Well, all I have to say is thanks for the video. There are times when comfort is paramount. We don't have to be uncomfortable just because we want to be sleeping outdoors. I am 75 and this setup is a hell of a lot more comfortable than the set-up I have been using. I enjoy the outdoors but that level of comfort is surely calling to me.
I sleep like a baby in this setup (except the part where I crap my pants). It almost feels like cheating. If you buy all this and use it, let me know how you like it.
I was. Thank you. :-) My total setup is less than $100 and I hike like a real man so I pass out like one too. Comfort is not necessary; well, not for $600 it's not.
The first time you like 20 miles with an extra 10 pounds worth of crap is the last time you like 20 miles with an extra 10 pounds worth of crap and you obviously don't know crap about long hikes
How does a real man hike, ShaGuff? I'm picturing arms a little wide, legs also..and an accentuated side to side lumbering movement. Oh...and a cigar in the corner-o-mouth...don't ferget the bandanna round the head and shoulder strap gun holster.
I am a small dude and I love how a hammock curls up around me and Is not flat I like to use an under quilt and a sleeping bag and a bug net and that's perfect for me nothing else but maybe a pillow. That's comfort
Tavlor Keeler nope! My wife had the great idea of going into mattress warehouse while I ran in GameStop and came out with a $12,000 temperpedic dual adjustments with the dual hocka Hocka’s and the zip twang powies! Could of killed her but now I can’t believe how incredible my sleep is. First week I kept waking up early because I was fully rested.
Wow, thank you for that. Glad it has worked well for you. Many on this video have ridiculed me for reasons unknown to me. I just tried to show them a comfortable way to sleep in a hammock.
@@myadventureoutdoors I don't have the pillow, don't really need it. I'm primarily a canoe camper, so the extra weight is just ballast. Hammock camping from the canoe is so much easier. I don't like other hammocks like the blackbird because I feel trapped in like a spider just captured me for dinner. I do short backpacking trips with it also. Always been interested in the clarks, but this Nemo system makes it like floating on a puffy cloud.
"Some built in pockets for things like phones... guns... bear spray... though I don't really need anything like bear spray." So damn American I love it.
While there are many hammock systems being marketed, I have been extremely happy with my Hennessy Hammock in combination with my Military Sleep System, and a Ridge Rest solar foam pad inside the goretex bivy. Warm and dry and comfortable in some really cold and wet weather. Nice and big, heavy zipper access, and a diagonal lay. Take care stay safe O. P. ( Olde Phart )
After spending a whole day hiking on a trail, a good nights sleep is needed to keep going. Yes it costs money to sleep well, and yes it is a bit weighty. Small sacrifices for quality sleep. Great review, it's a system I will take with me on FT.
Thanks Jeff. I agree, it's a little heavy and a little expensive but when you lay down in the evening it's like you just checked into a luxury motel and it's totally worth it.
Thanks very much. I never knew how many angry hammock experts were out in the world until I made this video. I appreciate the comment and it made me chuckle.
good option for those complaining about being squeezed in the hammocks, which happens even to me if I cannot anchor the hammock high enough to get comfy 30-45 deg. angle (typically if only large rocks are available, above the treeline) - my setup: cheap nylon hammock slided through my old 750g sleeping bag (yes, 2 holes, then sealed) , so there is an air gap, underquilt-style... then I add emergency foil as a heat reflector into the bottom of that outer sleeping bag (that must be large enough) or another sleeping bag for spring/autumn, big one for winter (durable tarp on top, not the lightest possible - you are often touching branches in windy conditions) (summer setup, no tarp - a bit over kilo, add 800g tarp and 1.8kg sleeping bag for heaviest winter setup... of course, you can use any spare cloths/raincoat/etc. under your back or over your feet etc. to increase your efficiency (i.e. survive with lighter sleeping bag , or just the outer one in the 5 deg summer windy morning with no tarp windbreaker on top of the mountain)
Marmot had this system over two decades ago. I purchased several back when Sierra Trading Post had but one store. It accepted a thermarest pad. Nice but made for cold elbows , knee and feet at times. Looked really cool though.
Cool. I will now consider that arrangement when it's time to upgrade my current hammock setup. Especially when i spend almost 13hours some nights in stealth mode inside my hammock evading our indigenous Yowies🤫
Very cool gear choice! I love Nemo gear. I realize I'm 4 yrs late to the party but the Haven Hammock Tent has been invented now and if you like this you'll love that.
with all this craziness going on in actually wanting to try this. I was about to drop a bit on a tent and sleeping bag but thing I'm going to try a hammock even though it's been years since I've been in one. springtime temps are back and it'll be a good time to get outdoors.
Idk about the Clark hammock, but I’ve had the Nemo bag system for awhile now and love it. It’s not the lightest sleep system, but I still go on 15 mile hikes/tent camping with it. I have put some thought about getting a bridge hammock that I could use it in to eliminate cost of a underquilt. My ENO tends to squeeze my shoulders. Then with a bum shoulder I feel a bridge setup would be better for me.
THAT IS THE BIGGEST DRAW-BACK WITH NYLON GATHERED HAMMOCKS--THEY DO NOT STRETCH AND WILL ALWAYS CREATE PRESSURE/PUSH-BACK AGAINST YOUR HEAD/SHOULDER AND FEET WHEN SLEEPING DIAGONAL.
No idea how well it packs up or anything, but it sure looks super comfortable. Not gonna lie, was thinking about taking a nap in that thing before you even mentioned it ;D
Second only to my Blackbird XLC with pad slid in the pad sleeve and my western mountaineering down 50 degree bag used as a top quilt in warm weather, and my military sleep system for colder weather
Looks great. Try the much simpler and faster to set up/break down Helsdon hammock. You can use a closed cell foam pad or other insulating materials and not risk the pad leaking. The comfort comes from the design.
This hammock ($369) is about $200 more than an expensive high quality hammock like the Warbonnet RidgeRunner ($190). And no, it's not the most comfortable hammock either. Tried one - thought it was uncomfortable. But, it depends on how you like to sleep. Most gathered end hammock require you to sleep about 15 degrees off-center on your back. They don't work so well if you like to sleep on your side or stomach. If that's how you sleep, a bridge hammock with spreader bars is what feels the most comfortable. Pimping this hammock as be-all end-all, I think, is a bridge too far and misleads people into believing they need to pay far more than is really necessary to outfit yourself with high quality hammock equipment that works for them.
THAT IS WHY WE HAVE CHOICES. I HAVE BEEN SLEEPING IN HAMMOCKS FOR OVER 45-YEARS AND THERE IS "NO" PERFECT SYSTEM. YOUR WRR SYSTEM EVEN HAS A MAJOR DRAW-BACK--WHEN YOU SLEEP DIAGONAL, THE SIDES OF THE HAMMOCK PUSH-BACK AGAINST YOUR FEET AND SHOULDER/HEAD, CREATING PRESSURE BECAUSE THE NYLON DOES NOT STRETCH LIKE A MAYAN STRING HAMMOCK WILL (MAYAN DRAWBACK--BULKIER AND HEAVIER THAN NYLON). TRIED THEM AND HAVE THEM ALL AND THE BRIDGE-STYLE AND MAYAN WILL ALWAYS WIN IN ACTUAL TESTS--ALL OF MY NYLON HAMMOCKS ARE FOR SALE EXCEPT FOR ONE. THOSE INDIANS HAVE BEEN USING THEM FOR MORE THAN A HUNDRED YEARS. AND WITH THE EDGES FOLDED OVER YOU--NO MISQUITOES, BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT LEARNED HOW TO WALK THROUGH THE HOLES IN THE HAMMOCK--SO YOU DON'T NEED A NET.
I made my own under quilt and made my own as it mattress with slide in . I put Velcro in spots so no sliding. Etc. All under 150 . And I winter camp Everything from Walmart.
Nice setup. A bit much for me, I just use a hammock, sleeping bag, and maybe a tarp for a PeaPod system. Don't even need a pad or a pillow. Don't worry about cars in the background, dogs, or anything else though. We're not here for an Academy Award winning film, we're here to check out gear and methods. :)
Well done and thank you. I just bought a Haven tent hammock and I absolutely love it however it is not military grade like yours. My Haven was $330 and came with the straps the tarp the bug net and the insulated mat. I almost wish I would have seen your video first but I am very happy with my Haven. Happy camping 🤣⛺
Attaching a hammock is really a personal preference. I used extremely strong cordage, not weak at all. I was mainly expressing the comfort of this sleep system in this video. I have other videos where i show how and why I hang a hammock the way I do. Thanks.
Everyone has different needs. If it's best for you doesn't mean it's the best in the world. That said I love my Amok Draumr 3.0 and use it with an Exped Synmat TT or Synmat 7 UL and Hammock gear burrow Topquilt. Now my Warbonnet Blackbird XLC and Ridgerunner are both awesome as well! Clark makes great hammocks and I want the Vertex 2-person Hammock but for the price I will just get another Amok with tarp.
Thank you for posting this video, regardless of what anyone says. While this setup is clearly no small investment, I've watched the video twice already, and it's given me plenty of ideas. In particular, this alerted me to the existence of the Nemo pad/bag combination, which can apparently be rolled up and kept together as one unit! (This is something I've wanted to see in camping equipment for a long time.) I'd be eager to try something like this with Clark's new Mark2, which is designed for double-duty on the ground: that should keep me comfortable just about anywhere.
Thanks for the comment. What I have learned about this video is that the world is full of hammock experts of which I do not claim to be. Just a dude who found something that works for me and I shared my findings. It is expensive but I expect it to last for many years. You could roll them up together but I prefer separately so I can compress them to better fit in my pack. The setup should work great in the Clark since it works so well in mine.

Clarks are nice. Not really great for backpacking but car camping, or glamping? Awesome! I love the pockets underneath for keeping stuff off the ground, and the weather cover helps trap heat in winter.
Tom Hanks for sure.. cool sleep-system but expensive, if the folks commenting are stating the correct prices, wow. i use the DD Travel Hammock & Karrimor fold-up mat, travel pillow, German army blanket/liner, a space blanket & inexpensive tarp.
Nice video, I think the waterproof foot well is so you can stand up to get in the sleeping bag then get into the hammock. I use DD ultralight with an under quilt and a DD Jura2 sleeping bag for winter and a DD quilt for summer minus the under blanket. The DD dura2 also has the waterproof foot well but it has a central zipper which makes it easier to use in a hammock. I kept thinking you were going to say "life is like a box of chocolates" at any moment!!! Greetings from England 🇬🇧
awesome. thank you! how much does this weight ? could you show how much space all equipment takes ? do you have a video about that mosquito net and the tent part over hammock and ropes ? (sorry i dont know the right terminology).
Looks good, but most hammocks you lay at a bit of an angle (to avoid the banana shape) Doesn't look like your set up allows that but it also looks like it lays flatter than most, is it designed to lay flatter without being at an angle?
A sweet set-up. Couple of questions. What sort of cost are we talking? Do they do darker colours, greens/browns? How strong are they? I'm no light weight. Cheers buddy......
Not cheap. I think the Cosmo Pad was around $125? The bag was over $300 but worth it in my opinion. The Clark Jungle Hammock was a bit over $300 if I remember but it's large enough and strong enough to hold a large person.
Looks very comfortable... May have to try it out on next backpacking trip in the Yukon. Never slept in a hammock tent before, looks like it could be fun. I always wondered if you would fall out when spinning around during the night.
That's a lot of stuff 👍. Looks way more comfy than the set up I use. Man I swear, my boney ass is always gettin cold!!! I just can't seem to give up all my granddad's old gear... too much sentimental value I guess.
I just take a bottle of whiskey per night and sleep naked in the dirt .
HOLY SHIT!! IM GOING TO BIG BEND! AND THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT IDEA!
Why not both🤔🤤🤘🏽
Why's that ,Dan ? All the park benches taken ?
Bacardi 151. Coca Cola optional.
Thats fine until the dirt turns to mud with piss and shit

@denise starr In the summer months, for sure you dont need an UQ. But in Winter, its a must, even on this Hammock.
Your video makes me want to have a sleep right now! In a good way :) - love the Nemo Fillo Pillow! can't stop saying it.
Sounds like a salesman and not a backpacker.
Not a salesman, just making a video of the things I like.

Still sounds like it

Not even close but it certainly is up there...along with the weight.

The DD dura2 also has the waterproof foot well but it has a central zipper which makes it easier to use in a hammock. I kept thinking you were going to say "life is like a box of chocolates" at any moment!!! Greetings from England 🇬🇧
Thanks for watching & commenting. A lot of people say I do sound like Tom Hanks, LOL
awesome. thank you! how much does this weight ? could you show how much space all equipment takes ? do you have a video about that mosquito net and the tent part over hammock and ropes ? (sorry i dont know the right terminology).
Damn! That looks very warm and comfy! That set up in the woods on a chilly Fall day, I'd nap for hours!
It feels like I'm cheating in the woods. It's really great. Thank you for your comments.
want to go camping now
Do it.
I wish I had taken my heart meds, I ended up in the ER after watching this video.
U make me sick of all that comfort kudos to you I like it now you make me want to get one
Adventure Outdoors Thanks very much for getting back to me. Looks like it's worth every penny. Good video. Thanks again....
Does the $725 estimate include the Tarp?
Looks very comfortable...
May have to try it out on next backpacking trip in the Yukon.
Never slept in a hammock tent before, looks like it could be fun.
I always wondered if you would fall out when spinning around during the night.
This guy is hilarious lmao
PrimaLoft is a synthetic version of Down, but it's still warm when wet and doesn't mat up..... It takes very thin layer to keep warm.
10-4 on that.
That's a lot of stuff 👍. Looks way more comfy than the set up I use. Man I swear, my boney ass is always gettin cold!!! I just can't seem to give up all my granddad's old gear... too much sentimental value I guess.
