    You are still creating outstanding content!!
    Thank you!
    Everyone has their own unique reactions to food which maybe different from others.
    Have fun with your journey to a new life! I'm executing my fifth year of my new reality, and I m constantly adjusting as my body evolves.
    You are so right about not being afraid of loose - as it's not an issue anymore for me. So many people think I have medical procedures done - but nah! Just fun in the sun at 60 years old.

    I LOVE your videos/podcasts. I’m so glad that you aren’t pushing weight loss drugs and you encourage real foods! As a retired RN I understand the confusion about what to eat. Very few doctors will give you this information because they are not educated on nutrition. I have gained 30 pounds with Hashimoto disease. I am going to start trying this

    Good morning. This video is chocked full of info. Thanks for that. Brain exercises: I do lots of word puzzles. I teach both nursing courses (online and in the classroom) and teach Bible studies. Keeping math skills sharp, I am the treasurer of my property owners association. I also LOVE to research (thus a forever learner). Physical: A walking buddy and I walk a couple of miles several times per week. My maintenance diet is full of the "usual" foods per PhD training.
    Things to work on: Where I fall down (and this is really an exercise for me here on the comments) is in mindset, staying up so late that I get hungry for a nighttime snack (I was successful last night in not giving in to the demands of my stomach 👏🙄), not lifting weights enough, and lacking enough water during the day. Since reaching NEARLY goal weight (within 8 pounds), I have gained back about 12 pouds which I feel both in the belly and my hips/thighs. Getting this back off has been and is a challenge, but I'm not giving up.
    On another note, the "widow maker" heart attack occurs in the "LAD" (left anterior descending artery). It runs across the front of the heart and supplies oxygen to the major muscle of the heart. The occlusion (if almost or 100%) causes a sudden stop of the beating of the heart, and there is little to no warning, thus the term widow maker.
    Thank you for all you do. You and your coaches are my lifesavers in graceful aging. I tell people because of this program, I no longer feel in my 90s but rather in my 30s!! (I'm 76!)

      Thank you for watching and sharing that information! I recommend watching my video with Dr. Forbes Riley which looks at the importance of mindset in overcoming obstacles: ua-cam.com/video/mtwS4Y4Mieg/v-deo.html Maintenance can sometimes be the most difficult part of the journey but at PHD we would love to further support you with your struggles during maintenance. Feel free to give us a call at 864.644.1900

      @@drashleylucas I did see that video and need to watch it again. Actually, tomorrow, I'm meeting with one of the Greenville coaches, and she is going to enter me into the online Alumni group. I'm excited about that, and feel it will give me some momentum as well as ongoing accountability! :)

    I love sauerkraut for a fermented source, but I have borderline high blood pressure. If you rinsed the sauerkraut, would it take away fermentation? Thanks Dr. Ashley.

    • @drashleylucas
      @drashleylucas  2 місяці тому

      Sauerkraut is fermented cabbage, at the point of its fermentation phase its biological makeup has changed so there is no way to reverse fermentation. Raw cooked cabbage with vinegar would be a good option instead if you are wanting to avoid fermented products.

    A single cup of cooked lentils holds between 20-28g of protein, depending on the variety eaten. Not like cake!

    • @drashleylucas
      @drashleylucas  4 місяці тому +5

      Hi! I don't recall that I compared beans to cake. My point is that beans are much more dense in carbs than they are protein. For example 18 grams of protein found in 1 cup of lentils (average amount of protein we find in lentils for a cup) is 230 calories with 40 grams of carbs. 18 grams of protein found in chicken breast is equal to 72 calories and no carbs. Lentils are definitely not like cake, I agree!

      That type of protein isn't absorbed as well as animal protein.

      She was talking about baked beans.... she's not wrong. They have a load of carbs and sugar, plus plenty of fat if they are tasty.

    If one has kidney problems that has trouble taking care of protein what can be done about that, since I assume your program is high in protein?

    • @drashleylucas
      @drashleylucas  4 місяці тому

      Hi! It's not a high protein diet actually. Also the link between kidney problems and dietary protein isn't as clear cut as we thought...

      @drashleylucas Thank you for answering. I have stage 3a CKD that just came about in the last 2-3 years, but I just found out a few months ago, so I don't know what to do about protein. I wouldn't think I could do .8-1./lb protein because that would put it up near 190 grams, could I? I really appreciate your answering.

    Not sure who to believe anymore, eat meat protein or eat plant protein.., I cured my high cholesterol level and lost 30 lbs in 8 months following a vegan diet. Yes I still have menapausal belly fat and I intermit fast 16 - 18 hours.

    • @drashleylucas
      @drashleylucas  4 місяці тому +2

      It's tough- lots of different theories out there for sure. I'm glad you're feeling well! You could do an experiment and add some meat back in, drop the grains or at least reduce them, and see how you feel! No matter the diet, make sure you're getting adequate protein.

  • @beckyfrechette4439

    You say cheese is not a protein source, why not? What about cottage cheese? That’s extremely high in protein.

    • @drashleylucas
      @drashleylucas  4 місяці тому +6

      Great question! Cheese and cottage cheese are quite different in macros. Cheese is primarily a fat source. Not bad at all, just doesn't provide much protein for the amount of calories. Cottage cheese is the opposite with much more protein (twice the amount) for the same amount of calories. Does this help?
