Fun Fact: Lemmy played guitar in his first band. During a performance, the bass player didn't show up so Lemmy picked up a bass and learned to play right there.

Mainly a drummer but I also play guitar, bass, keyboard and I am learning heavy vocal styles... I am also gonna build a home studio so I can be a sound engineer as well 😂
Couldn't agree more. I'm a multi-instrumentalist myself, I started playing guitar but I also was really into bass, thanks to punk rock. I'm also a pretty good keyboard player, which I learned by ear from knowing the notes from guitar and bass. I record songs playing all instruments. I truly agree with you, the more instruments you can play, you can really search yourself as a musician.
Hey! This was a well made video. I really enjoyed it! I’m 15 years old, and have played flute for the past 3-4 years. I’ve gotten pretty good at it. I play everything from Bach to Blues improvisation. I just got an electric guitar a week ago and it’s been really fun to play. I also play piano occasionally.
What instruments can you play and what grade are you in all of them or how good are you in all of them? Can you improvise/solo with all of them? Are you self taught?
I’ve been a pianist since I was a kid, so while I know I’m not an expert on that instrument and there’s so much more for me to learn, I’ve recently picked up the banjo and there’s tons of other instruments I’d love to learn. I always thought learning more instruments would both be really cool and very beneficial.
I started playing guitar when I was younger, never got lessons and taught myself but honestly never got particularly good. A few years later, I decided to pick up bass, and I got insanely invested, and by the time I picked up a guitar again I was actually a much more proficient player (which I attribute to the wider frets and thicker strings of the bass increasing my finger strength). I still play bass primarily, but continue to play guitar on the side. I also remember when a mate and I were going to start a band he commented on how it was rare to find someone who could actually specialise in bass proficiently.
I enjoy playing multiple instruments. I hear music in my head all the time and I need to write and play for it to stop. sometimes playing what I hear on one instrument doesn't make it stop. most of the time after an hour or two on the bass or guitar the music stops when it doesn't I just bring out the old trumpet or blow the dust off the Casio keyboard in the corner
Well said! I'm learning guitar AND piano at the same time, with more emphasis on the guitar. I gotta say, I think having the sheet music while I'm learning piano will help me immensely on the guitar. Yes, I know I could learn the guitar with sheet music too, but it seems to make more sense to me on piano. So I get guitar, piano and the ability to read music all at the same time. You can't beat that. And I believe eventually all those lessons, muscle memory and knowledge will eventually roll itself up into a nice musical understanding for an autodidact.
i agree with you =) and would like to add that the "broadening the horizon" aspect also applies for learning different styles of music from different genres and cultures. thanks for the video!
I'm a classically trained flutist, but I also play bass, saxophone, guitar, mandolin, and I also do vocals. These are only the instruments I play very regularly/well (I'm a bassist/writer/vocalist in a band).
Personally, I started out on trumpet, but started taking drum lessons a year later. About a year and a half later, I picked up bass, and another half year or so later, guitar. I'm also trying to teach myself how to do harsh vocals, and can kind of sing while playing bass(though I'm still learning how to do that.) Also, 100 comment!!
@@thatweird_gorla7913 you most likely have started by now, but you don’t just learn everything about an instrument. You always keep learning until the day you die
i myself play 3 instruments , whic are guitar , brač and prima (croatian national instruments and it really improved my hearing and mothorics and gave me speed and strenght in fingers) so i agree with you but still i have couple of friends who play just one instrument and they are very good but i think it really improves us if we play more instruments, it gives us unlimited ideas
there is something that makes it difficult for me to even play guitar... Gas bubbles form in my fingers& they stiffen them..until they've been popped...
100% agree. I started with guitar, now I play bass as well (I found myself in the "we already have guitarists but need bass" situation), I know the basics of piano/keyboard and the only reason why I'm not a drummer yet is that I live in an apartment with my family and they'd kill me if I started playing another loud instrument.
You bring up some pretty good points, but I really don't agree that it's one of the worst thing you can do to stick with one instrument. There's lots of ways you can expand yourself as a musician other than learning how to play other instruments. I'm mainly a bass player (both electric and upright) but i play guitar and drums too, and I can fake other string instruments aswell. I used to study music, and during that time I only focused on playing bass (I quit my bands that i played drums and guitar in). I got a better understanding of how music works in general and despite not practising those other instruments, I got alot better at understanding them. Hell, I can even write parts for instruments I don't k ow how to play. And I still got an instrument that I "specialized" in. I've played with lots of super talented musicians, both multi-instrumentalists and musicians who only focused on one instrument, and I wouldn't say that one is better than the other. It all depends on what you want to achieve. Sorry if I'm unclear, english is a second language (obligatory "sorry for bad english").
I'm 15, as of now I play 4 instruments, (mainly piano, and then ukulele, guitar and kalimba) and I wanna learn to play even more like drums, electric guitar, bass, violin, etc., I wanna be a singer and build my own home studio. All I need is money lmao
I started with piano, and I'm so glad I did because I learned the two main clefts (not alto though... shout out to all my viola players). Though I haven't seriously played in years, it helped massively when I went to violin (which I consider my "main" instrument because it's the one I've put the most time into) and let me be able to play keyboard percussion in band. And when I finally started playing guitar, I can now read music and figure stuff out by ear. So it's all worked out.
My first instrument I learned to play was the saxophone, for the school band, second the Pipe Organ, then the Keyboards and guitar at age 12. Later on learned a little drums and the bass. I would love to learn to play the harmonica or the trombone.
I can practice guitar, learning the bass, and some times messing around with keyboards, maybe back up vocals. I wish I can do drums but I don't have any at home and the music classes near me suck.
Keyboards or Piano are better suited to understand the unavoidable parts of music theory you will need to learn sooner or later...and they have no repeated notes on the same pitch, so it´s more easy to visualize things on them.
Hell yea it's a good thing. I got really good at drums when I was younger, and later moved onto bass geetar, which I am currently trying to progress further with. Definitely has a lot of benefits. If you make your own songs too it helps so much because you get a really, really good sense of how to provide a certain part well, and that results in awesome, complimentary voices.
I think what you said doesn't only work with instruments you could also only play one instrument but be able to record or make album art or a music video that would work too
I’m a drummer. I want to learn guitar but right now I’m focusing on drums sense I started not to long ago. I might try guitar in collage because it’s easier to transport across the country. This video is my mind set behind it. I want to start a band with a friend of mine and we can’t find a guitarist (he’s a bassist)
As of right now I can play piano (only been playing for a year and a half), and learning guitar (been playing for a month and a half). I would someday love to play drums, saxophone, bass, violin, and do some singing, both cleans and harsh (even though I suck at it).
I agree with this. I play multiple instruments and it's very helpful when writing songs. One thing that should be mentioned is how important it is to learn your recording software in and out. You can be a pro musician and then fire up Logic Pro/Garageband/Pro Tools to realize it's like learning a new language or instrument in itself. Knowing how to play music doesn't just magically give you knowledge on how to record properly, mix, master, EQ, etc. Sure you could pay a sound engineer/producer but 90% of musicians can't afford that.
i play guitar not brilliant but i have taken up the ukelele as well and people love it its great for jazzy like tunes and the chords are easier than on guitar
A real man of culture right here finally someone else who says this a lot of people I know are like just master one instrument and that's it a lot of times
To me a bass is the lowest 4 strings on a guitar only one octave lower. A ukulele is the 4 highest strings on a guitar tuned up by 5 frets, because of that all 3 can be played with relatively little issues with memorizing tracks.
Well said and great logical points made . I am a 20 plus year professional drummer. I am also an audio recording engineer, worked in many big studios, Morrisound was one of the best. I got into recording as a career because all of the bands I toured with never wanted to get any serious recordings done., just demos. I am at a cross roads with a similar situation, I have a semi professional recording studio where I have laid out all of the drum tracks and waiting on My guitarist to record his parts. For some reason he has recording anxiety and issues with recording, since it's all exposed if soloed out in the mix. Unfortunately I am literally going no where with this project and it's at a total standstill. I have been debating on whether or not to learn guitar and just record everything myself. I have 2 GUITARS (a 6 string Strat and a 7 string Ibanez ) and a killer LTD bass. After watching this video I not only see this as a sign to just ditch the, I can't find anyone to work with attitude, and I can't play a melody instrument mindset out the door. Thank you for posting this. I am gonna start the process, so I no longer am in this musical roadblock again.
Ooh you worked at Morrisound? Well does your guitarist have stage fright? Some musicians prefer a whole day to theirselves in the studio just so they can get it right without pressure. But if it's that aggravating I'd probably just get the producer or someone to do the parts after a while simply because studio time isn't cheap.
Killbot&GorGorAttack!! He says he wants to have gigs and write bad ass songs but he never shows up for rehearsal nor will he be serious about recording his music. I like his sound and jamming isn't much of problem but he can't structure his material out into full songs. (this is a small side project, just me drumming and him guitaring). He has free studio time, engineering and production but for some reason isn't serious about making his music known to anyone except me and him. It's strange, usually when this type of opportunity comes around musicians are all over it. Plus I know a lot of people in the music and recording industry to help get it out there. There are a number of venues and metal bands ready to add us to a line up opening for them. I have had to let know that this is not going to happen. I even have a bass player and several singers interested. It's a shame. Tonight with him not showing up on a set practice rehearsal night and no communication from him has really inspired me to learn guitar, which I started this afternoon after watching your video about this subject. I am going to thank him for showing me how much I need to learn guitar so I am never in this situation again where I have to count on other musicians. I will just rely on myself and be a total solo musician. Or once I have songs ask a metal drummer friend if he wants to be like Satyricon to write together. Satyr and Frost make an awesome duo.
If he won't show up for rehearsal, practice, or focus on recording then maybe he shouldn't be in a band at the moment. If he's a good producer/manager/whatever maybe he can do that if he absolutely has to be in the picture. I've seen this kind of thing from Glenn Fricker's channel where he talks about lack of dedication and weak links in bands, and I've also seen this type of thing with bands my grandpa was in where the drunk guitarists would always keep the bands he was in down. In my case, I play better with people than by myself so I prefer playing with people, and sometimes finding dedicated and disciplined people who WILL make the rehearsals and practice is a real issue. I suggest looking at SpectreSoundStudios channel for any possible tips on how to keep a band together and tips for the studio (assuming you haven't already).
Killbot&GorGorAttack!! Glen F. I watch his UA-cam regularly. Thanks for advice, tips and replying back so quickly. Keep up the killer videos. They are really fascinating and informative. Talk to you at a later date my metal friend. As Chuck S. of Death Always said ending his concerts, "Keep The Metal Faith Alive!"
i have a keyboard, i want to learn how to play drums, and i specialize in cello, i dont feel like playing the keyboard bc i feel like it's too complicated, plus a drumset is too expensive
john paul jones from led zeppelin is a bassist and keyboardist but can play about 20 instruments i think and he actually wrote the riff for whole lotta love.
I plan guitar bass and drums, I also sing and because of my talent I write almost all the music, but I mostly play bass. I also play trombone, and piano
Hmmm , you are actually right ! i have 2 el - guitars , and one 75w amp , im trying to save money for another ''better'' guitar (well i really whant warlock or V king ) , but i was thinking what you sayed in the video , and im also interested in drums , sooo i think im gona save money for drum set ! :D
The band Theocracy's first album was entirely done by one person, guitar drums bass and all, and it is still one of their best. Great example of what he's talking about.
Toxic holocaust as well. There is also this popular mexican nu metal band in which everyone plays every instrument and they change mid concert all the time
H P Lovecraft was a master of cosmic horror. Which was a marriage of scifi and horror. But he made some great fantasy stories too. Fantasy, horror and scifi complement each other beatifully.
Nice, I was gonna buy one in the guitar model but when I found the bass I had to buy it. The electric I have right now suits me fine but I needed my own bass.
Just my iPad. Then I go into Audacity and compress/limit as needed (sometimes the recorded audio is a little quiet). Other times I'll use the Yeti and it'll be louder/clearer (see also: Getting Into Industrial?)
I was focusing on playing piano and then I heard a really awesome metal song and I wanted to be able to play it on the guitar. Remembered we had one that was gathering dust, so I thought why the hell not. I'm not a professional musicisian by any means and maybe won't become one either but I know that i'll enjoy learning it nevertheless.
hey man! great vid that has left me wondering. Im a guitar and bass player, I will always be a guitar player first and I can play bass too I just don't play it a lot, I have a friend who I have jam sessions with occasionally and he let's me mess around with his kit and I'm OK at it. my question is, should I buy a kit? I want to upgrade my guitar since I don't really enjoy it's quality let's just say. that's the thing that's conflicting with my thinking about this. I'm don't know if I should upgrade my guitar first because I'm a guitar player first, or buy a drum kit to expand what I can play, can you give me some insight? my guitar sounds good with the pedals I have and my amp is small but fine for what I need.
I only specialize in guitar because between school and work, that's the only thing I have time for. I don't have the money for a bass (yet) and I have a drum kit in my basement being neglected. Sad, really.
Do you take lessons for all of these? Or do you teach yourself? Because I'm way too broke to afford lessons for more than one instrument even though I'd love to pick up the electric guitar... And I'm not sure how learning an instrument by yourself really works. Anyways it's amazing that you play these 3 Instruments!
What if you're hampered from playing an instrument by gas bubbles in your fingers? I play the guitar, but I 'm finding that it's very difficult to do so these days? So I SIng
Tony Iommi found a way to play when his fingers got cut off, so it IS possible to still play. The only thing I can think of is wear a glove of some sort. Someone somewhere had the same problem and likely figured it out.

I tried multiple at first. But ever since i have been a band ive focused on my main instrument and its paid off
i have a keyboard, i want to learn how to play drums, and i specialize in cello, i dont feel like playing the keyboard bc i feel like it's too complicated, plus a drumset is too expensive
john paul jones from led zeppelin is a bassist and keyboardist but can play about 20 instruments i think and he actually wrote the riff for whole lotta love.
im learning guitar and ukelele, and i sing, but i want to also learn the keyboard and drums
I plan guitar bass and drums, I also sing and because of my talent I write almost all the music, but I mostly play bass. I also play trombone, and piano
im thinking about learning bass but im worried that it will mess with my classical cello lessons /the way i play it
Check out Wycliffe Gordon, James Morrison or Arturo Sandoval...
they play more instrument on a profound level!
There is also this popular mexican nu metal band in which everyone plays every instrument and they change mid concert all the time
Tame Impala too
Dude, that is the gnarliest bass guitar I've ever seen
Thank you :) it's a Peavey Millenium EXP. 5 knobs, very versatile, and sounds really good.. inexpensive too!
I play Single French Horn in F, Single French Horn in Bb, Double French Horn, Piccolo French Horn in Bb, Mellophone in F, and Marching Bb Horn...
H P Lovecraft was a master of cosmic horror. Which was a marriage of scifi and horror. But he made some great fantasy stories too. Fantasy, horror and scifi complement each other beatifully.
I'm learning drums and wanna learn bass
Shrekkz Dadii bass is a great thing to learn and recommend it.
Do I see a B.C. Rich Warlock bass back there? If so I have one of those as my bass, in a coffin case.
Electric guitar, yes. Does the job for what I play
Nice, I was gonna buy one in the guitar model but when I found the bass I had to buy it. The electric I have right now suits me fine but I needed my own bass.
I wanna learn bass and guitar
I only have two instruments drums and bass i took alot of patience to learn
what do you use to film your videos? the audio quality is really good.
Just my iPad. Then I go into Audacity and compress/limit as needed (sometimes the recorded audio is a little quiet). Other times I'll use the Yeti and it'll be louder/clearer (see also: Getting Into Industrial?)
shavo odadjian was a guitarist
Tony, would playing a different instrument help me play guitar again?
( it's another stringed instrument from greece)
Are you the metal version of Robert Plant?
@ChronoWind the lead singer of led zeppelin
@ChronoWind hah, I assume you're joking, but I'll tell ya anyway... it was a band
@ChronoWind Oh, you were joking, funny joke dude 🤙
Chronowind No idea
I was focusing on playing piano and then I heard a really awesome metal song and I wanted to be able to play it on the guitar. Remembered we had one that was gathering dust, so I thought why the hell not. I'm not a professional musicisian by any means and maybe won't become one either but I know that i'll enjoy learning it nevertheless.
I play mediocre drums, but I can do the bass parts for Angel of Death on clarinet
So true mate.
hey man! great vid that has left me wondering.
Legendary metal from a multi instrumentalist: Burzum
Good metal from a multi instrumentalist: Wintersun
Xasthur, leviathan....
Im learning drums but I do want to learn Bass
Everyone here is in the more modern part of music within bands n stuff then there’s me with my classical viola, violin and piano 😔
scrape that shit
That's perfectly fine, these just make you more special and unique
thanks dude love u.
I have that exact Iron Maiden strap on my bass
I only specialize in guitar because between school and work, that's the only thing I have time for. I don't have the money for a bass (yet) and I have a drum kit in my basement being neglected. Sad, really.
I play violin, ukulele, and guitar. I also do vocals.
I play the piano. I also want to learn drums and guitar. Do you think I can do that?
Absolutely!
id like to learn guitar along with drums but like, i literally cant afford to start a new instrument like the guitar or anything lmao
Was that Back to the future I saw in the background? If it is you're badass
Yup! The region-free UK blu-rays that pummel the American version's packaging to the ground :)
