I know, I realized that after recording this. Too bad. Looks like there may be some other companies with something similar but I don't know anything about them.
So Nick, I have heard about using the sun before. If you are using the sun after your filter, does the vessel containing the water need to be open/vented? Or can it work closed. Also, wondering if I used a filter to remove bacteria, could I also follow up with the tablets to remove viruses?
As far as I'm aware, it doesn't matter whether the vessel is closed or open. In fact, I believe the most effective option is clear tubing since it gives increased surface area exposure, and it would not technically be vented in the middle of the tube. Regarding your second question, yes you can follow up a regular filter with tablets to kill viruses. In fact, with the MSR MiniWorks, they also sell a kit for $10 more that includes the chemical tablets for doing just that. Once again, I'm not a fan of using chemicals, but if it's your only option for not consuming dangerous things, then it's the lesser of two evils, especially if only for a very limited time.
Yes regarding chemicals of anything not made by God I would only use in an area that was suspect. I’m more thinking about; when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains!
I don't have much experience with whole house filters for unsanitary water. Most of these systems are targeting something like hard water (high mineral content), excess iron, etc. Not things like bacteria or protozoa. The main type I can think of for that are UV (ultraviolet) systems with a good filter before the UV unit. I have heard of those being used by some folks with a lake cabin up here who pull their cabin water from the lake. But if your water source is protected and clean, a whole house filter/purifier shouldn't be necessary. The thing I don't like about these whole house systems is they generally are going to require power and pressurized water, without which they won't operate. And that's why in the video I was focusing on options that would be operational in an emergency. But if your home's water source is contaminated and you want all water (including toilets, bathtubs, washer, etc) to be filtered, then a whole house system is your only option. Sorry I don't have more experience with those.
Yes, that's an alternative to bleach as a chemical purification method. I would imagine the taste isn't great but haven't tried it. I'm really not a big fan of chemical treatments and personally would only use one of those options if I didn't have any other route to get drinkable water. And even then, only for short term. That's just me :-).
Thanks. Great options
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching!
I did recommend the Survival Still to a friend a few months ago, and it is no longer available.

What do you recommend for a whole house water filter system for wells or springs?

What about iodine? I imagine it tastes bad.
