This school bus to tiny house renovation has been the most rewarding project I've done to date and it feels awesome to have momentum on my side during this project. In this video I show you every step of the process for how to build a functional, versatile bedroom for your school bus to RV / Tiny house conversion. Storage is so important when it comes to tiny living and I've crammed as much utility out of the platform bed I wanted to do as possible. If you want to take on a school bus conversion follow along and I'll show you all my success and failures on Modern Builds! :)

Thanks for the support so far, can't wait to keep building and get Episode 3 out ASAP!!! :)
Im loving this little series and your channel! maybe you could put a cushion on the window seat?
Those outlet covers were a pretty cool idea, next time you could just get outlet spacers from the electrical section at home depot and longer screws, much less effort, and the outlet will be flush with the wall like you wanted
Nice videos. Imagine not hitting record at 3:24
So cool, super hot! dayum
Hey, for the sunroom u should put a retractable bug net, just incase.
When installing floor joists, always make sure the "crown" is up. Few boards are perfectly straight, so put the arch on top like a bridge beam. Not only is it stronger but if you have one up next to a board with the crown down your floor will be wavy.
Ya but rene
From the start, Ryan was very helpful and is continuing to be helpful about his ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans . Also, they have answered all the questions I have asked & I got outstanding support from his My Shed Plans full package.
An idea I’ve been knocking around in my head for a while is to use some “drawers” to take advantage of the awkward under bed area. My thought was to make boxes that will fit that have wheels or a rail but can be taken right out, then link them with a hook, so you can push them right back into the space and get them out again. Did any of that make sense?
Search for videos about truck bed drawers. It's a similar idea and you can get ideas.
@@sergiogsr good call.
I saw this idea in a tiny house and he should definitely do it
You'd probably have to disconnect each box as they are pulled out, because he doesn't have the room to pull it straight out at once. That's because the bathroom is in the way. But I'm sure there is a creative solution to fix that and not waste all the space underneath.
Was just about to post something similar. If you can't fit one giant drawer then a series of them back to back with most used stuff in the front one and rarely used stuff in the back.
boy, get your shoes off the bed
literally said this as I watched it too lmao!
At the end where you are throwing stuff out, I'm thinking "save the scrap wood" you never know when you need something small for shelves or whatever.
He has some already if you watched the other episodes and there’s Home Depot
Could have bought extension collars for your outlet issue. There maybe $2 at depot. Just a heads up for next time. Looking good tho nice work.
It will be great if you give a cost breakdown after completing the whole thing, like the cost of the bus, other materials etc. Waiting for the next notification 😍
Almost everybody:what about all that wasted space
Me: why didn't u try to cover up your license plate?
Just a little advice, from someone with a bit of experience in the electrical space, there's a reason outlet extension boxes, that solve your exact problem, are plastic and not metal. Generally, you don't want your user facing outlet trim to be conductive. You should at least run a ground wire around a stud on the back of it.
recessed lighting/ wall mounted lamps on the back wall over the bed would be sick. on a dimmer switch?
I LOVE the pinks and blues! My kinda colours. Amazing job!
it is a great idea if you use hinge from the base if the platform to the plywood of it so that you gain access to the empty space underneath. it could be a great storage for clothes
Splicing in your Instagrams, it's genius. Also, I agree that your skill at cutting freehand is uncanny.
love the dedication you have it’s inspiring and makes me want to be less lazy and start doing things i am passionate about too 😂👍
I had reminder set just waiting for this I was so excited
I did too!!
IKR!!
Yuri Dev do you know if after the whole build he does a walk through to show the whole thing? The only vids I found is when he first got it to jumping into the bedroom, is there any others in between or not yet?
Shaping up. Also an idea for those doing a build out. Instead of sanding/painting inside the bus, once you've cut your wood go ahead and pre-sand/paint on a saw horse etc. Then once everything is in place, you're pretty much just spot checking. He's young though, but our knees would be cashed.
Loving the build but one tip id give anyone using silicone is using a spray with water and water the silicon very lightly to give a smooth surface and it also makes it very clean
1:15 In between the screw holes is a tab. If you hammer that into the 2x4 it will hold the bracket into place.
I saw those as he was building but didn't know what they were for. Smart!
You should add hinges to the storage cabinets that are on the left and right side of the mattress to make it easier to open and close and also instead of using magnets for the cabinet in front of the platform, but overall I can confirm this is a certified banger!
They are not “brackets” they are joist hangers. And you used trim screws to secure them.
I was going to say the same thing. His description in the video lists construction screws, but in the video, it looks like trim of finish screws.
And are you guys gonna make this?
He does mention that he's not a professional carpenter/builder, that he is a self taught DIYer...but thx, I've jotted it in my notes for my future build...
This Bus bedroom needs shutters for privacy, Great Job so far. marvelous actually
I find this relaxing. And I don’t even do construction.
I am obsessed with this bedroom
I dont even care about what's wrong...IM JUST IMPRESSED 😁👏👏👏GOOD JOB
You lose loads of space needed for a tiny home under the bed
Is sooooooo dirty under that bed, oh my god. That's all I could focus on.
Same omg
I think under the bed you should store food maybe or to put a fridge there in order you to use that space or to making a small place where you could put your shoes there
SMOOTH
Hey I know Im a little late to comment but with the outlets, you could have used some spacers or a outlet sleeve. If you really want to go "pro" with it we electricians will just use wire wrapped around a screwdriver or a trimmed wire nut as a spacer for the outlet. Then you get longer screws and it will hold the outlet out of the wall enough to put a cover and make it look flush. But spacers are easier.
Under the bed storage if you could find a plastic storage container 5 of them all the same size connect them all together but also able to disconnect and reconnect in any order you could use the majority of the space if you understand what I'm saying.
Doing two drawers under the bed would be cool. One you can fully pull out, and one that pulls out to the bathroom
So I'm using two by fours to build the solar system - Modern Builds.
I know absolutely NOTHING about build, plumbing, etc. But I think this looks really hard to do so good job 👍
Man!!! Your hands are 💎💎
Your effort and the combination of the colours are 👍👍👍❤️❤️💯💯💯
You could of made the bed smaller and under the bed you could of put some cupboards for Extra storage
The bed area seems like such a waste of space. You could have made it so you can "lift it up" and used everything underneath as a storage place
No insulation?
the storage stuff in the sides might work better if you cut the lids in half , now youre balancing the long lid over youre head while trying to reach in and get wat you need with the other , the lids are a little to long to be moving them around like laying them on the bed before grabbing wat you need the half sized you can lift and slide over the other half
MORE EPISODES!
I want that bedroom platform if I ever do this daydream!
put a water tank under the bed
Awesome work, I noticed you have the same bedding and the same colour. I also bought a shaggy rug in 'blush pink'. GOOD TASTE😍
Platform should have hydraulic lifts to lift the whole platform up and really make best use of the space.
Loving how it’s looking 🤩👍✨
Wow! Marvelous! and for that, im mow your newest subscriber
Pls.make some more videos on that bus like having more cool features ok? Nice one
Манга жудям ёкти браво, 👏👏👏👏
So satisfying to watch the progress. I noticed heavy rocks to help flatten the warped wood. What is your best advice for flattening warped plywood?
Love that design
You could tour around the country in that. Assuming it runs,
I am waiting for third episode sir. First two episode are beautiful
awesome, modern builds
very good
Everything is perfect but drill a heap of holes under the mattress it will let it breath and stop mold
Nice job on the bus project!!🚌🏠
It’s really cool but I would’ve stained and varnished the wood, and carpeted the floor
Ewww who puts in carpet anymore lol
I can’t tell if your joking
Jacob *you're
And I'm not. Carpet is disgusting and ugly lol
If you had a bus with the engine at the front would it be a good idea to have the bathroom at the back to use the whole width and make it feel less cramped?
I want you to know I'm watching all of your videos in 1 day on the bus video So I'm counting
Should've incorporated heavy duty struts with that elevated bed frame. Have built in storage areas that can easily be accessed to best utilize all the dead space. May need to put framing around the mattress. Can easily see it moving around while driving. then again not my bus. Still enjoy watching your builds tho!
I saw my first modern builds episode which was biz house one and I instantly subbed and turned on notis
can't wait for episode 3. .🙏😊
By the bed part could you make the bed lift up like the a hood of car? that why you have a lot more storage under where the mattress is?
Do yourself a favor and ground those cover plates.
Remember from the first episode that there are no fuses or circuit box.
That is a fire/harm risk.
Omg yes!
that's awesome man, a moving bed? cool. 🤣
How is this guy not more famous than he is?
Overall great work... not wild about the pink though
Definitely should’ve put more research into this project or at least thought of more efficient ideas rather than beings lazy :/
You know when it came to the receptacles ( plugs) you could have picked up a plastic single box extender for about a dollar. We use them all the time when it comes to installing a receptacle in a kitchen or bathroom with title work. The receptacle would that be flush .
Oh No! I'm Hooked! LOL!!!!!!
on the pink bathroom wall you should have a storage unit
At 14:09 my guy made fireworks thatss lit and i would hire him to do the same thing but ill decorate it my self and well paint with aesthetic and pastel cute color
U could use under space flr storage
Beautiful
I wonder how much weight all they 3/4" ply adds to the bus. Isn't all this a bit too solid? What's your experience with this after almost 10 months?
Awesome awesome awesome !!!
Can't wait to see ep 3 bro
You have done very well mate keep up the great work and keep these great uploads coming
Is the plan to drive the bus from place to place? I'm wondering about the weight of the wood framework making the bus too heavy.
So did you piano hinge any of this build, so you could use this empty space??? Tons of Empty space that could be storage for clothing, tools, or even your dirty laundry, or food storage
Man that is so cool!!!
thank you for sharing.... love it, coming out really nice.....
. You can create hidden almira in the bed for clothes
i hype for epi 3
Awesome videos and amazing work and yes you fell down.lol 👍
Guys I know I know! It's just a show but I need to say it: when the shoes touched the pillows! Mama no! lol
There were so many “aawwwww fuck it” moments
Hey man I would recommend blurring out your license plates because it is not blurred at the start of the video
I really like DIY and building and also i like ur vid
some curtains sure can help;)
This is sick dude
too cool for school
That is awesome
In episode 1, you said you couldn't use a level to frame up the bathroom because you didn't know if the bus was level. Did you level the bus, or verify that it was level? At 1:28, you are using a level to install the bracket. Just curious.
He could've just made the center of the bed more like a hydraulic elevation type not exactly that but something of that sort so that the space below the matress area could be used too
Did the bathroom episode come out yet. I'm excited to see what's next because I want to do something similar. Also can you provide a sort of estimate you spent on each project. I know the bus itself was 10k but I would like to know how much an average bus transformation would come out to.
Waiting for episode 3
What size is the mattress? When I build a bus, I’m trying to find out if I can fit a Twin mattress, with a recliner next to it.
So much lost storage. For a full timer or even just the vacationer, that storage would have been nice to have.
When the next video these are good for builders and for ideas to get started with building
very nice
I love how he made stairs to the bed then just never used them at first he always walked in the middle
Gee, Mike, cute that you have a created just enough "girly" bedroom for when Jesse sleeps over! *wink wink* Great convert, though, because you are a EPIC talent!
