Awesome reaction as always Mike! 😎👍 The Honest Trailers video was good, but the Pitch Meeting was one of the best ones yet in my opinion, so many really funny 😆 parts, so it's the best for me. About the movies, I don't like them, I don't hate them, and even tho I can appreciate a more slow paced philosophical movie like Prometheus, I personally like Covenant more, cause it feels more like an Alien movie to me, but let's be honest here, it's not even close to the original. For me personally, the closest thing to the original Alien movie, is Alien Isolation, an awesome videogame released in 2014 if I remember correctly, witch follows the story of Amanda Ripley, Ellen Ripley's daughter. In that game, the developers nailed everything in my opinion, the ship, the lightning, the atmosphere, the story, the characters, the gameplay, the Alien, which has an awesome AI, everything. If you haven't played it yet Mike, I highly recommend it. 😉👍
You should where I live I'm only 45 minutes from the mountains and only 2 hours away from the ocean. We have great cities and wonderful nature. You can be in a big city than drive 30 minutes and explore a old gold mind. They also do a lot of filming in Wilmington, NC which is on the east cost. Beautiful state. With many things to do and enjoy.
They're writing Alien movies using formula pieces connected to the excellent original. In the original the when a character did something foolish or unsafe it was either typically human or intentional. Kane was too curious, exploring was part of his personality and he just wasn't a cautious as he should have been. Explorers must take chances at times, it's part of it. At that point no one had encountered anything like a spring loaded face hugger egg, getting closer look was something most would do. Ash's opening the hatch was intentional. Dallas was a bit lackadaisical from the start, a weary company man who did not want to be bothered with details. It was Ripley's personality traits of following the rules and questioning everything that allowed him to to set back and only step in when absolutely necessary. A typical competent boss who relaxes and let a competent under staff handle most things. His edge as and he overruled her at the most crucial time. Yet he took responsibility and insisted he be the one to face the dangerous alien. A glimpse of the person he probably once was before weariness took over. The characters were flawed but real, their interactions so typically human and normal they still stand out as some of best character writing/acting in scifi history. The new movies seem to try to bring that in, but can't capture the realism. It's more about using popular films and characters to gain attention for subtle messages of all kinds and subtext. Creativity is poured into writing a story around what someone wants to say or plant rather than writing a good story. Many are fields to be plowed for social seeds more than landscapes for entertainment. Both PM and HT did a great job, too good to chose this time. Actually, with those two it can be like apples and oranges, they too different to compare but both are sweet.
Yeah, plot is important, but I feel a lot of writers focus so much on story, they're not creating relatable characters. That's so important, especially in sci-fi.
He better change the origins of the biomechanical xenos back to the engineer's, making David the creator freaking ruins the whole alien lore and universe 😢
I love the pitch meeting where the pg says its a omage and the sg constantly mispronounces it as mirage i forget exactly which one it is but still pretty funny.
Personally, I've never seen the alien movies and when I watched Prometheus, I didn't even know it had anything to do with those movies. For me Prometheus was tackling some big questions and I was very intrigued to see the answers they would give to those questions. I was immensely disappointed to discover the director wouldn't follow through with the story because fans of alien just wanted to see another movie where alien kills a bunch of people, the end. Instead of getting to learn who are the engineers and why they created humans, we just got this movie that just disappoints everyone.
Yeah, it raised some interesting questions, but in the end, it didn't need to be made. I had no need to know where the xenomorphs came from. The mystery was always what made them more menacing.
During the honest trailer I was thinking to myself the Alien series should have stopped at 2, like the Terminator series, and then they said it. I must have psychotic powers.
I totally forgot Jussie Smollett was in this. I gotta go back and watch it again. Honest Trailers was right. Danny McBride is the only actor I remember from this. I have a feeling that the Pitch Meeting is going to be more entertaining than the movie.

Both were funny and fun, but PM takes this one. I don't know how Ryan George is consistently very funny with his material, even as it is the same or similar material to HT! But he is, especailly more recently. The looks Producer guy gives, especially with "you blow, I'll do the fingering!" And then asking if all the characters have brain damage... super funny! I did not watch this movie... I have no desire to watch it. I watched Prometheus, and it broke me for the series, sadly. Who knows... maybe one day, I will watch the movie after/before the Aliens series with Sigourney Weaver (hologram, or CGI maybe?) In the meantime, keep these videos coming, please! They are great fun!! Looking forward to the next one!
Oh man, I agree that I enjoyed this movie a lot more than Prometheus but Pitch Meeting constantly referencing Alien original was hilarious with the short haired girl etc. I actually laughed quite a bit during this.
Do you think Ridley Scott saw that one episode of star trek tng and thought the thing that made it great was Patrick Stewart playing the penny whistle?

I like Prometheus way more than this. This movie becomes a simple monster movie. Prometheus set up a lot of cool storylines and lore . But this movie shits on it. Imagine a movie where David and Shaw go to the engineers home world and interacts with them.
"Why are critical plot scenes on UA-cam, but not in the movie!" Honest trailers had some really funny observations, but I agree that Pitch Meetings was funny throughout. Why go see the movie, save yourself 10 bucks and just watch Pitch Meeting, Honest Trailers and maybe throw in The Critical Drinker and you will have a lot more fun than what any of these movies will provide
So we had a "...hard Sci-Fi..." movie (realistic technology, no lightsabers or transporters and such) with the following elements: The best visuals available for the technology of the time... A rogue artificial intelligence that alternated between semi-creepy to flat-out murderous, for reasons that weren't entirely apparent in the movie... Mostly-forgettable human characters, or, perhaps more accurately, underdeveloped human characters... A plot which required obviously-bad decisions of the human characters, at critical times, to proceed, including but not limited to the entering of a potentially-hostile environment without vital protective equipment... Uneven pacing, which was, at times, painfully slow... A back story involving an extra-terrestrial species that created modern humanity... Lots of wanky, post-graduate, pseudo-philosophy, that (admittedly) added somewhat to the story, but at the cost of audience comprehension... And, most of all, a movie that withheld vital details from its own audience, details that, when revealed to the audience by outside sources, clarified almost everything and yielded a very good, very engrossing story (eg. homework for the audience)... I've just described "...2001: A Space Odyssey..." and, since 1968, Stanley Kubrick has been getting praise - in my mind, unwarranted praise - for having made "...a classic..." which has been studied in film schools, philosophy courses, etc. As frustrating as "...Prometheus..." and "...Alien Covenant..." were and are, can you really blame Ridley Scott for his artistic decisions? He had plenty of reason to believe that he'd be praised for making another classic.
I actually liked Prometheus and thought it was great at expanding the universe. Covenant was disappointing in that they kind of pulled an Alien 3 and just undid most of the previous film... I don’t hate the android arc as much as everyone else though and I love simple flutes as they do feel like an echo of the earliest days of our sentience. Ultimately, I want them to carry on with the story and just have more respect for the dang viewers... don’t be killing main characters in between films and stop making everyone such a dang dumbass. This notion that it’s necessary to advance the plot is BS; the crews in the first two films weren’t outrageously stupid and were simply very reasonably overpowered.
I hated this movie and how they just ignored every previous mythos of xenomorphs along with all the dumb forgettable characters characters. Really bummed Blompkamp’s movie never came to be.
