This is an enormously helpful video. (I still cannot comment on your chain tensioiner video for some reason). The polyax nipple suggetion seems to have solved my problems with spoke breakage.
Fantastic. This is a project that appeals to me. I have two other bikes with Rohloff hubs one with chain the other with Gates belt drive, but not might Brompton (M6L), yet. I see that Kinetics in Glasgow now offer a Brommieloff with Gates belt drive which is a super attractive set up. Your videos will no doubt become a blue print for installing the Rohloff hub in a Brompton. Incidentally would it be possible to obtain a NON DRILLED Brompton wheel rim and have it angle drilled with 32 holes? Maybe by the same manfacturer that drills the 28H or do you think Brompton would have some agreement with them so that this does not happen to protect their product and intellectual property? Just a thought. Maybe another company in China or Taiwan would be willing to have a go at doing this on an undrilled rim? Many many thanks for all your thorough explanations and filming of your installation. Quite remarkable.
I think I read a year or so ago that Brompton import wheel rims (and spokes?) but am not sure, or from which countries. Perhaps you could talk to the staff at one of their dealers?
I appreciate your choice of hub but I see the Kindernay 14 speed hub can use a 28hole hub cage. I guess with this in mind it would make the wheel build significantly easier??
For the fork and rear triangle the ebay "brand" is Easyti and the vendor is justeasyday2020 The S-Type stem is from ebay "brand" Ti Sport. The seller is sunyshow2013 Both are dimensionally correct and fit properly. Both have very slight machining marks visible under the anodized gold coat, so they could have done a little better on pre-anodize finishing, these marks are too subtle for video but you will see them up-close. Easyti does sell S-Stems but not gold ones. I contacted him and asked for gold stem (which he sells in polished and sandblasted finish) but he said that he could not make a gold anodized stem. Gold anodizing color is different (shinier) from Ti Sport, so it must have been done in a different shops. I also have a Brompton cloned main frame from Ti Sport for another project. The dimensions and machining workmanship are good except for the same underpolishing issue as the stem. Both came from the city of XiAn (the place famous for the emperor buried with 25000 terra cotta soldiers)
Wow, very informative, I never realised there was that much to think about with spokes & lacing !
Thank you SO much for all you've done to document this build in such detail!! :D
I really like the way you think and how you explain things. Thanks.

excellent .. very professional and informative.. you tried with a fiber carbon rims? I would like to build something like that ! 👍
Ah this explains why non Brompton wheels often have broken spokes. Yes the Rolloff is a wonderful upgrade - way beyond by capabilities

Excellent!
Those rear triangle are Rohloff specific?
There is a Shimano internally shifting hub. This is 135 mm, no derailer hanger and the disc brake caliper holder is in the right place.
Could you list where you got your parts from? Which seller from E-Bay?

@@compulsivediy8036 Thanks for the insights and help! Appreciate it.
Why not use a Sun rim?
I now have sun rims, yes they are better.
