Tomo, the fact you two are discussing things like mental health with your family is just amazing. With many of the problems we go through, sharing similar experiences with people who have experienced something similar is very important. I think mental health used to be quite taboo and many people don't want to admit it can happen to them or their kids, family. Learning to accept and find a way to deal with it is what actually helps people. Excellent insight on your own experiences regarding mental health and I envy you in a way to be able to discuss these topics in such positive manner. The effect of these conversations you're having shouldn't be understated, it's as good as therapy in many ways. And you inviting people to share their own stories makes it helpful to them as well. I wish the both of you the best, and thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing. Thank you so much! We are same as everyone. "Not Perfect at all!" It's not easy subject to talk about. But it's so important! Thanks again!
I have worked in mental health for 25 years. I’m happy that people with your level of influence are normalizing these discussions with their loved ones. I also started a band with several coworkers and we play for staff and patients a few times a year bc music has helped me so much and I want to share that with others. Thank you!
As an artist I've dealt with anxiety, depression, fear. In my 30s I was dealing with anger and anxiety as a parent, and I was not ok with how it affected my kids. I decided to get help through Psychologists, Anger management and anxiety classes. It truly helps. Thank you Tomo and Sammi for sharing
Thanks for sharing. I had a little with my father. Then I understood more about him. Was not his choice. So I forgive that feeling. Now I don't have any bad feeling toward him at all! I changed. Angry to something is not so good. I think more Mr. Bean! You can change your thought, concept anything! Be positive no matter what! You're welcome!
They have classes for this stuff? I’ve been struggling pretty bad lately. I’m a new father, and I don’t know where all these anxious and depressive feelings stem from. I just want to be happy again like I should be. It’s affected my guitar playing from the ground up. Plus my social life. I went to a physiologist but I haven’t started the med cause I don’t want to rely on it and I’m kind of fearful of it tbh lol.
@@linoalcaraz5407 Thanks for sharing. A lot of new responsibilities as a father and you are a good man so you feel that naturally. Don't worry! Talk with your friends about anything. Be prepared anything you need. Family is so important and being a father... not easy! Do exercises! You can do it!
A very gentle and a sweet conversation between two adults, father and daughter. Tomo-san you've raised a good human being. A work in progress, a job well done!
Your relationship with your daughter is absolutely beautiful Tomo. You can see how much you find comfort in each others company. You look at each other with love and make each other laugh. I truly hope this is what my daughters relationship with me is like when she's all grown up. To be a parent and a friend to them is phenomenal.
Tomo you have a great relationship with your daughter. She seems to be very grounded and smart. I love that you both have come through your own particular problems and can support each other. It’s a beautiful thing.
Thank you so much! I am so fortunate. Like everyone, we had many hard times, tough times... but kept going with many trials.. (a huge help from my wife! She did an amazing job throughout years!) She is doing really well. "Talk" "listen" "Conversation" so important.
great job Tomo your daughter seems like a refreshing breath of air compared to many young people. You just cannot hide the joy behind the smile. Best of luck Sammy
wish i had a dad with this kind of open, gentle nature growing up. dont think ive ever had a full conversation with my dad about anything beyond surface level in my 25 years. you are clearly a great father and teacher and your daughter is proof positive of that! good video.
Thank you Tomo and Sammi for sharing. Tomo, you are an incredible musician and teacher; and clearly an even better father. God bless you and your whole family.

I love the chemistry you have with your daughter, she sounds kind and smart. I'm new to this channel yet I wish I have stumbled upon it before. Most of guitarists on youtube only share lessons and covers. But seeing a wise guitarist who is transparent about his background is genuinely wholesome. I have only started to really learn guitar recently and I'm going through something hard in life. I'm really happed I found this.
Thank you so much! I mean... music, guitar, my family... equally so important for me. So I just want to share anything positive! So happy to hear that!
yes stick with tomo, he is the healthiest for your playing and your mind, others are good too but sometimes forget to talk about the really important things
Appreciate the emphasis on perfectionism. I struggled with that a lot and never realized how badly that ended up being for me in the long run. Its best looking at it as a learning experience as opposed to regretting the time spent trying to be perfect. Thanks for this Tomo
You're welcome! We both suffered from being perfectionist. I really had to change how I think about things. No need to be perfect! No regrets in my book! Thank you so much!
Even on a topic such as anxiety and depression, I could not stop smiling the entire video. I hope you know how much you help people Tomo, not only with learning the guitar but personal growth as well. There's a million people to learn guitar from on the internet but your channel brings genuine joy to so many people ❤️
Great conversation Tomo-san and Sammi. You're both so good to share this - it's such an important topic and also reassuring to know that others go through things like this and understand what it's like. I'm going to show my own daughter this conversation as there are many pertinent points that are so relevant to hear. Thank you again for sharing. Cheers.

Dear Mr. Fujita, dear Sammy, I like to think that it is most important, that we share with each other, what moves us, drives us, what touches us and how we think and feel about that. Because we live in a society, that we ourselves made so much about individual achievements and keeping stuff to ourselves, that we almost forget about being many and that we can support each other by opening up to one another. Thanks to you both, for sparking this great experience furthermore and showing that no one has to be alone and hide what goes on inside of them. "Don't worry, don't compare, don't expect to fast, be kind to yourself" has so much potential and shows that by applying to your own way of living. At least in my experience. And because of the way you, Mr. Fujita, teach, what and how you talk about things, I carry you and your (guitar) wisdom inside of me and think quite a lot about it during my day. I also think, that this life is about healing, knowing yourself and of course having fun along the way. And by doing it through guitar, music, or dance helps reaching a lot of fellow human beings. So thanks once again to you two, for taking this step, showing and sharing yourselves so openly. You are great human beings. ✨️🙏✨️✌️😘👍✨️🙏✨️
Thanks for sharing. Communication is very important. Listen each others. A lot of listening & encouragement without suggesting what to do. Idea is to give more positive feeling. You're very welcome. Wisdom words are so important for me and all my students. Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing Tomo and Sammi! One thing that caught my ear was Tomo talking about the importance of rest and healthy eating. I told my daughter a similar "secret" to fitting in/doing well at school. I said it's boring, but it's called "the basics": * Get 8 hours of sleep per night. * Eat well (low starch, low sugar). * Exercise 3x/wk. If you have that basic foundation of physical and mental health, then the social stuff will be much easier. (Life may not always be easy, but you can make it easier to deal with if you proactively take care of yourself.)
Wow,,,,,I am so glad I came upon your channel,,,,,for you to take your time and your daughters time to discuss such personal issues is amazing.! You are such a Good Good Soul Tomo,,,,thank you so much for all you provide.!!
Thank you Tomo and Sammi! My wife and I spent most of my sons high school years trying to help him live day to day, even just going to school. He had a small relapse in college years but he's come through the other side. There's way more anxiety in the world than most people realize. Great music coupled with great life experience sharing! Thank you both!
You are wonderful people. I think it is important in this world to realise that having anxiety is kind of inevitable, and definitely not something to be ashamed of. I would be slightly suspicious of someone who was never anxious or depressed in this world. Lots of love to you.
When I was young, mental health was never discussed, it was almost taboo to talk about. It is great that these things can be openly discussed more openly now. I often feel that there are too many bad things happening in the world now that are contributing to the problem. It is difficult to deal with when it is relentless. As lame as it might sound, I find doing relaxing things like jigsaw puzzles, building lego models, playing guitar is incredibly relaxing and theraputic. It relaxes the mind. Thank you both for a great discussion. Sammi is lucky to have such a positive role model for a father!
Thank you for sharing. I think somehow people used to picture about mental health = bad. Very important topic to understand this slowly. That's great one to relax. Even old video games are extortion from those. Thanks so much!
Thank you Tomo and Sammi for sharing your thoughts and experiences on this topic. 🙏 I think so much of people’s anxiety comes from trying to control everything in his/her life. Tomo, your point about being kind to yourself is so valuable…and Sammi I think you are dead right about perfectionism. I tell my tennis students that perfectionism is a road, not a destination. It’s alright to have high standards and expectations (if we prepare properly), but being perfect is not the goal….the growth from the journey is the reward. I use the word “manage” emotion/anxiety rather than “control” because I think it is more about accepting what is happening in the present. Great topic and thank you both so much. With humility 🙏🙏
You're welcome! Yes! I was "perfectionist" I had to change it and slow down! Well said! People can mix up "journey' & "destination" Thank you so much! Don’t worry Don’t compare Don’t expect too fast Be kind to yourself tomofujitamusic.creator-spring.com/
It’s so great that you share and talk about this with us. Thanks to Sammy (very very special guest) for sharing a young person’s experiences too. My youngest is in middle school now, so Sammy’s perspective and experience from that time is super interesting for me. Thanks again.
As someone who has infrequent panic attacks I can say how horrible they feel! Sometimes they feel like they will never stop! I hate it! Thanks for sharing! Sammi sounds like a lovely child!
this is very wholesome. I too also have anxiety disorders, I have been working with my therapist for 10 years now. What i also learned is that we have to be patient and not too hard on ourselves like what Tomo has said
Thanks so much! Thanks for sharing. Yes! That's why guitar is really helping me. Guitar can make be so patient and gives me confidence & joy. I am so thankful.
Tomo and Sammi, thank you for your courage and honesty in sharing your experiences. It's so important to shed light on our struggles and let people know they are not alone or unique in what they may be experiencing. I had a panic attack about 30 years ago as I was finishing grad school and facing the prospect of looking for a job and figuring out my future (I still haven't done that yet...). Back then, I had no idea what I was experiencing and no one talked about them. I also suffered from severe occasional headaches (still do) that are in part due to my perfectionist tendencies. I've found that talking to others-whether it's a therapist, a friend over dinner, or a group of people with a common interest such as a hobby-can really help. It seems like people are more willing to share how they are feeling nowadays and some of the stigmas are going away. I also found that being mindful has helped. I try to remind myself of one thing I learned in a class: Most of us spend too much time rehashing the past and rehearsing the future. We don't take time to experience and enjoy the present. The first time I heard Guitar Wisdom-Don't worry, Don't compare, Don't expect too fast, and Be kind to yourself, it resonated with me and I realized it is very similar to what I learned in that mindfulness stress-reduction class.
You're welcome! So happy to hear that! Thanks for sharing. Being a perfectionist is not worth it! Thank you so much! Guitar Wisdom can help you to calm down. Foundation can give you confidence and balance.
Thank you very much for sharing your experiences and thoughts on this important and difficult topic. You are both brightly shining lights in an ever darkening world!!!
Beautiful conversation. The more we share the vulnerable parts of ourselves, the more we accept ourselves, and the more we give others permission to accept themselves.
This makes me so happy! I struggle with the same thing tomo! You’re such a talented musician and teacher. However, seeing what a good father you are melts my heart❤️ she’s so beautiful inside and out I can tell! Im sure you’re a proud papa. I really enjoyed this video 😀
Thanks again for talking about this, Tomo. I have been dealing with this for a couple years now, so it’s really nice to know others understand what’s it’s like. It was awesome seeing you with your daughter too, you should keep bringing her on!
Master Tomo...What a beautiful and inspiration session with you and your daughter Sammi. It is un-common, in today's (American) culture and hectic world to see such a wonderful bond and relationship with your family. I have recently been inspired by your guitar teachings and now can see how you carry your teaching style into real-life environment. So to see you both sharing, in such a casual, yet heart-felt way is a pleasure. As a dad myself of 2 adult daughters, I too have close heart-to-heart chats with them when I can. Your videos on teaching her to play guitar are also fun and special. I don't have anxiety issues but certainly appreciate and relate to the discussion and warmth you both share and project.
You are both so incredible for sharing your experience with anxiety and depression! This is the exact kind of content that helps reduce the negative stigma around mental health issues and encourages more folks to chat about it. Thanks for doing what you do!
I love this. You know Tomo, aside from being an amazing musician and teacher/mentor, you are even more importantly the type of father that any child would be lucky to have. Also probably just an amazing person to know in general. I can almost see myself sitting at a dinner table like this together with you and just listen to all the knowledge and experience that you have to share, the same way Sammi does with you. This made me smile for so many reasons because I also suffer from severe anxiety and panic attacks for the last 8 years. A few times my brother had to carry me outside of the house into the car to take me to the hospital in times where it became so bad. If it spirals out of control my body could shake and shiver and you can even mistake it for a heart attack sometimes which is scary. Over the years i've thankfully learned how to cope with it a bit better by being more aware to relax, stay calm and breathe when it comes around (a cold rag on the head also seems to always help a lot because it sort of shocks your body a bit and can help snap you out of the attack), but sometimes when it comes hard it is extremely difficult to endure even still and not everyone understands. It's nice to know that we're not alone. Thank you for doing this video and sharing your story, you are an inspiration. God bless. P.S. I've also learned so much from you over the years of my guitar journey so thank you for that as well 🙏 Ricky~
This gives me so much hope, and I won't lose faith that we will as a society no longer distinguish "mental health" from "health" -- it will all be part of the approach and fewer and fewer people will be left behind. Thank you!
Tomo and Sammi, you are so brave. Thank you so much for this conversation. In February 2019, I almost lost one of my 5 children to depression through suicide. I confess that I believed anxiety, depression, ADHD, and PTSD, were more like...I don't know, excuses. Excuses for bad parenting, laziness, or in any case, something you could change if you really wanted to. In the following few years, through lots of education, therapy, research, and interpersonal communication, I have come to understand the truth about mental health. These are actual neurological conditions; they have a biological component like any other illness/disease. No one with mental illness should be blamed, judged, or treated differently from someone with diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, etc. Because of the courage of people like you and your daughter, finally, this stigma is starting to crack, so thank you again. Yet another example of why you are the best teacher, guitar or otherwise, on UA-cam right now! Fellow subscribers and GW students, if you ever feel down or worse, like life is no longer worth living, please know that your brain is lying to you; don't believe everything you think. Talk to someone! If you have no one, post somewhere, and we (the community) will talk with you. You are the only "You" there is, and we need you to stick around.
Thank you for sharing. Thank you so much. We're happy to make these videos if our videos are helpful to others. I think awareness on this subject is so important. You're so correct! I wish more people will follow positive thoughts than wrong imagination. Thank you so much for subscribing my Guitar Wisdom too!
Same here, as a young man I didn't have any information about my anxiety issues. First I thought I had a heart attack, then after more instances possibly "crazy". Thankfully we now have access to knowledge and resources.
Thank you Tomo and Sammi !... I did yoga, reiki, sport: running, meditation... now I meditate, I have healthy habits, and I´m taking sessions with a psychologist, to do therapy. What I´m realizing through all this years, is, this is a structural mind construction we have, so, all we can do is to maintain a healthy life, and be mindful, so we can aticipate and calm our mind, learning to live with it, and to think positive about it.
Thank you! Very very important topic. I know it first hand. To really understand it, is a gate to development. And can I just say: Seing a proud Father with his beautiful daughter… It’s so touching.
Thanks for you and your daughters thoughts on this topic. It's beautiful to see you and her express your feelings. I think this video can really help people. So nice that you have an open and heart felt relationship with her. Priceless. You two made my day😄
When I experience anxiety attacks, the one thing that keeps me hooked in those moments is how the illness is keeping me from progressing in my life. Seeing someone I admire, and who has achieved some of the things I want to, makes me feel way more confident there will be a time in my life that my anxiety doesn't have so much control over me. This video is something I can remind myself of the next time my anxiety starts to flare up. Thank you both so much for doing this
Thanks for sharing. It's hard but its better not over thinking this. To me, confidence is not there until plant them there! That's why I prepare things and practice my guitar! You're welcome! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your experiences. Your love for each other and strong relationship is a beautiful thing to see. May God bless you both and your family🙏🏻
I love these people! Such a positive attitude and so kind and caring, the world can learn a lot from you two, and does. Thanks for sharing your stories of anxiety, I appreciate them as I have very bad social anxiety.
I love this discussion! I think it’s so great you have each other to grow through this, then to share more broadly. My wife (a real therapist helping people with anxiety) reminds me regularly to be kind to myself and that we’re all ‘bozos on the bus’. Many artistic-minded folks are anxious these days, because we tend to be sensitive to alterations, dynamics, and conflicts. Boy, there’s lots of that lately!
So happy to hear that! Thanks for sharing. These days... too much information too fast! We need more limitation on those. Don’t worry Don’t compare Don’t expect too fast Be kind to yourself tomofujitamusic.creator-spring.com/
Great contribution just stumbled over it by occasion. Thanks to you and especially to your daughter (it's great that she took part, compliments very sympathic). You have discussed this topic in a very positive and, above all, encouraging way. "Think positive, there is always a way out, even if we don't find it right away" ;)
I’m enjoying your videos on mental health, Tomo! So many musicians go through stuff like that (myself included) so I’m sure many can relate. Thank you for sharing that side of your story with us!
Thank you Tomo and your kind daughter for your bravery and generosity to breech this difficult subject. Obviously as your community has certainly responded to your first video I'm sure many will also relate here as I have. I noticed iv been practicing more lately which may be in response but I'm afraid to look a gift horse in the mouth and just play. I also loved your recent new Gibson acoustic guitar video and your practice amp video very much as well . Blessings to you both

If you have that basic foundation of physical and mental health, then the social stuff will be much easier. (Life may not always be easy, but you can make it easier to deal with if you proactively take care of yourself.)
You're welcome! Yes! Thanks for reviewing! Very important!
Basics, foundation is the power of success! (even a little thing!)
Thank you!
Tomo , thank you for this message , musicians need this info . ✌️🙏👍
You're welcome! Thank you!
Very good conversation! You have done a great job in raising your daughter! The apple didn’t fall care from the tree!👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you so much!
What a fantastic father and daughter!! You and your daughter have a great relationship...i see much kindness with you two. Thank You for your insight
Thanks so much! You're very welcome.
Wow,,,,,I am so glad I came upon your channel,,,,,for you to take your time and your daughters time to discuss such personal issues is amazing.! You are such a Good Good Soul Tomo,,,,thank you so much for all you provide.!!
Thank you so much! So happy to hear that! My pleasure!
Thank you for sharing! It's really hard to go through this. Good job guys! Music, guitar is my medicine. You're welcome!
Hearing you for me, it’s like having a conversation with a best friend!
Thanks very much for sharing all these thoughts with us!
So happy to hear that! Thank you so much!
You are wonderful people. I think it is important in this world to realise that having anxiety is kind of inevitable, and definitely not something to be ashamed of. I would be slightly suspicious of someone who was never anxious or depressed in this world. Lots of love to you.
Thanks so much! Thank you for sharing.
Tomo is an absolutely amazing person
His daughter seems so as well
Thank you so much!
Thank you Tomo and Sammi for sharing your thoughts and experiences on this topic. 🙏
I think so much of people’s anxiety comes from trying to control everything in his/her life.

It’s so great that you share and talk about this with us. Thanks to Sammy (very very special guest) for sharing a young person’s experiences too. My youngest is in middle school now, so Sammy’s perspective and experience from that time is super interesting for me. Thanks again.
So happy to hear that! Thanks for sharing. Thank you!
So grateful for this video.
You're very welcome!
Great to give examples of being a great teacher and father at the same time. Missing in many families today! Thank you both!
Thank you so much! You're welcome!
You two have a wonderful dynamic.
Thanks so much!
As someone who has infrequent panic attacks I can say how horrible they feel! Sometimes they feel like they will never stop! I hate it! Thanks for sharing! Sammi sounds like a lovely child!
Thanks for sharing. Thank you!
Glad to hear all of this. We're not alone!
Yes! Thank you so much!

Thank you so much!
She’s so beautiful and it’s lovely to see the two of you together. Love to you both.
Thank you so much!
this is very wholesome.
I should call you sensei. you are wise and I enjoy learning from you.
Thank you so much!
Thanks so much guys. Awareness of breath and good diet help but the main ingredient is love & laughter...
You're welcome! Yes, yes! That's why I always making my family more laughs!
I appreciate you for sharing, Tomo and family!
You're very welcome!

Beautiful conversation. The more we share the vulnerable parts of ourselves, the more we accept ourselves, and the more we give others permission to accept themselves.
Thank you so much! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Tomo. I have them quite often, I don't tell anybody. Your Daughter is a treasure!
You're welcome. Thank you for sharing. Thank you!
This makes me so happy! I struggle with the same thing tomo! You’re such a talented musician and teacher. However, seeing what a good father you are melts my heart❤️ she’s so beautiful inside and out I can tell! Im sure you’re a proud papa. I really enjoyed this video 😀
Thank you so much! So happy to hear that! Thank you for sharing!

Thanks again for talking about this, Tomo. I have been dealing with this for a couple years now, so it’s really nice to know others understand what’s it’s like. It was awesome seeing you with your daughter too, you should keep bringing her on!

just amazing tomo. amazing in every term. and you got an amazing daughter obviously! not only a genius guitarplayer, also a genius father
Thank you so much! I am so fortunate!
Thanks for sharing! Thank you so much! My family is everything!
You are making a positive impression on me, not only musically but as a beautiful person. Thank you
So great to hear that! Thanks for sharing! Thank you so much!
💗💗💗Thank You for sharing. My daughter lives with me 80% of the year and there are days that are very hard for her- This is so helpful.
You're welcome! Thanks for sharing. We all have ups & downs. Please listen her more and comfort her.
One of your finest videos. Thank you for sharing! Quality time spent with your daughter or son is soul food. Wishing all the best to you both.
Thank you so much! You're welcome!
It’s one kind of meditation when you really focus. Thank you for sharing this. I’m in the hard time rightnow, and it helps me ❤️
You're welcome! Hope you can find your peace. I will make more videos like this. Thank you!
You are both so incredible for sharing your experience with anxiety and depression! This is the exact kind of content that helps reduce the negative stigma around mental health issues and encourages more folks to chat about it. Thanks for doing what you do!
Thank you so much! So happy to hear that! Hope more people pay attention on positive side. You're welcome!
What a wonderful man, made my night so much better. thank you!
Thank you so much!
God bless. P.S. I've also learned so much from you over the years of my guitar journey so thank you for that as well 🙏
Ricky~
Thanks so much! Thank you for sharing. Very scary feeling but you can control it. You're very welcome!
you have a very beautiful daughter. wish you both all the best
Thank you so much!
This gives me so much hope, and I won't lose faith that we will as a society no longer distinguish "mental health" from "health" -- it will all be part of the approach and fewer and fewer people will be left behind. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. Please have your hopes & dreams! Thank you! You're welcome!
Thank you for sharing your wisdom as always, Tomo!
You're welcome! Thank you so much!
Wow! a true definition of a teacher...💯
Thanks so much!
So glad to see a positive and open dialogue about this subject! Great work!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much!
Same here, as a young man I didn't have any information about my anxiety issues. First I thought I had a heart attack, then after more instances possibly "crazy". Thankfully we now have access to knowledge and resources.
Thank you for sharing! Same thought! Thank you so much!
You're welcome! Good job! Thanks for sharing. I am so calm right now!

Tomo-San, thank you for your sharing.
You're welcome! Thanks so much!
Thank you!
Wow!! Excellent conversation!! Thanks guys!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing your experiences. Your love for each other and strong relationship is a beautiful thing to see. May God bless you both and your family🙏🏻
You're welcome! Thank you so much! I am so thankful!
I love these people! Such a positive attitude and so kind and caring, the world can learn a lot from you two, and does. Thanks for sharing your stories of anxiety, I appreciate them as I have very bad social anxiety.
Thank you so much! Thanks for sharing.

Great contribution just stumbled over it by occasion. Thanks to you and especially to your daughter (it's great that she took part, compliments very sympathic). You have discussed this topic in a very positive and, above all, encouraging way. "Think positive, there is always a way out, even if we don't find it right away" ;)
Glad you enjoyed it! You're very welcome! Thank you so much!
Your genuine content is refreshing. Thanks for sharing a part of you and your life with us.

I’m enjoying your videos on mental health, Tomo! So many musicians go through stuff like that (myself included) so I’m sure many can relate.
Thank you for sharing that side of your story with us!
So happy to hear that! Thanks for sharing. True! You're welcome!
