My heart sank a little and then I got goosebumps when he signed '02. Amazing how long ago this movie came out and it's still a huge part of my life. Buying the video tape when it came out was such a moment in my life, I still have it. 15 years later As an adult I still regularly watch this and being a fine art student who has a habit of drawing nothing but horses, this movie and development never ceases to inspire me.
I know i literally said "I got goosebumps when he signed '02. Amazing how long ago this movie came out". I didn't say it came out at any other time, I was 6 years old at the time of seeing it and I still have it on VHS/Video tape. I don't know what your response implies.
This is what got me into drawing, when I was only 6 years old. Now that I'm 20, my favourite thing to draw is still horses :D People think I can draw really good, when I just start drawing a draft horse during a boring class, but truthfully horses and dragons are pretty much the only thing I can draw properly xD
I love it how the music becomes more soft and almost soulful when he talks about how Spirit's eyes are important for showing emotion, I don't really know why.
Aubrey Butler yeah but that's because they've had a lot of experience in that field they're capable of doing some very beautiful art and animation that's why I want to be one of them one day
I definitely remember watching this on my Spirit DVD as a very little girl. Crazy to think I'd still be drawing because of movies like this all these years later!
Excellent work, man! Excellent movie, great music too..... everything is AMAZING! *.* I like to draw horses too! Thank you so much for the part with the legs and especially the hooves.... they often drive me crazy, but now I think i've got it, thank you :)!
I made one.... and it actually turned out okay, It isn't James Baxter good but I'm only eleven thank you to whoever put this up. This is one of my favorite movies! :D
Thanks for making this video! I find horses fairly hard to do, especially the legs, so seeing a step by step of an actual horse character REally helps :D
When I was 5 l was a fan of Spirit and in my Dvd there was this video, so i used to draw every day following the tutorial. And...comically... my signature was James Baxter 02 because i couldnt write Silly italian child
Ha! I remember doing this when I was about 9 or 10 for the the first time. Now I'm almost 19 and I redo this tutorial to mark my progress. Good memories :)
I really love spirit. But is it just me or are his legs and tail wrong in this drawing? If you look at them, they are positioned in an impossible way. Anyway, just a little mistake I guess, no big deal. Thank you for explaining how to draw my favourite horse!
Honestly, I have one thing to correct... The lines are not very good. Horses are my specialty when it comes to sketching and those lines still need work.

Spirit is such a beautiful and talented horse.
I love it how the music becomes more soft and almost soulful when he talks about how Spirit's eyes are important for showing emotion, I don't really know why.

ArbyTV
Not to mention this was done in post production, so they've drawn spirit countless times by this point.
He said it himself, took a lot of years to get where he is now, and probably much farther now because this was.... relatively 20 years ago....

maybe it's the style, i mean, this is a cartoon-ish horse.
