@almur88 by that I remembered that diamine chocolate brown the only brown ink I was interested in is unfortunately the only ink not available in my country all other diamine inks are available except the one I could afford and want 😞
Iroshizuku Tsuki-Yo is awesome and a favorite of mine. But Diamine Prussian Blue, Pelikan Edlestein Tanzanite, and Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black are my top Blues. I also enjoy Private Reserve D.C. Supershow Blue as well if I want something with more pop.
Waterman Serenity Blue is a pretty standard blue that every once in a while has a slight red sheen. It has a special place in my heart as my first fountain pen ink.
A couple others to add to the please consider list: Pilot Iroshizuku aka-iro and Monteverde Horizon Blue. The latter is a nice deep, but not blue-black, blue while the former is the wonderful warm blue of a cloudless sky. One is a more serious and proper blue while the other a casual friendly blue. Both great.
Good assortment of blue inks! I think the Pilot Iroshizuku tsuki-yo and the Sailor Manyo Kikyou (similar) are among my top favorite blues that I use regularly.
Noodler’s Blue Upon the Plains of Abraham definitely a nice blurple. Debating whether to try when I get a chance :) I've also been wanting to try out tsuki-yo too.
I'm so happy with the large amount of blue inks available! My heart is set on Waterman Mysterious Blue, but I also love the Fog Grey you brought up and the Diamine Oxford Blue. Its nice to get the blues!
I use the DeAtraments Blue document ink, at least 2 of my pens are alwyas inked up with it, Another good one is the standard Lamy blue that comes standard with their fountain pens,
BSB lives in my edc, and I usually just use whatever cheap paper is around: backs of financial statements, political ads, appeals for money from charities, etc. It doesn't give me any trouble, honestly, though its reputation is astonishing.
@@judyjacobs5827 it means you have great stationery in your country overall. Or a very fine nib for that matter. I use clairfontaine paper 90gsm and Waterman hemisphere pen and it's barely acceptable, other combinations are just impossible.
@@samsowden yes, thanks. I tried different ratios 70/30, 60/40, 50/50 of adding water but it loses its vibrancy and starts having shading. I love NBB for the absence thereof, so I guess I'll have to try 120 gsm one day
My blue ink of choice (from Goulet, of course) is Sailor Manyo Kikyou. The color reminds me of blue jeans: blue with a touch of grey and without being purple-ish. I always have my vintage Parker 51 inked up with it, and it works beautifully - flow is great and it cleans nicely from the (restored) aeromatic fill mechanism.
What happened to our great friend who worked so well and so full of humour, fun and personality ? He suddenly disappeared a few weeks ago from employment at Goulet’s pen company. Great personality.

One Noodler's ink that's very underrated though (and so far that's not concerned by feathering issues) is Noodler's Blue. By the name it seems like a boring colour but it is such a nice blue. But come on at 3:32 typical Noodler's feathering on some of their water resistant ink (and no, it's not only a paper issue). Noodler's really must do something about dosing surfactant, the issue of some of their inks being too wet / inconsistent across their line has been raised for years.
Ink Gods have answered my call. Noodler's Blue Upon the Plains of Abraham was the One that Got Away for me, when I first got into fountain pens. I purchased a sample vial, along with my Pilot Metropolitan at WonderPens. When I swung by a week later, the 3 oz bottles were sold out, and forced me with 3 sample vials, and an ink well. I actually spoke to the last person who purchased the last remaining half bottle, which my sample vial ink comes from at Scriptus in Toronto, Canada this year, only 2 weeks ago. I am about to use up my last vial, btw. Brian, how does this new iteration shade compare to earlier versions, particularly the 3rd version that is currently inked in my pen? Also, what are your thoughts of the new Noodler's Blue Upon the Plains of Abraham?
I think my favorite "regular" blue is Sailor Manyo Kikyo. All of my other blues (Colorverse NASA, Organic Studios Walden Pond, Endless Alchemy Candy Sea) have a red/purple, so they don't count for this. Birmingham has some interesting blues as well though.
Diamine Oxford Blue is an old favorite of mine; but, lately I have started using Monteverde Blue Skies more and more(I think it's a Goulet Exclusive.). It's a great ink both in color and in smooth flow and wetness. TWSBI Blue/Black is very nice ink; it just smells REALLY bad/chemical odor. Pew. Tsuki-Yo is beautiful ink.
can you guys do a feature on thicker pens? after a car accident my hands don't work the same. they recommended fatter pens or putting foam tubing over existing pens. I tried the tubing and don't like it so... aw shucks... gotta buy a new pen 🤷
I am not a fan of blue inks, because at school we used exclusively royal blue ink cartridges with fountain pens. As a result I find most blue colours that are anywhere near royal blue quite boring now. I like some teals, turquoise and grey-blue inks, but avoid the "boring blue" shades when possible.

I love this color but my last two bottles have been feathering for some reason. I've been on a quest to find a different brands equivalent but they have all fallen short.
My personal Fave ? Diamine Oxford Blue The "Barry White Voice of Blue Inks !" OK, just because I live walking distance to Diamine (welllllll a bloody long but local walk) and My FAVE FAVE FAVE Colour is Blue, then just don't assume that I'm tainted..... And despite them having only elements of Blue, I also love and adore..... Diamine Enchanted Ocean (unless you own this, then the enchantment has not yet commenced...) Diamine Aurora Borealis (deep, deep shame upon Diamine for their DRABORE Realis display of this stunning ink on their own webshite !") And OK not even a hint of Blues-icity.... Diamine Ochre (it has a real luuuuurve thang going with My Kaweco Sport Navy and its Medium nib.... )
Blue is such a conventional, corporate color. So no blues for me. With that rule in place, I've limited the blue family to only about half the bottles of ink on my shelf! What good is a rule without exceptions? Same with black, I avoid that too, so it's only about half the rest of them.
I love Noodler’s Liberty’s Elysium. It is a vibrant very water resistant ink. It is similar to the rich blue of Pilot Iroshizuku Asa-gao, another great ink. Thanks for the videos, Brian
Really hate to be that one guy commenting about this. My friend also into pens did search and rescue operations for the US coast guard and saw some gnarly unforgettable scenes. Thumbnail didn’t put him in a good mood long story short.
Man, blue ink, I loath. All my boring school teachers only allowed blue ink regular pens on when writing. But when I saw the once upon the fields of Abraham. It was love at first sight since it was a dark ink. Managed to find it from a local store, which surprised me since i am in NJ. Have yet to open it. The smokey ink looks good. Guess will be second blue in collection of inks.
I'd argue only one of the inks on this list was actually blue, but that probably says more about the atrocious way in which we label colours, especially in the English language.
We need similar videos for other colours like a playlist
@@Carbon.Organic_Emperor12 yes, starting with brown, they all seem to dry in the pen for some reason. J. Herbin cacao and diamine ochre among others

Leaving out Watermans was strange, although I got their Mysterious Blue and like it...

Lamy and Waterman Blue is probably the two most used blue I would think.
@a22lotti they should add it
Love love love tsuki-yo! I've also been enjoying the PR Infinity Turquoise - really gorgeous shading on that one.

Brilliant video.
I'm intrigued with the Noodlers Blue Upon the Plains Of Abraham.
Is it a shimmer. It is difficult to find.
Noodler's Luxury Blue is probably my favourite.

Noodler's Baystate Blue would be unbeatable if only someone invented paper for it not to bleed through. even 100 gsm can't hold it in place.
if you water it down a little bit, it keeps almost all of the vibrancy and becomes a lot better behaved

Asa-gao is my safest option for every new pen to try. Maybe it's boring but reliable and flows good both in dry pens and wet pens
