I've been listening to black metal for almost 12 years, started out with the typical norwegian bands and I've pretty much explored every single corner the genre has to offer. From the more easy listening symphonic bands, to the more complex, progressive ones. From the rawest, most hateful antichristian bands to the hypnotizing atmospheric ones. And yet I still come back to this particular song from time to time, it has something powerful that I can't quite put into words. It gives that mystic, evil, yet depressive feeling this particular style of black metal is known for. Not just plain, mindless blasting like most people think of the genre as.
I'm 40 and I have been listening to Black Metal for almost 25 years and I agree. No matter how good the new bands are or new takes on the genre, I always find myself revisiting the classics from Bathory, Emperor, Burzum, Mayhem and Darkthrone. The classics simply cannot be beat.

The first time I saw this video was in '97 on "EL HUEVO", a pub bar in Valparaíso (Chile). There was a huge screen on mute, and they were playing some other music (I can't recall it right now). As it progress the video I could recognize Samoth and Ihsahn, but I wasn't completely sure that THAT was an EMPEROR video. It was broadcast on MTV Latin America and the credits appears at the end of the video, only then I realized that I' ve just watch one of the first black metal videos on mute while listening some other crappy music. Obviously I was in that pub bar invited for a girl I liked at the time.

Anthem is such a Fantastic release. I remember hating it a few years before i was able to stomach it as not a follow up to Nightside. Both are what i consider as BM Super Albums. Both aged Very well.
