    This is my full review of the GoPro Hero 8 Black action camera. The GoPro Hero 8 Black is overall a great little camera although it has some major issues which will be discussed in this video.
    Depending on how you use the camera and for what purpose will determine if these issues are a problem for you personally. This video review of the GoPro Hero 8 will showcase Linear mode. Linear mode removed the horrible fish-eye look and it works a treat. If you are a filmmaker or vlogger who needs a 'regular' look to your productions then this is the video for you.

    thank you for that perfect video shane. i was so thankful for you showing that still staying and believing in the fisheye mode from gopro and users of the cameras (i hope you know what i mean). i dont like it either. thank you for mentioning the temperature problem every gopro has, its even a problem with my osmo action, but... i havent found out yet why the osmo pocket dont get so hot.
    which situation i do hate is, that i bought 2 different gimbals with the osmo action to stabilize the footage even more while shooting. the thing is now that feijutech (i know its wrong somehow) and hohem made 2 really good gimbals, but they dont connect with the osmo action, just with the wide range of gopro cameras. their software to use all the functions of the gimbals is useless with the osmo action. i really hope that dji will increase that situation once and i could get back to their products. i really enjoyed watching your video you look super sweet (i know you will grin) and keep up the good work. see ya around berlin some time :P bye for now

    I always wondered if I didnt have my settings right. Because when I recorded my band, after a while the video split. Now I know I'm not the only one. Thanks Shane !!!

    EDIT: gammar as was typing too fast!
    @Geeky Needy Techy,
    Happy NY and awesome video! You’ve covered everything that I was thinking of so I should have watched your video instead of others that you had mentioned and more.
    Here are some things I want to share to reciprocate:
    1) Battery: don’t know why people don’t talk about it enough as without it lasting a long time, it becomes useless.
    There are some alternatives to juice the GP8 (and other portable ones you might have as legacy):
    - Gudsen moza tripod which has built in battery and doubles as tripod. It has UBSA out and USB micro for charging it
    - Since then, Ulanzi and Feiyu Tech has come out with battery handles. Check it out. It allows you to have a light setup. Also has 1/4” female below to add on tripod
    2) Audio. More options if you’re not aware of it already:
    - Jevon Dovey showed the MyK app that you can get (it’s free but it’s limited or buy for $30 lifetime) and it records from iphone (I think they have android but not sure) + lav mic or external recorder like H1 or others and then you can mix them as needed. No need for the GP audio adapter. I reached out to them and they said in about one month they will make it available for the GP8. It supports GP7 and below (see their website for details and no affiliation here). It also has other features as remote control for your settings and telemetry.
    - GP audio adapter or the new media mod
    - Rode wireless go attached on with a dongle that takes in 3.5mm jack
    3) Cage. There are lots of them but I want to highlight 3 that I think is great for vlogging (add light and/or audio and/or ext. battery and/or whatever else you need):
    - Ulanzi G8-5 for GP8 and V2 for GP7
    - GP media mod
    - Smallrig (there are two versions, one is cage only CGV2505 or cage + GP mic adapter CGV2678). Both are currently on sale during preorders period. I got the latter with a cold shoe 1593 setup that includes: rode wireless go + audio adapter + lume 2.0. This cage allows you to protect your lens and also add 52mm filters if you use filters.
    The shotgun mics are only good when you are close to it but if you’re a one person crew the rode wireless, pico, sarmonic, or other external recorders are more versatile as you can be farther away
    4) Lighting. There are two types that are small and compact but good enough for this light setup:
    - Lume 2.0, just need one for about $90 and there is a code somewhere that you can save some money here. I think 10 or 15%. If you need it, let me know. Again, no affiliation here!
    - New GP light mod
    5) Drone footage with any lightweight action cam.
    I have the 1X (One X) and GP8 so I use it on my MP2 (Mavic Pro 2). It’s called PGYTECH adapter with a 1/4” mount. It stays on and so far I have not lost them. If you’re worries, you can always tape it down. You lose signal at high attitude and the reason I add them on is to get different shooting perspectives. It’s a nice to have though
    6) Other accessories in particular:
    - Joby suction cup with locking arm for lightweight action cams in car, bikes, scooters, motorbikes, etc.
    - Ulanzi extension pole if you need the reach
    - Fotopro tripods, there are many depending on your use cases but better than gorilla tripods as it has better form factor, more slim and also more grip
    Again, just sharing and love tech gear. No affilliation to any above.
    Keep up with these useful content that is so relevant for real world use.
    Cheers!

    I have hero 7black as well as the osmo pocket and action. Like you I use them 99%in daylight, I think the fixed lens cover. Is bullshit, just heartache waiting to happen. I've seen you can buy after market clip on nd filters, that snap over the top of the lens. Might be worth looking into. Thanx for the vid :), see ya on the next one. Aaron in Adelaide.

    Thanks for the video! How is it indoor with studio lighting? I know you said it's not great without lighting... I am looking to get better sit down video quality- 4k and wider shot. I use the canon g7x mark ll currently and looking to upgrade, but idk that I need something that is over $1k for simple sit down videos, so trying to figure out what to get. Thanks so much!

    I understand the audio cutting out is a bit frustrating; however, my Akaso V50 Pro SE actually creates gaps in the recording.

    Great video Shane, thanks! I've got a Hero7 black that, like you, I use for mostly non action stuff (video my kids in the park, hiking, etc). I was considering getting a gimbal for my Sony A6400 (or not selling my Panny GX85 and 15mm f1.7 lens......) as I get frustrated with the wide angle view of the Hero7.
    Is it worth upgrading from the Hero7 to the Hero8 just for the 4k linear mode?

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  4 роки тому

      I was under the impression the 7 had linear mode? If not, I feel like it's one of the primary reasons I got the 8. If you don't like the fish-eye effect I would upgrade for sure.

    I'm wondering why the GoPro rather than your phone. I find the form factor of the action camera a little awkward. I would love to have a small camera that I could stick on stage when I'm shooting concerts to get the drummer of the person on the keyboards. I was really keen on the Sony RX0 II but it has very serious overheating problems.

    if the file joins play seamlessly in camera it would suggest the audio is still there and just isn't being shown properly in the software you used.. have you tried other programs to join the files ? could be worth a go..

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  4 роки тому

      It's pretty hard to hear if the audio is fine or not just listening on the camera. I need to test it in some other programs and have a look :) The audio track is physically shorter than the video track. If I detach the audio it clearly is cutting out before the split.

      @EcBaPr 4 роки тому

      @@GeekyNerdyTechy i recall having a similar problem a while ago and i think it was related to the file headers being read wrong.. my clips werent from a GoPro but the problem looked the same which makes me think it could still work.. Id try either a demux or joiner program, something made by a different company..

    GoPro uses Fat-32? What century do they think they are living in? I’ve been using Ex-Fat for years now. It is just a formatting issue. Really easy to fix. It is a really simple thing for them to join the 21st century. Come on Nick.

    The year is 2020. I don't understand why gopro is still file splitting and not only that, can't do it properly.

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  4 роки тому

      Agreed. They are using old-style file formatting. I can't believe the audio bug either. Hopefully, it can be fixed with another firmware upgrade but I doubt it.

    Mate, You said it sucked for reasons that made me think why on earth are you using a gopro, i.e. audio split. Recording a band etc. It's an action camera. You admitted the only action yours would see is a bit of walking. I wouldn't say anything but you really harped on that.
