Heart Disease: Is cholesterol really the problem

- In this video, Dr Sanjay Gupta discusses cholesterol and why cholesterol is blamed for heart disease and the real reason why heart artery narrowings happen. If you want to speak to me you can do so via my website: www.yorkcardiology.co.uk or my Facebook page: Yorkcardiology@gmail.com
An honest doctor who loves humanity and not dollars .He explains everything very clearly and educates people
Oh I'm sure he likes $$ too! He paid dearly to go to school He's just smart and has a great heart and spirit, and the personality to put up with people?
There's a saying, " It's not what you're eating that causes problems, but what eating YOU. Long term stress and anxiety is a killer.
It is refreshing to. See a young doctor with sincerity and honesty really caring for humanity, unlike doctors that look @ $ signs and do u necessay procedures. Be responsible with your health eat right foods, small portions, avoid a sedentary life you will be surprised by your choices
Its wholistic. But if you have stress and eat the right diet, heart disease will plummet. Sadly people have no idea how high their blood lipids are, it builds over decades until the damage is irreversible.
Sanjay, you are spot on. Ever since I started being more mindful, happy, present, eliminated alcohol completely from my life, eating whole foods, taking fish oils, magnesium, sleeping better, all of my health issues resolved. I now know why. I reduced the inflammation.
There are three things that I've learned you should never allow to get out of control: 1)inflammation 2)insulin resistance and 3) oxidative stress. I'm sure there is more but if you can keep those three in check, along with maintaining a good immune system, you'll save yourself from a lot of medical headaches in your life.
@@fisterhr how do you check for oxidative stress?
@@jacquidan01 A quick google search will give you a list of signs of oxidative stress. Here is a list I found:
-Fatigue
-Memory loss and/or brain fog
-Muscle and/or joint pain
-Wrinkles and grey hair
-Decreased eye sight
-Headaches and sensitivity to noise
-Susceptibility to infections
@@fisterhr thank you!👍 But are there any tests that can be taken to show this? These signs can be a many things.
@@jacquidan01 YOu should ask your doctor. He/she can guide you in the right direction OR, you should consult with a naturopath. On your next doctor visit, ask for a fasting insulin test, something they usually don't order unless you ask for it. They may tell you that the A1c is enough, but that is not true. You can have a normal sugar count and still have insulin levels out of the normal levels and that is VERY DANGEROUS if it doesn't get addressed soon. Ask for the insulin fasting test or demand it! Don't take no for an answer. if your doctor refuses to do it, find another one or pay for it out of pocket because it is VERY IMPORTANT. If your fasting insulin levels are out of range, then you need to ask your doctor for help in fixing that. If you read between the lines of what I'm advising you here, you'll notice that I'm helping you to push your doctor to get TO THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM, instead of allowing him/her to prescribe medication to treat something for life, instead of curing it. Does that make sense?
Dr. Gupta is a treasure. He has such an ability to speak at a level for none medical people to understand. Please never stop your videos because you are helping your fellow man. I for one so appreciate you.
I agreed
Excellent video! Finally a cardiologist who addresses the real causes behind heart disease.
thanks Mac!
i guess Im asking the wrong place but does someone know a trick to log back into an instagram account..?
I was stupid forgot the account password. I would love any assistance you can give me!
Not only explained in simple terms, but it's a pleasure to hear a voice that is clear, well paced and proper English! Too many people talk poorly these days and don't take a pride in their speech.
PS I love all the analogies too!
Diagnosed with muscle damage due to a statin prescribed for slightly elevated cholestrol. The side effects from the statin were far far worse than the risk that the original problem posed for me. Thanks for your videos Dr gupta - I wish there were more doctors like you.
How much cholesterol did you have?

Thank you doctor Gupta for your videos. I always share them on my Facebook account 😊
I am not a cardiologist but I am an anesthetist and physiologist. And I agree with everything you say. I was trying to think of a way to explain this and I have to say your nonstick pan is a perfect explanation. I’m going to start Using this analogy. But don’t worry I will give you the credit ha ha
I’m also an anesthetist, I agre with this analogy
Me, too. Professor-E
An honest doctor, intelligent and practical, rarer than rocking horse shit nowadays. Great video and thank you.
Excellent explanation, we are lucky to have you on youtube
Yes we are lucky to have a doctor that can give us all the information for our health. TQSM doctor.
@@halimahabduljabbar5162 Odds are, there are lifestyle changes you can make to improve your cholesterol numbers. That’s true because, more often than not, unhealthy behaviors are the main culprits behind high cholesterol.
Your body naturally produces all the LDL (bad) cholesterol it needs. An unhealthy lifestyle - not enough exercise, too many unhealthy foods - makes your body produce more LDL cholesterol than it needs. This is the cause of high LDL cholesterol for most people.
Behaviors that can negatively affect your cholesterol levels include:
Unhealthy diet
Lack of physical activity
Smoking or exposure to tobacco smoke
Excess weight
Stopping or reversing these unhealthy lifestyle factors can help improve your cholesterol numbers. but don't panic, I already have a solution, For more information, click here tinyurl.com/y2qq3t6c >

I’m a pharmacist and I give lectures to cardiac rehab patients about their medications. This is is very good analogy. I hope that I can continue to hear these kinds of informations. Thank you.
Doctor Sahib, you describe the complex processes in simplified way with concrete examples, this proves that you're a practitioner as well as an effective teacher.
Explains the real causes and puts things into perspective amazingly well
My HDL and LDL is a little bit higher then normal when I had my hear attack. What I had for 30 years is Insomnia, Depression, Eating dissorder and cronicel pain ( inflammation)
I allways had the feeling it was the stress from all this making my heart attack. Thank you for this information
Car pollution is like smoking cigarettes.
Good discussion; thanks for being so thorough and presenting the facts so we can understand them.
Really the best explanation I have heard on cholesterol, and blood pressure in the other video. Thank you Dr Sanjay and God bless you.
That pan analogy was fantastic. Great video.
It's sugar and refined carbs that cause inflammation , my cholesterol and tryglicerades went down on a keto diet.
I've just started keto diet so much should learn though !
Its fantastic we are hearing this from a cardiologist.
Thank you so much best explanation I have ever heard about this topic. I have studied and been in health industry over 20 years plus school and this was excellant. Texted this video to many people.
Very informative,Dr. Gupta. Keep up the good work A thousand thanks.
Dear Dr Gupta,
Interesting talk never cease to rise the awareness to negate the effects of cholesterol. Being a retired medic, routine cardiac investigation showed the changes only to have stent in the widow maker artery. Although kept up with good health prior to only forcing me to study, learn nutrition experimenting on myself a triad of losing weight, nutritious diet and exercise. My blood pressure came down dramatically, all the blood results are bang normal. Blockages in the artery made me more resolute to address the issue without a fear which most patients do. I did relocate to India soon after retirement. I am on plant based diet. My balanced food of dietary fibre, antioxidants and anti inflammatory nutrients come from the home cooked meal. In a month I get through chia seeds, basil seeds, millets, legumes, beans, fruits, vegetables, spinach both green and red, balsamic vinegar. I call this biotuning over a period of nine months.
I don’t have question. I only have solution to avoid processed and ultra processed food. Kitchen gender free, if we don’t spend quality time in the kitchen with fresh produce only to end up spending part of life in the hospital.
Bas.
Wow!!!! This is the best UA-cam channel by far. Thank you so much.
Your Brilliant explaining things, just been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease at the age of 48 yrs plus my dad suffers to from CAD too. some narrowing and plaque in two of my arteries.. Had an angiogram told I had heart disease sent home, then put on tablets statins, beta blockers and aspirin. Yet I’ve never had a blood test for Cholesteryl
So worried because I’m coming to a point I struggle to do simple chores, like going up and down stairs, bedsheets etc..
I’ve learnt so much from your videos and I thank you for that. Your a credit to us all!
Just found you after a bad test and battling cholesterol with lifestyle changes with some success but still not enough. Thank you so much for your well-being balanced and informative view. Lots of clinicians in the UK could learn much from you including my own!
The whole point of the video is that there are several factors involved in the underlying cause of heart disease - inflammation - and that cholesterol is not one of them.
Really interesting. Thank you! It is refreshing that the Doctor talks to, and not at, people.
i can't get enough of your outstanding information videos, you would be saving so many lives , remember this , don't let the ones that got away get you down, but rather be happy knowing not all got away, in example, you might lose some but save so many, its the fact that you tried that makes you great and you should be proud, we are all proud of you and your works, kind regards 😊
Wonderful video! So informative and you explain things so clearly! Your British accent is a plus!
An honest Dr to explain the cholesterol problem. Thank you
Thank you
Thank you thank you! You confirmed all of my thoughts and feelings about taking prescriptions so quickly, without trying to figure out the underlying problems and solving the underlying reasons for a particular situation first. I am not a doctor, but I have always thought about all the things that you have discussed in your videos. It all just makes since.
great to hear this from the mainstream medics!
Thank you so much for such a clearly understandable explanation. There is so much confusion out there, your explanations give me, well they give me hope and clear actionable guidance. Please keep sharing your gift.
Love the focus on lifestyle and not just pills and symptomatic treatment. The uncertainty caused by modern lifestyles psychologically needs to be focused upon. Economic, social uncertainty have deleterious effects on masses of people.
Thank you so much , Dr Gupta for this very clear explanation. All doctors and in particular cardiologists need to watch this video so as to be able to explain the process of plaque build up to their patients. I love it that you actually used a frying pan to facilitate your explanation!
The amount of cholesterol you eat, ironically has no effect on preventing heart disease. Zero Heart attacks sky rocketed when they started homogenizing milk and stopped feeding cows grass. Grass creates k2 in milk. It's why I drink organic milk. However, organic milk only is 30% grass fed. back in the day it was 100% grass fed. Homogenized milk Scratches the artery walls and creates lesions. Cholesterol is the scar tissue that repairs these lesions. Constant repair makes these plaques thicker and thicker until it causes a heart attack. Doctors will Say Sticky cholesterol that, and good cholesterol this and bad cholesterol , whatever, But it's the scientist that say k2 cures heart disease. The doctors are the ones who are taught by reading what the scientist say. But the Corporation dictates what information the scientist can provide to the Doctors, The cardiologist of the world, today are forced by the corporation to follow to listen to what man said in 1951 Paul Dudley .The man was a fraud who worked for the corporation. Go figure
Thank you for such a clear and honest explanation. You are helping so many people understand heart disease. Thank you!!!!
Thank you. Please do not stop your video. You are a very good doctor. So far you are the best doctor. A pleasure to listen to you.
It's refreshing to see a cardiologist finally figuring out that diet is killing us. Mine did not and it's taken 6 years for me to figure out.
Thank you for this! I’m in the middle of moving and stress is sky high, so after watching this I’ll be much more conscious and try to keep it under control. Gracias, de Chile

Hi, I really appreciated your video that gives more knowledge on the inflammation of the heart arteries. Being T1D is even more important for me to follow an adequate lifestyle. So again thanks and keep up with the good job. Greetings from Milan Italy. Ciao
This chimes nicely with The Great Cholesterol Con, a book I'd recommend.
Thank you Dr . For being honest and telling us the truth. Wish you practice in the Orlando
Thank you so very much for such a perfect analogy, it summed the cholesterol in the arteries ideally. You do an amazing job with your videos Mr Gupta and reach so many as a result. Bless you.
Thank you so much Dr Sanjay Gupta for this video. It is very comforting to know.
also I might add been pre-diabetic . insuline resistance, nitric oxide depletion .....but the most important is Lipoprotein(a) which is the carrier of cholesterol into the endothelial walls. great explanation thank you
Wish Dr. Sanjay was my cardiologist. So refreshing to hear the truth and not what the doctors association wants you to hear.

I wish Dr. Gupta was my Cardiologist. I wish he was my GP. I may never have needed a Cardiologist. I doubt he's ever had the freedom to fully treat his patients the way he would like, the time, honesty and fast-track solutions! It's all in his head, makes him an exceptional doctor but not utilized. Let him loose! Break free, Sanjay! For us! For yourself!
Thanks for sharing. This video has given me many questions to ask and discuss with my Cardiologist. 🙏
Excellent explanation. I experienced this recently.

Thank you doctor for all your education on heart issues
I think God for you! What I love about your videos is that although you provide great information, you also understand the importance of not highlighting the worst case scenario’s. You understand that people with heart concerns are already stressed and you don’t add to the fear. Thank you so much! I pray that God continues to bless your business, your family and your life.
Nice video. Yes, diet, some exercising, enough sleep, check ups., etc. Thank you for sharing.
