Microwave radiation doesn't induce currents in metal, let alone a high enough current to make a loop antenna (which is outside the tv and far away from the magnetron) glow red. He probably had a high current transformer attached to it.

Microwaves are non-ionising, meaning they don't cause cancer. A microwave uses just that, microwaves, which COULD boil you to death, but you'd feel significantly hot and would probably remove yourself from the source of microwaves. In fact, most microwaves run at the same frequency (2.4 GHz) as your average everyday wireless router, and you don't see everyone tom dick and harry with a router dying of cancer, now do you?
He is actually a certified electrician, and does these things only because he knows how to do so safely. An unqualified person should never attempt any of the things he does in these videos as they may get burned/nuked/electrocuted/anything else which can result in serious or fatal injuries. Just so you know.
I'm no chemist, but should the space being used be well ventilated? The fumes beginning at 3:50 can't be good for you. Don't have to be worried about radiation though. The shields in the computer are designed to keep all PC-generated electromagnetic radiation inside the computer case. It also keeps in the ones generated by the microwave oven as they are piped in by a waveguide. Beside microwaves are not ionizing radiation so our host won't be turned into the hulk any time soon.
ComfortElectrics The offer is appreciated. I am just trying to add a little safety and sanity to an otherwise crazy world. I'll have one tonight in honor of this post. Cheers!!!
Dude. You screw around with electronics sooo much, that you probably have your own homebuilt security system with magnetrons and high volt flyback drivers.
Not wise to miss out on bedroom health and safety. You forget to read bedroom Heath and safety spec sheet for the tv microwaving. You may have received radiation. Alway remember to take door off of microwave and use as a shield whilst entering experimental zone.
I think you may be producing gamma rays not microwaves, if you took the only the magnetron out of the oven. A microwave is a gamma ray with a shortened wave length to 1cm. The magnetron makes gamma rays then shines them onto another device, like a spinning aluminum disk which shortens the wavelength to a microwave.
Magnetrons don't produce gamma rays. Moreover, microwaves have a *much longer* wavelength than gamma rays, not the other way around. I have no idea where you got such information...
Did the microwaves make that antenna glow!? Didn't know they could do that. It just seems like photon wired it externally for the effect, as the way he says to watch it seems a bit of a giveaway. I don't know much about microwave radiation though.
it is because in a microwave you have a high concentration of waves and the metal acts as a earth so it causes a discharge (the bright light in a spark) but as this is in open air and with no metal to earth a discharge, it slowly warms to a nice glow hope this helps.
Dangers with Beryllium aside, what about overclocking the magnetron? Seen it explode light bulbs at 6-7 feet under normal house current. And isn't normal worse than boring?
Hard to say but I assume like what happens when metal is put into a microwave oven compared to plastic, glass, etc the effects, mainly from stainless are not so pretty, also I'm pritty sure microwaves are low frequency/thermal radiation
