  • In this video, I discuss how Police recruiters can leverage social media to uncover the true motivations of future law enforcement applicants.
Whether it's the desire for authority and power symbolized by a badge which is a true concern, the allure of carrying a gun, or a genuine passion for making a positive impact on the community, social media provides valuable insights into what drives individuals to pursue a career in law enforcement.
By analyzing candidates' online presence, Police recruiters can gain a deeper understanding of their aspirations, values, and potential fit within the department. But recruiters can take it a step further by analyzing those they may be connected with.
If a future Police recruit only likes or interacts with posts which showcase firearms, use of force equipment, and the 'rush' of high risk calls usually handled by specialized units such as the SWAT team or Emergency Task Force, but they never interact with posts where Police are interacting with the community showcasing community engagement, did that person subconsciously reveal what's important to them?
This information can ultimately help recruiters make more informed decisions when selecting candidates who are not only qualified but also genuinely committed to serving and protecting the community.
We explore the power of social media in revealing the true motivations of aspiring law enforcement officers and learn how this knowledge can shape the recruitment process for the better.

You go outside . You seek for people who need your help
    You make their lives better.
Being police officer You become that sponge which can absorb all the negativity, and you become that person who can emit beautiful positive vibes, and when you realize that you have changed someone's life and because of you as police officers

Another great video Randy! I wanted to be a police officer for community engagement. I'd met many officers who were always kind and never abused their authority. I think I've commented on most of your posts, even the ones on guns. But I especially loved seeing your community engagement with the safe walk campaign. I know that area and it used to be very rough. Your interactions with the kids are priceless! Thank you for being the officer that you were.

This is really good. Question about police recruitment: is there a volunteer component required-for example, volunteering in a community org working with vulnerable communities or social services organizations? I follow The Hub (a Hamilton org working with high risk youth) on SM and they posted about police students volunteering with them. I just thought it would be a valuable part of a police student’s education so wondered if TPS had those expectations. Thx

That is very interesting. Thank you for your videos.
I have actually noticed police post less on social media especially on LinkedIn and on Twitter (X). Before joining the police I want to get to know officers of that particular service if possible. The only problem is I seem to be stuck in areas with the RCMP but I don’t want to join their force. I want to focus on municipalities. I have already ruled the RCMP out from how they treat female officers.
My motivations for joining police services would be helping out in the community especially with the neurodiverse population which currently there’s no organization for in Canada. There’s an autistic officers organization in the UK who I follow on Twitter which I find helpful. I also want to teach municipalities about autistic people. I was originally going to keep it for services in Ontario but since then have figured out CPS needs help as well. Not in a bad way, just makes my job harder. Not sure when I will run the event, yet I know I won’t be the one to advertise it. Get someone else to do that, who can do it in the right way. Don’t want to send the wrong message to officers.
Oh, another reason I want to become part of police is that I am curious to understand how the process works from the inside-out. I have been curious about this for a couple years. Even though it hasn’t been a good time to apply for various reasons my thoughts on this haven’t changed.

Another awesome post officer! From your experience and perspective, do those who got in through the imperfections of the recruitment process or for the wrong motives quit earlier? I’m asking because sooner or later you realize this is not the right career for you, what do you think? Thank you!

    • @OfficerArsenault
      @OfficerArsenault  8 місяців тому +3

That’s a great question. Some Cops will hate me for saying this, but my answer would be no, they don’t quit earlier. Mainly because there’s too many people who also got on for the wrong reason and it’s almost as if they feel at home there. It’s like they’re able to find others just like them and it’s not a good mix.
I appreciate you asking and for the compliments 🙏🏼

Is this intended to help those who might otherwise be excluded for their involvement being exclusively with the high-octane posts? I have concerns this may be grooming for a false positive response for the otherwise incompatiable applicants.

Not too sure, in all honesty, how much emphasis should be placed on people's (private) online remarks. People can say different things at different times. Performance is what matters. Why turn away valuable candidates without VERY compelling reason? We had one officer here in US I believe who worked the late shift. He posted that it was time to go round up the zoo animals. He was fired for that, and yet, have we not seen people jumping up and down on police cars etc. etc. etc. Let's be real. Stop being politically correct and ruining the lives of decent cops just because they speak some hard TRUTHS.
