A customer in Japan taught us a phrase using 'meshi'. To refer to a very easy tasks just use 朝 飯 前 (asa meshi mae), literally "before breakfast", but when referring to a task means something like "it's so easy I can finish it before breakfast." I don't know if it's a common phrase, but we all had a lot of fun with it. 🙂

Something I've observed is that slice of life, honestly, doesn't seem like a terrible way to pick up some elements of the language, as long as you take it with a massive grain of salt and put it in context. The problems happen when you try to use shounen to learn the language 😄

Though "arigato" was really the first word I learned, their first word was "baka". Glad to see it as number one on your list! (edit) I have heard "daijoubu" (or I think it was that) used towards another person and I kinda thought it meant "are you ok?" the way it seemed to be used. I didn't mean to listen in to other peoples conversation while I visited Japan, but it was great to hear it first hand and in everyday situations. thats just the informal volitional form, ironically called 意向形 （いこうけい) in Japanese. Its used all the time, she literally uses it in this video when talking about meshi, 食べよう

It doesn't mean anything specific, it's kind of a few words mashed together to sound really emphatic. だ is like the casual way of saying です which is the polite copula used to end clauses which don't end in a verb. ってば is like a casual way of saying "of course" or "you should already know by now" or something to that effect, and it can also be used to indicate that someone is being forceful or expressing a feeling of annoyance that's intended to make the listener do what the speaker is asking. よ is a particle used to place emphasis on what's being said, so when you put it all together, you get だってばよ. I guess the closest English translation is something like "so that's the way it is!" or "so there!". Honestly, the "believe it" translation from the English dub isn't too far off from the feeling だってばよ evokes. He's just putting emphasis on the statement he's making.
Mochi Sensei explained this too me. If I can remember correctly. ‘Gohan’ means meal. For example. Breakfast = asa gohan. Using gohan to refer to rice is only used when it’s a full meal that has rice as a part of it. Rice on its own is something else. But I can’t remember what it is 🙈

I took a class at the local University on 3D graphics using PictureMaker and an IBM with an attached video processor box. We used a puck to plot points and made wireframe models that we stored on 3 1/2" floppy disks storing 1.44MB each. It took about an hour to render one Phong shaded image that we could then make an BMP image of to use as a frame of video in our project. It was a painstakingly slow and laborious process. As already stated I was a fan of The Last Starfighter. Of course I also loved Battlestar Galactica (the original one from the 70's), and the first few Star Wars movies had come out. Needless to say my project was a space battle. I had made my spaceships and had a background where they flew up from a planet the trailing ship blasting little missiles at the lead ship. It was awesome! Then in the final week of class some idiot typed Format c: on the main computer while attempting to format a floppy. GONE! All gone. We got still slides made from what we had on our floppies. Anyway, yeah, I was born in the wrong era. Now you guys have Blender which is hundreds of times more powerful than the software I was using, and your dang smartphone has a better graphics processor than what I was trying to render images on. That image renderer costs thousands of dollars. It was the most expensive piece of equipment in the computer lab. Today it would make a good door stop.

My profile picture was chosen because of what I believe around 7 years ago, about who I am. I was sure ðat I have ðe hedgehog's dillema, and am still unsure if it's not ðe case, after 7 years. I do love animation, but my interest and enþusiasm for it got more or less twharted because of ðe diagnosis I got during ðe pre army service check ups and ðe diagnose I got. It was a 1-3 minute diagnosis, and ðe only reason I got freed from ðe mandatory army service was because of what I assume was ðe general. He looked at me once, saw ðat I'm miserable as is, because of how my body language told him about what I've been þrough, and said what at ðe moment, felt like "dismissed", but since ðe word meant boþ "dissmissed" and "you are free", I realized what he meant. Ðe diagnosis was Schizotypal Personality Disorder, and unfortunately, my mom didn't understand ðat it was a fake diagnosis done in minutes, and believed it cuz she's too gullible to suspect people in ðe positions of power. So since I listen to her, even if I have a bad relationship wið her, she decided to bring me somewhere to heal me based on ðat diagnosis. I was doubting it. I þought it would negatively influence me if I take ðe psychoþeraputic pills, but I still took ðem cuz of peer pressure. And my worries were completely valid. for ðe last 3 to 4 years ðat I was taking pills, my cognitive functions felt like a rock, I have no mental flexibility. Ðe pills did not help me wið anyþing whatsoever, and only handicapped my cognitive capabilities, which right now makes me feel as if my mental flexibility is under a lock or someþing. And it was during ðat time ðat my interest for Animation was twharted. Doing anyþing mentally tense or stressful for more ðan 30 to 60 minutes, makes my head burn and hurt, which is unnaccaptable, since ðe average human does ðis as easy as breaðing air. My critical þinking hasn't been touched, but it more has to do wið my mind maturing over ðe years, but ðe influence of ðe pills made my sensitivity and impulsiveness worse. I keep trying to tell ðis almost every monþ to my mom, but she doesn't do anyþing about it, even ðough she looks like she's þinking hard about it when I complain to her. At ðis point, I concluded ðat what looks to be her, þinking hard about my worries, is actually just her taking in more negativity and pessimistically stressing over it just to drown herself in more stress, since she has ðat type of personality. Ðat's basically how I got here, and my abilities did improve, but my family is a mess XD If I had to say why I liked animation before, was because of my overall interest in fiction, which I still have, and is why I use, for example, Eth and Thorn, because language is an important part of fiction and story-telling, so I naturally am interested in most þings in life. Gotta see how my life goes, really. A lot of minor þings between us in ðe family snowball into making me lose motivation to become a better person, and at ðis point, it's just a hell-hole. I don't have a faðer, my moðer doesn't understand ðat I'm a male, and so I became more sensitive and aggressive towards my family in terms of arguments, which destroyed my motivation to become better.
丈夫 means healþy so you can take your guesses from ðat. A lot of Japanese words developed based on association. Originally, 様probably only meant likeness or ðe way someone looks, but since it was used to also describe describe beautiful and strong people, ðey naturally attached a meaning of respect to it. So 丈夫 could easily be interpreted as "A husband is usually healþy" so ðe word 丈夫 started to mean healþy as well.

未来 (mirai) is a word I hear a lot in Japanese and and songs. It was probably one of the first kanji words I learned because I saw it so much.

It's not ðat common in Anime. Ðe only time I recognized it was in Sekiro, and ðat's not even an Anime.

Also I often confuse #21 kawaii "pretty, cute, adorable" with kowhai 怖い "scary". I guess scary E's are cute. 😼

I also noticed that you are into 3D and using SFM. 😮💨You sound like me when I was young. I was really born to early. I have always been a fan of animation. I wanted to make animated films. I can't draw, but I did learn to do computers and filming, I know about multiplane cameras and all that. My wife is the artist. We made a few traditional animated clips when we were young on 35mm film. When I graduated from high school we were still using a teletype printer that was connected to a WAN for the public school system, OTIS, as an intranet connecting colleges etc. The internet didn't exist yet and things connected with modems. We would play text based games on it. My very first computer I bought was an IBM 386 DX with SVGA graphics 8MB of RAM and a 40MB HD with a 9-pin dot matrix printer for $2,600 in 1990 It ran DOS 6.0 and Windows 3.1. You can pity me now. I took an interest in 3D graphics after seeing TRON and The Last Starfighter. Back then it was mainly Video Toaster on the Amiga. I took a class at the local University on 3D graphics using PictureMaker and an IBM with an attached video processor box. We used a puck to plot points and made wireframe models that we stored on 3 1/2" floppy disks storing 1.44MB each. It took about an hour to render one Phong shaded image that we could then make an BMP image of to use as a frame of video in our project. It was a painstakingly slow and laborious process. As already stated I was a fan of The Last Starfighter. Of course I also loved Battlestar Galactica (the original one from the 70's), and the first few Star Wars movies had come out. Needless to say my project was a space battle. I had made my spaceships and had a background where they flew up from a planet the trailing ship blasting little missiles at the lead ship. It was awesome! Then in the final week of class some idiot typed Format c: on the main computer while attempting to format a floppy. GONE! All gone. We got still slides made from what we had on our floppies. Anyway, yeah, I was born in the wrong era. Now you guys have Blender which is hundreds of times more powerful than the software I was using, and your dang smartphone has a better graphics processor than what I was trying to render images on. That image renderer costs thousands of dollars. It was the most expensive piece of equipment in the computer lab. Today it would make a good door stop.

My profile picture was chosen because of what I believe around 7 years ago, about who I am. I was sure ðat I have ðe hedgehog's dillema, and am still unsure if it's not ðe case, after 7 years.
I do love animation, but my interest and enþusiasm for it got more or less twharted because of ðe diagnosis I got during ðe pre army service check ups and ðe diagnose I got. It was a 1-3 minute diagnosis, and ðe only reason I got freed from ðe mandatory army service was because of what I assume was ðe general. He looked at me once, saw ðat I'm miserable as is, because of how my body language told him about what I've been þrough, and said what at ðe moment, felt like "dismissed", but since ðe word meant boþ "dissmissed" and "you are free", I realized what he meant.
Ðe diagnosis was Schizotypal Personality Disorder, and unfortunately, my mom didn't understand ðat it was a fake diagnosis done in minutes, and believed it cuz she's too gullible to suspect people in ðe positions of power. So since I listen to her, even if I have a bad relationship wið her, she decided to bring me somewhere to heal me based on ðat diagnosis. I was doubting it. I þought it would negatively influence me if I take ðe psychoþeraputic pills, but I still took ðem cuz of peer pressure. And my worries were completely valid. for ðe last 3 to 4 years ðat I was taking pills, my cognitive functions felt like a rock, I have no mental flexibility. Ðe pills did not help me wið anyþing whatsoever, and only handicapped my cognitive capabilities, which right now makes me feel as if my mental flexibility is under a lock or someþing. And it was during ðat time ðat my interest for Animation was twharted. Doing anyþing mentally tense or stressful for more ðan 30 to 60 minutes, makes my head burn and hurt, which is unnaccaptable, since ðe average human does ðis as easy as breaðing air.
My critical þinking hasn't been touched, but it more has to do wið my mind maturing over ðe years, but ðe influence of ðe pills made my sensitivity and impulsiveness worse.
I keep trying to tell ðis almost every monþ to my mom, but she doesn't do anyþing about it, even ðough she looks like she's þinking hard about it when I complain to her. At ðis point, I concluded ðat what looks to be her, þinking hard about my worries, is actually just her taking in more negativity and pessimistically stressing over it just to drown herself in more stress, since she has ðat type of personality.
Ðat's basically how I got here, and my abilities did improve, but my family is a mess XD If I had to say why I liked animation before, was because of my overall interest in fiction, which I still have, and is why I use, for example, Eth and Thorn, because language is an important part of fiction and story-telling, so I naturally am interested in most þings in life. Gotta see how my life goes, really. A lot of minor þings between us in ðe family snowball into making me lose motivation to become a better person, and at ðis point, it's just a hell-hole. I don't have a faðer, my moðer doesn't understand ðat I'm a male, and so I became more sensitive and aggressive towards my family in terms of arguments, which destroyed my motivation to become better.

丈夫 means healþy so you can take your guesses from ðat.
A lot of Japanese words developed based on association. Originally, 様probably only meant likeness or ðe way someone looks, but since it was used to also describe describe beautiful and strong people, ðey naturally attached a meaning of respect to it. So 丈夫 could easily be interpreted as "A husband is usually healþy" so ðe word 丈夫 started to mean healþy as well.
