That's actually literally the case; if you look at an A-10 on the ground, the gun is centered, but the nose gear is off-center, because it wasn't considered as important.
you mean its the king of team kill
Such a shame that the gun is useless for close air support.
How do we make this gun more lethal? Attach a plane to it.
@@Ma_Zhongying its not useless, just extrememely bad xD

@@1neAdam12 they dont need to be fast, theyre designed to hit targets on the ground.
“What kinda plane is that on your gun?”
Brrrrrrrrtttttt
I mean true statement, the plane was built around the gun
Fun fact, the USSR made a plane that fired 5,000 rounds per minute (Mig-27 Modification) compared to the A-10s 3,900 rpm but was too powerful to actually use effectively
@Аркаша Чецкая Probably wasn't functional as well.
To powerful sounds like USSR just saying it's to powerful as excuse for it didn't work lol 😅😂😂
@@Arkasha-Z the aircraft wasnt too powerful to be used effectively, they retrofitted a big ass gun onto an aircraft that wasnt designed to take the recoil of a gun that big. Thats why they kept ripping themselves apart when they fired. The A-10 was designed specifically for the GAU-8 Avenger, hence why it actually works.
We called them “ugly angels”
Literally saved our asses
That's the first. They used to build them at Republic Aviation on Long Island I grew up there and used to see them fly all the time the A-10 Thunderbolt 2 before that they built the original Thunderbolt the P-47, which fought in World War II. When I entered the US Air Force in 1982 I became an aerial refueling operator also known as a boomer on a KC 135 stratotanker station at Plattsburgh Air Force Base are you still refuel FB 111 aircraft and on TDY and combat deployment refueled many many a10s some called it the warthog but everyone I knew in the service never referred to it as that everyone I knew in the service never used that term we just called it the Thunderbolt the guys on the ground called at the warthog I think

Most people think it's closest competitor, the SU-25 Frogfoot, looks better, or less ugly. Every pilot that flew both states that the SU is a much easier and nicer plane to fly. Faster, more manoeuvrable. Yet, every soldier would rather have the A-10 as ground support, and every pilot would rather fly the A-10 when under heavy enemy fire.
I was in the 3rd Armored in the late 70's and remember seeing these flying around some training area probably 1979 or '80. We were a bit in awe of this 'new plane'.

Let's not forget the A-10 used depleted uranium rounds in its 30mm gun until 2010 and today, deny claims they still do. Best reason to collect casings there.
As a kid living in Springfield, MO. we were alerted by local news that a crashed A-10, from Whiteman AFB, spread these depleted uranium rounds for ten square miles (in the woods) and to report any findings to police immediately and not to touch them. I still have three.
Depleted uranium isn't radioactive, but of course it might have a bit of cancer juice left in it
love how they tell you to your face they're DEPLETED uranium but then tell you not to touch them, trying to imply to you that they would be somehow dangerous to touch, trying to scare you into not touching them lol
@@jhanks2012 it's depleted uranium however it's still a heavy metal and is toxic. Also, it's slightly radioactive.
@@jhanks2012because they're autocannon rounds not bullets. They're basically baby artillery rounds... ya know... fucking explosive.

Even crazier is That these rounds will pierce armor better than full on tank rounds did during the first part of ww2
The A10 is like "well I want to kill things, not litter. Only douches litter."

@@fidjeenjanrjsnsfh that gun was purpose built to kill tanks. It's an anti-armor (tanks, armored cars, etc.) gun. This is enough to penetrate most all modern armored vehicles aside from the most protected portions of MBTs. But even the most heavily armored leopards, Abrams, T-72s etc still have vulnerable portions where the GAU-8 can theoretically disable them.
