    Wonderful. I did a strength session today for around an hour in the gym - deadlifts, weighted squats, leg press, hip-flexor exercises, core sit-ups and some parachute running sprints...and then took to the gravel trail (in the cold and windy west of England) for a 2km WU / followed by 10 x 200m reps at 3k pace with 200m recovery walk/jog between and then / followed by a further 3.6 km at slow/ WD pace. This vlog massively resonates with me, turning 51 in 2 weeks time. Regards.

      Thanks for your comment! I agree this could be the new way to train speed

    Very similar to Klaas Lok's Easy Interval Method.

      Good eye! Dan is actually mentioned in the book Easy Interval Method. One important note is that his cross training days also usually include cardio on elliptical, bike, pool running etc. So he's doing cario nearly every day, just not running

    Thats amazing. I know cross training works for me, I can just do more. What I always wondered is, if it's so effective, why don't more "runners" cross train. I ask runners of all types and very few will bike or swim. Its weird. Time for a paradigm shift? We need more institutions and "pros" to take a risk and see what improvements, if any.

      The specificity of running is always best BUT everyone has a limit to what their system can absorb- this is where extra cross training can create CV benefits without injury risk.

      I'm a "runner", and don't bike or swim regularly simply because I don't have the gear or access to a pool. But there is so much more available than that for cross training, that I enjoy more and isn't so expensive. I hike, lift, do yoga, pilates... tons of cross training, and many of the exercises I got from the pro "runners" who also cross train with lifting and yoga.

      Swimming (and some healthy improvements in the run technique) took me from a 30 min 5k, to under 20min...

      @@Kelly_Ben Those all sound great cross training without being spendy. I bike a'lot (bought used) and recently purchased a smaller sized/used indoor bike (everyone is off loading them cheap after lockdowns). And I'll use it twice a week, especially if I feel something off. And its helped improved my 5k times and 8 mile time. love it.

      @@highseassailor Wow. How long did it take you to improve that much and how many miles per week are you running?

    The world record for the 5000m in the 60-64 age group in 2020 was held by Yoshitsugu Iwanaga at 15.56. Dan King’s time was not even close to a world record. What am I misunderstanding here?

    • @TheRunExperience
      @TheRunExperience  7 місяців тому

      You are right! Very sorry for the confusion. The mile was a world record. All 3 distances were American records.

      @TheRunExperience  7 місяців тому

      The mile record has since been broken by Håkan Eriksson 4:47.69 and Yoshitsugu also holds the 3000m WR 9:21.38. Very sorry again for the mistake
