You've had the car since your teenage years that's awesome. I remember having my e36 325i when I was 21 (2012) and back then they were dirt cheap lol. They were like rwd German Honda civics due to their relative affordability and supportive forums. Also nobody truly respected them until Instagram blew up.
Yea now they are all clapped out / rusted, or super expensive!
they still dirt cheap if you live in europe
@@sashasokolov444 Tell me where. My 320i cost me 1500€ in 2018 with good spec. Now I have to pay at least 5000€ for similar or less specd version with a shit colour. I love Calypsorot-Metallic.
@@anatolsergon681 the ones i’ve been looking at are bellow €4000, honestly they push €3000 at most. and the one i was kind of eyeing (want everything i want) is pushing €3000 and honestly for ME that’s dirt cheap.
@@sashasokolov444 Link pls, would buy one or two in an instant.
This is exactly what I needed to see! Not enough content on putting a double din below without cutting away at the heater behind, looks really clean. Need to do this to mine so I can replace the current radio with a gauge pod
If I had gauges to add they would look perfect in that radio delete panel. The goal was not not hack anything up to the point it couldn't be returned to stock.
@@matt13ross yeah you done a great job with it. Did you consider a modular double din at all? Stuck between that and a shallow double din but now I've seen you do it I know it can be done without cutting too much away
What is a modular double din?
@@matt13ross guess not then 😂 screen and the unit itself are separate. Can mount the screen and then run the unit itself with a cable from the glovebox
Oohh I see. How would the screen mount though?
That’s super clean the way you installed the double din and USB plug. Has an OEM + look to it.
Thanks! That was the goal.
Finally a decent video on this kind of installation, ive been thinking of doing this kind of double din upgrade on the bottom cubby
Thanks! I'm glad I could help out.
Killer job! For the panel mods in the future perhaps it may be good to invest in a plastic welder and a hot staple gun? They both take a little finess to not overdue it and burn the plastic or take the staple right through a panel. But super quick to learn. Install looks super clean! That stereo delete really brought it together!
Thanks! I've never used either of those tools, I feel I would destroy something lol. But I'll look into that, sounds interesting.
@@matt13ross 3D Printing!
You have an awesome workstation. Good audio, pure bliss
Thank you! So much better than worn out stock stuff
Seen your videos pop up on my recommended few times and I had to subscribe. I was losing my motivation to get my e36 until I saw your videos. Keep up the good work bro.
Thanks! Always tinkering with this car so lots of videos in the future.
Love your bimmer videos, keep up the good work 😎
Thanks 👍 will do!
You do such nice, well thought out work!
Thanks Ken!
Ive had my 318is coupe 24 years polishes up well
I am impressed! great job and sound.
Thank you very much!
Such a nice car you drive my dream build pretty much! nice touch man! One love
Just ordered these bavsound speakers for my 99 m3. Glad I found your video because I didn't know they required the Amazon adapters 😅
Great vid mate!
Thanks!
Very very good. In the radio delete you could install gauges or stick the OEM 18 button computer thing
No need it’s Ls powered, the obc isn’t meant for that although it would look pretty cool
The radio came out really nice, u really should install some gauges in blank plate where the oem radio was 😎 nice build bro! U earned my sub!
I would if I didn't have the Holley digital dash, shows me all the data I need.
Good shit 🔥🔥🔥
Great video, I started laughing my ass off when you cut tried cutting that frame😂😂
I should have known better but never saw it coming....lol
Looks good. Well played.
Thank you!
Very nice vid. Good job
Thank you!
Discovered your channel as I was looking for a specific repair video on my e46. Seeing you make your way to the back speakers with that cage showed me you are just as crazy as the rest of us bmw guys keeping this cars going. They are just the best 👍
Crazy BMW guys, yup sounds like me! lol thanks!
Sweet e36 bro loved the video
Thanks 👍
Best e36 audio and head unit upgrade ever, i have been doing this and man. Headache
Thanks! Headache is accurate lol.
Perfect spot for some gauges now.
If I didn't have the digital dash already, yes for sure.
Great video
Thank you!
love it, great watching stuff like this instead of doing jobs on my own car 🤔 . jealous of your garage too awesome spot beats driveway work ,
Driveway work sucks!
Nice job,I was looking into the Bavarian speakers myself. I have a 97m3.
They sound very clear, bass is definitely lacking IMO though.
HOLY F. GREAT UA-camR, 10/10 Keep on that way
Haha, well thank you!
NICE!!!
It’s hard to watch your videos, only because I get so jealous of how much cooler your e36 is than mine😂 I’m just playing brother, absolutely love your car and it’s very inspiring!
Haha, I'll take that as a compliment, thank you!
That screen looking great! But imo if not the original e36 radio, any other old looking radio would look better than that plastic filler in the real spot of the radio unit 😄 either way, NICE build.
I just stumbled across this video and idk if anyone has ever told you before, but you could seriously be a stand-in for Jason Sudeikis as a voice actor.
LOL really? I'll have to listen to him, I've never been told that.
Thanks for the video. I have an INFINITY BASSLINK installed in my E36 trunk. You should add that to complete your sound system. Trust me.
Where / how did you install it?
@@matt13ross It is installed in the Trunk/Boot of the Bimmer. Mine is located on the driver's side. The subwoofer has a built-in amp so it gets it power from the battery which is located conveniently in the trunk. There are UA-cam videos explaining how to install it. INFINITY BASSLINK.
Awesome thanks!
To make the radio think that you are in park you just need to ground a cable called prolly „handbrake”, you can do it even by grounding it on the radio itself.
You can't with the new radios, it cant' have a constant ground. That's why I installed the relay.
One tip if you won. On the parking wire you can plug directly with the positive key signal of the radio, and you can play were ever you won on without parking the E36. Cheers ✌️
I've got the relay thing hooked up to fool it.
10:21 Real tears 😭 😭 . Thanks
True story lol
Arfff the BM life bro👍 Big UP to France ✌️
Thanks!!
I’ve never seen this channel before, but this guy does remind me of a Great Value- Ed Bolian
Ha!
Stumbled upon this video too! You already have the link for the Din so thanks! Let me know if you still have those rear 36 seats!!!
Yup, still have the seats!
Good video
Thanks!
Love the garage space and super clutch linking everything in the description. I'm in the process of reorganizing my garage but it gets super cold. Do you use a garage/space heater?
Thanks! The way my house is built, the garage is basically the basement. It stays relatively warm where I don't need a heater thankfully.
@@matt13ross ohhh ok. Sweet. Thanks for the response.
Yea all new double din radios that I have run into have that wire to connect to the parking brake for their setting instead and video you can just ground that wire out on the chasis of the radio and it should be fine
I read that they are smart enough to know if you just ground it, hence why I got the relay.
The air conditioning unit should go where you have the new LCD display and the new infotainment system should be installed in the old radio and air conditioning.
I recommend that you buy a basic 3d printer to make parts such as a new surrounding frame that should fit the new IS and old AC in the new location. 🤙🏻
In the video I show that the climate control won't fit down there, at least not easily. It's too deep and sticks out.
Now, I am planning on a 3D printer at some point, just not a priority yet.
@@matt13ross I had a 99 cab in Sakhir Orange that I miss. What I did was put the radio on top. Use the surround that came with the radio and add bondo where needed and sand the bottom corners round to fit the spot. The climate goes where the obc used to be and the obc goes on the bottom since it is the least used. For the climate control you have to remove the faceplate and add bondo to the corners to make them square. The cc is also about 1/16" wider then the obc so you have to shave the sides down a bit. On my car the cc face was smooth and the obc face was textured so you need to either texture the cc or sand the obc smooth. I did both a smooth version and a version where everything was skinned in carbon fiber.
I would look into bypassing the factory amp. It was made to accept 1-4w and you are probably putting 12-15w a channel into it (I do not know the specs of your head unit if it has an amp or not. I am assuming it does) It will burn the factory amp out eventually - and hopefully it will not literally burn. You can get "converters" that will take a amped output from a hu and power it down to 1-4w so it can be safely connected to an amp. Or if the radio has pre-amp rca outputs you can convert them to regular wire and use that.
Car looks great, it must be so much fun with the Ls!
I hate the look of the climate control relocated to the bottom. It doesn't fit right at all, even with custom fab work, the rounded edges look bad. You're saying it "should" be that way just because that's the easy way that everyone does. This makes it look so much better.
I thought I was the only one using the alpine radio on my e36
Same spot?
@@matt13ross I went with up top I want to move it down
Why do you want to move it down there? I want to move it up lol.
@@matt13ross I don't want to cut into the air vents tubing or whatever is back there but if you plan on moving up I'd say use some plastic tabs that are about double the height of the radio and tap into the metal rails that are inside there that how I manage to put mine up there and be careful Taking out the vent up top you could break the temperature cable
Yo I feel you on that roll bar thing. I just want to be able to pop the side windows out and latch them back when I'm done. Its like impossible most of the time I send one of the kids back there to open or close them.
Lol send the kids back there that's awesome. Totally agree with the rear windows, haven't been opening mine. Would be nice especially without A/C.
@@matt13ross yeah no AC for me either. I'm thinking of coming up with a latch I can reach some how.
Lemme know if you do. Also, you can retrofit electronic latches if you can find them.
@@matt13ross I didn't know that was even an option.
May be a euro thing but I’ve seen it before.
Awesome set up! Loved the video, Do you think you could do a short video on how you got the stock amp to work wiring wise? Ive looked high and low for answers and im stuck on my aftermarket radio, ill get sound then it will say miswired or it just says miswired after I hear the amp turn on.
Nothing special here, just standard wiring!
To fix the parking brake issue all you had wire the parking brake wire to the ground.
True, but the relay has it fooled to work all the time.
im convinced apex arc 8's look great on every e36
Facts!!
you can just trigger the parking brake when you make that sensor to a grounding in the car
Yup but I've got the relay now so I never have to worry about it.
awesome
I did something similar. All infinity components with 6x9 in the back. Lots of bass response.
Stock amp? After driving this for a week or so, I'd like more bass. I'm wondering if I should change the BSW 6X9s to another brand.
@@matt13ross I have a pair of Infinity REF-9633ix. They get as low as 23hz. 27-30hz is really the sweet spot for low end in my car. It's loud. I would buy from crutchfield and if you don't like them just return them.
@@matt13ross yes I have a stock amp. Non HK system from the factory. I plan on swapping out the amp for something aftermarket down the line but for now this setup is great.
Awesome thank you!
Nice install on that headunit!! What amp do you have? I still have the Stock HK which I know is supposed to only work well with the 2 Ohm HK speakers, most aftermarkets are 4 Ohm.
Still the stock amp, not sure if it's worth upgrading or not?
You know what is the perfect mod to this? Instead of the USB charger in the sigarette lighter, you can use the USB-C outlets that newer BMWs have. They fit in the rectangular holes next to the lighter and have the oem orange light.
Solid idea there too! I'm actually planning to move it up and move the CC down with some custom 3D printing.
laughed my ass off! Thank you for that! ahahahha
Loving that you have had the car for that long. One question, have you experienced hitting the 2din with your hand while shifting? That is my concern. Looking to do the same thing.
Nope, not even close to hitting it actually.
@@matt13ross Thank you, still want to keep my obc, you think it could sit well where the radio normally sits?
@@berke1572 same question here
Hi , what model and brand are the small speakers on the door card as i didn't understand and not seeing in description, much appreciate it!
BAV
you smashed it dude well done, what is that lcd screen cluster above steering wheel please i need one dude
It's a digital dash from Holley.
Man, you were really patient with those door panels. I’m glad you were able to save them! I literally ripped mine out and chucked them for some door cards lol.
I was leaning towards delete panel door cards, but none of them have armrests and I need that lol.
Nice work men I want to do it in my e36 could u please let me know what ref of speakers did u use in the doors (tweeters and med) and kick panel ? thanks
Bav sound kit!
10:24 Oh yes, the DIY men.
NOT GOOD!
Maybe adding some boost in the future could definitely give the car some more pep in its step, could definitely see a pro charger or something like that soon
Some kind of supercharger would be pretty simple, but I want to keep this car N/A.
I wish i saw this vid last week when I ordered used HK rear subs 🤦
Subs for the rear deck or in the trunk?
1:04 "A'lotta Notta".., I believe you may have started something similar to "Whatever, Yadda Yadda Yadda". I like Alotta Notta. I'm gonna start using that
That interior would be so perfect if you had the door cards and dash covered in alcantara.
I thought about a touch of alcantara on the door card inserts....
Sick detailed video man. I just picked up a boston metallic green 328is and wanted to know what your wheel specs are?
17X10 all around. I have over fenders though.
@@matt13ross 10-4. Thank you!
Just the video I was looking for! I know im a bit late, but im really hoping Boosted Apex replies. What did you do for the remote power wire (blue/white) for the head unit? Did you connect it to the power antenna (blue on the car harness)?
Hrm. Possibly. Pretty sure I went blue to blue.
@@matt13ross oh you legend. thank u. im pretty sure the parking break bypass thing hooks up into the blue/white wire. Sound familiar?
Thank you so much bu the way
I followed the instructions with the bypass kit. Other than that, I don’t remember lol.
i got JBL club 620F's their insane
how did you end up mounting the actual radio and radio cage?
I def forgot to video that. The cage is bolted to a piece of aluminum I bent. It sits underneath the cage and bolts to factory thread in the floor.
I can't find anywhere what sizes fit in the door panels. What did you put in? I'm guessing a 4" and 1"?
Hrm, not sure to be honest. BSW are direct fit plug and play.
How do you rate the D shape wheel? Considering getting one but heard they kinda suck for drifting
I love it
When you dont put speaker in the door, any upgrade doesnt have any sens. In ori place speakers play in the dashboard and outside the car.
Just did a similar job, which microphone did you go with? I'd like to do something similar.
It came with the Alpine head unit, so I'm not sure.
How did u put everything thing in tho? I’m doing the same thing at the moment I got everything done but I’m stuck trying to put everything into the bottom cubby
You mean the wiring or what?
No like putting everting in to finish. I don’t know if this makes sense but I got the stereo hooked up in its place but how do u put the plastic chassis so that everything is done?
Hey where did you get the digital instrument cluster from?
Holley, in description box.
Nice. Are these fitmentlab overs?
Yup! Phase 2
How did you mount the double din in the bottom cubby?
Use some aluminum and bent it to shape, mounting it via a bolt that was on the tunnel. Hard to explain, but very custom. Solid though.
lets get our ls e36"s together
Where at?
Hi, can you tell me please from where can i get a ball shifter knob? I want one for my e30
It's for a T56.
