This is exactly what I needed to see! Not enough content on putting a double din below without cutting away at the heater behind, looks really clean. Need to do this to mine so I can replace the current radio with a gauge pod
If I had gauges to add they would look perfect in that radio delete panel. The goal was not not hack anything up to the point it couldn't be returned to stock.

Killer job! For the panel mods in the future perhaps it may be good to invest in a plastic welder and a hot staple gun? They both take a little finess to not overdue it and burn the plastic or take the staple right through a panel. But super quick to learn. Install looks super clean! That stereo delete really brought it together!

Hey thanks for the video, can't find many people wanting to keep the OEM stereo and all in place and add an aftermarket stereo down below... I'm just going to throw a single din down at the bottom below the temp/clock/etc. unit where the cubby currently is to keep the original look - will the cc unit still work without power to the OEM stereo unit? I'm kinda thinking that the disk changer in the trunk still working would be cool. Sorry if this is weirdly worded, i'm a newbie and wanting to pull out/mess around with as little as possible
I just stumbled across this video and idk if anyone has ever told you before, but you could seriously be a stand-in for Jason Sudeikis as a voice actor.
To make the radio think that you are in park you just need to ground a cable called prolly „handbrake”, you can do it even by grounding it on the radio itself.
One tip if you won. On the parking wire you can plug directly with the positive key signal of the radio, and you can play were ever you won on without parking the E36. Cheers ✌️

@@matt13ross I have a pair of Infinity REF-9633ix. They get as low as 23hz. 27-30hz is really the sweet spot for low end in my car. It's loud. I would buy from crutchfield and if you don't like them just return them.

How functional was the low mounted double din, especially for navigation? Looked good but seems like you have to take your eyes off the road for too long.
Yea all new double din radios that I have run into have that wire to connect to the parking brake for their setting instead and video you can just ground that wire out on the chasis of the radio and it should be fine
@@matt13ross I don't want to cut into the air vents tubing or whatever is back there but if you plan on moving up I'd say use some plastic tabs that are about double the height of the radio and tap into the metal rails that are inside there that how I manage to put mine up there and be careful Taking out the vent up top you could break the temperature cable
Awesome set up! Loved the video, Do you think you could do a short video on how you got the stock amp to work wiring wise? Ive looked high and low for answers and im stuck on my aftermarket radio, ill get sound then it will say miswired or it just says miswired after I hear the amp turn on.
You know what is the perfect mod to this? Instead of the USB charger in the sigarette lighter, you can use the USB-C outlets that newer BMWs have. They fit in the rectangular holes next to the lighter and have the oem orange light.

@@matt13ross It is installed in the Trunk/Boot of the Bimmer. Mine is located on the driver's side. The subwoofer has a built-in amp so it gets it power from the battery which is located conveniently in the trunk. There are UA-cam videos explaining how to install it. INFINITY BASSLINK.
The air conditioning unit should go where you have the new LCD display and the new infotainment system should be installed in the old radio and air conditioning. I recommend that you buy a basic 3d printer to make parts such as a new surrounding frame that should fit the new IS and old AC in the new location. 🤙🏻
In the video I show that the climate control won't fit down there, at least not easily. It's too deep and sticks out. Now, I am planning on a 3D printer at some point, just not a priority yet.
@@matt13ross I had a 99 cab in Sakhir Orange that I miss. What I did was put the radio on top. Use the surround that came with the radio and add bondo where needed and sand the bottom corners round to fit the spot. The climate goes where the obc used to be and the obc goes on the bottom since it is the least used. For the climate control you have to remove the faceplate and add bondo to the corners to make them square. The cc is also about 1/16" wider then the obc so you have to shave the sides down a bit. On my car the cc face was smooth and the obc face was textured so you need to either texture the cc or sand the obc smooth. I did both a smooth version and a version where everything was skinned in carbon fiber. I would look into bypassing the factory amp. It was made to accept 1-4w and you are probably putting 12-15w a channel into it (I do not know the specs of your head unit if it has an amp or not. I am assuming it does) It will burn the factory amp out eventually - and hopefully it will not literally burn. You can get "converters" that will take a amped output from a hu and power it down to 1-4w so it can be safely connected to an amp. Or if the radio has pre-amp rca outputs you can convert them to regular wire and use that. Car looks great, it must be so much fun with the Ls!
I hate the look of the climate control relocated to the bottom. It doesn't fit right at all, even with custom fab work, the rounded edges look bad. You're saying it "should" be that way just because that's the easy way that everyone does. This makes it look so much better.
That screen looking great! But imo if not the original e36 radio, any other old looking radio would look better than that plastic filler in the real spot of the radio unit 😄 either way, NICE build.

To make the radio think that you are in park you just need to ground a cable called prolly „handbrake”, you can do it even by grounding it on the radio itself.
You can't with the new radios, it cant' have a constant ground. That's why I installed the relay.

Solid idea there too! I'm actually planning to move it up and move the CC down with some custom 3D printing.
To fix the parking brake issue all you had wire the parking brake wire to the ground.

How did you mount the double din in the bottom cubby?
Use some aluminum and bent it to shape, mounting it via a bolt that was on the tunnel. Hard to explain, but very custom. Solid though.

how did you end up mounting the actual radio and radio cage?
I def forgot to video that. The cage is bolted to a piece of aluminum I bent. It sits underneath the cage and bolts to factory thread in the floor.
