Loving these DAP reviews. Just recently brought my first DAP Shangling M6 Ver 2.1 with the Moondrop Katos combo loving it so far.
Congratulations on your purchase!
Hi! Do you feel the differences with shanling m3x (which I own) are worth so as to upgrading my player with this? In case of an upgrade of m3x the M11 plus is better?
This player is more neutral than M3X, so the main question here is - do you want more neutral sound or not
And in case of upgrade, yes, M11 Plus will be better
Do you think this Hiby R5ii will be somewhere between Fiio M11 Pro/Plus and Ibasso DX160. I want to buy a DAP not too critical, clinical, bright like the Fiio and not too warm, woolly sound like the Ibasso.
I won't probably say so, as for me R5 is closer to DX160. And from another hand I can't call DX160's sound warm, so probably my perception is really different from yours
Does this player allows tidal offline? and, what would you choose, this one or r6 2020? regards from Monterrey, MX
it's regular android, so it can do everything that regular smartphones can do. including tidal offline
as for R6 2020, it's more neutral, more monitoring, and more resolving. so it's a matter of your preferences here, both in terms of sound and features
How does this compare to the 2020 HiBy R6? Is it worth the additional money? How about the FiiO M11S?
R6 is more neutral, more detailed, more focused on the micro-contrast
About M11S I released a separate video, it has comparisons
Thanks for the video. I just got my R5II and really like it. I wish you had shown us how you put the R5II in the case. I find I have to struggle to put the R5II in the case and find it very hard to remove from the case.
there is no secrets here :) I just pushed it inside, and then push in out, pushing at the bottom part where connectors are. it's tight indeed, but I think it's a good thing
can I ask which charger did u use to charge nowadays android dap ? 18watt charger or lower watt ?
I use QC charger made by Baseus for almost all USB-C device, or sometimes USB port on my cord extender. Modern chargers are usually smart enough to determine what to do. And DAPs usually support QC
Two questions.
Can the Hiby R5ii easily power something like a Sennheiser HD 598 via single ended class A?
And can it power a sennheiser HD 650 via balanced class A?
> Can the Hiby R5ii easily power something like a Sennheiser HD 598 via single ended class A?
didn't test in practice, but I'm not sure here. most probably it'll be ok, but it's more of a guess
> Can the Hiby R5ii easily power something like a Sennheiser HD 598 via single ended class A?
It'll be ok, but not great
How would the r5ii compare to the new m3 ultra for sound quality?
I said about that in M3 ultra review, but in short, HiBy is less warm and bit more punchy
Hi..
Which do you think is a better all around sounding dap , in terms of SQ?
Hiby R5 gen 2 or Ibasso DX170?
I usually listen to rock and power metal genres.
TIA
unfortunately I still didn't have a chance to test DX170
Hi sir, does this hiby r5 gen2 sounds better than a smartphone even in economy mode? I do have a hiby r3 pro but I want to upgrade to this hiby r5 gen2. Is it worth the upgrade even if I don't turn on the class A amp? Thanks so much
Hello, yes, it's better than the smartphone (regular ones) and better than R3 Pro, but difference isn't huge, so using A mode at least some times will make sense :)
@@PortaFi thank you so much for your reply, sir. You helped us a lot with your reviews.
@@aaronignacio4652 glad to be helpful
@@aaronignacio4652 I recently found out that Hiby has a free app, and you get the MSEB controls too. It’s almost as good as r3 pro, but you can’t raise the volume enough on some IEM’s. I decided to keep the R5 GEN 2 because the class a mode is worth it for me.
Great review, i'm thinking on this one or the rs2 that is based on a ladder dac system. No so sure what i want, maybe enter in the ladder dac territory could be a plus. Thanks!!!!
unfortunately I didn't test RS2, so I can't say anything about it, but Cayin RU6 is also a good way to "test" this technology
@@PortaFi Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!
Interesting product. Great video as always. As someone who has reviewed the iBasso dx160 in the past, would you consider this a significant update.. thanks again..
No, it's not an update over DX160 in terms of sound. It's better in all other aspects, but in sound it's more of subjective preferences
@@PortaFi thanks for your response.. 🙂
@@Rakshit0076 and thank you for your kind words!
Was wondering the same thing as so many problems with the dx160 …thanks
@@blamelouis i dont seem to have any problems with the DX160. what problems are you facing with it?
I love my LG V60
Hi,
Do $100-$200 portable amp/dacs sound better than this?
Hello, it's hard to say, as I didn't test many models in this range. Some maybe sound better (FiiO's new KA17 looks promising), others don't
@@PortaFi does it sound better than the BTR15?
@@kjg_95 yes, better
Hub Is this Better than the Sony wm1a?
unfortunately I didn't test WM1A
in value of money is this the best buy on .midrange territory in terms of quality of sounds?
well, at least one of the best.
there is no one single "best" model for everyone, as tastes and preferences are different, and some can prefer for example Shanling's offers
Thank you for responding..
Comparing to dongles like ru6 and questyle m15 is this r5 gen2 better in sound quality?
@@michaelpastoral3957 I didn't test Questyle. As for RU6, with IEMs they are comparable, but with full-size cans player with its own power supply will be better
Thank you sir
any thoughts how it compares to n3 pro? thank you
well, in short, R5-2 is more neutral and slightly more detailed, with less added weight. but it's lacking a tube mode with its signature sound
@@PortaFi thank you for replying. all the best. hope k9 ess version review is still on the cards. 🤞
@@adpr5278 working on it right now :) if everything will go ok, it'll be out this week
@@PortaFi really looking forward to it, thank you. hoping everything is ok and at least Lviv stays safe.
@@adpr5278 well, it's relatively safe, but safer than other parts of our country. Thank you for your kind words
Hey man whats up!
In terms of dynamics, sound stage, resolution, imaging and overall sound quality, which one do you think is better?:
M6 21
M6 21 Pro
R5 Gen2
M11 Plus ESS
I'm looking forward to get one of these but cant make up my mind. Also, build quality and reliability is a must, I don't want to deal with QC issues on the first few months.
My iems
Drop + JVC FDX1
ER2XR
Blessing 2
Timeless
My cans
HD600
SRH840
K371
Hello, subjectively, I like the sound of M11 Plus most of all, it's neutral, but not dull and fairly balanced
But unfortunately, none of the DAPs are 100% free of QC issues, there is always a probability of fail
@@PortaFi
In that case i will have to go with the company who provides best support. I don't really have experience dealing with Shanling, FiiO and Hiby. My previous daps are from Sony and IBasso.
@@elbonja unfortunately, I'm not a good advisor here, as I never contacted companys' support from a regular user perspective. So I don't know who of them are better or worse
@@PortaFi
Okay man. I appreciate your help.
Stay safe.
@@elbonja thank you! best wishes to you too!
Delighted to see another DAP review, even if it's hiby. lol Nice, detailed and informative as always. I own(ed) ibasso, fiio, cayin and hiby (old r6 and 2020) daps. I'm either the unluckiest hiby user ever or their devices are by far the worst of the four. Old r6 was always freezing, crashing, you name it. 2020 had excellent sound but after a few months became unusable. After 5-10 minutes on the go it would build up static electricity or whatever, that level of noise was ruining any kind of listening pleasure. I tried different IEMs that are not very sensitive, wearing different types of clothing, all transmission turned off, as far from the mobile phone as possible and nothing worked. Then I noticed hiby's warning in the manual that you should keep the device more than 20cm away from the body 🤣, which is the most ludicrous thing I've ever heard for a portable player. It is such a shame, since I really liked the sound. Hopefully they sorted it with this player. Thanks and all the best.
Which DAP would you recommend in the 200-300 range?
@@ShankerPaarey I'd love to help but I'm by no means an expert. if you tag porta in your comment I'm sure he'll be able to give you lot more helpful answer than I ever could.
@@ShankerPaarey what are your preferences in sound and what do you want in terms of features? In general, two basic choices here are Hidizs AP80 Pro and HiBy R3 Saber
@@PortaFi Hey Porta. Thanks for the reply. I got myself a Shanling M3X finally. Was a bit above my budget but I am pleasantly surprised.
@@ShankerPaarey congratulations on your purchase! Enjoy it! :)
I have had the unit for about two months and I'm happy with it however use amp A only which is a lot better and for me the best value right now on the market.I guess players that cost double the price sound even better but for sure double the price will not lead to double better sound.I use it in my car with the blue tooth connection. I know is not the best sound however the new car audio system does not provide a cable connection which would be better. At home, I use it with Sennheiser 660 S w.balanced HP cables which match very well. I like the operating system which is simple and easy to understand. I had 2 players before and one can see the new players in general offer improved sound and features. I purchased the unit directly online and received it within 3 weeks.
thank you for sharing!
ak kann max review please
unfortunately, it's really unlikely that I'll get it
I really like Kann Alpha, and I'd like to test (or even buy) Max, but now due to war in my country, almost all import operations have stopped, so no new gear :)
@@PortaFi hope the situation gets better. stay safe and God bless
thank you!
