- The 80-year-old isn't slowing down; in fact, he's been busier than ever, with two TV series (including the "Yellowstone" prequel "1923"), and a fifth Indiana Jones movie. Harrison Ford talks with Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz about playing "ordinary" people; fame and the loss of anonymity; and the attraction of returning to his home in Wyoming.

“I like my job.” Simple, straightforward and succinct Harrison Ford encapsulated.
"It is not privacy. It is anonymity. I want to watch people. And they are watching me." Perfect.
I've always admired his down to earth nature
Harrison is a gem. So glad they sent Ben to interview him. Ben's passion for the movies is palpable. I miss Robert Osborne, but he has been a worthy successor, and not just because of his family connections.
What a difference a great interviewer makes. I've rarely seen/heard Ford so engaged and heartfelt in an interview. He's actually interested in answering the questions!
Agreed Miranda
Did you know that his father was the Frank Mankiewicz who worked for Robert Kennedy? I remember him well!
@@patwooster3851 And his uncle directed (and wrote or co-wrote?) "All About Eve" which was a record breaking film at the Oscars and is a Top 20 or Top 10 film of all time.
What a wonderful interview! I've Always Loved Mr Ford's talent and the fantastic characters he portrays.
I have always loved Harrison Ford. He's a great actor and very handsome.
I'm so glad Harrison still loves his job. He is one of the best there is.
I am a huge fan of Harrison Ford. I appreciate the things he does for Hollywood. I have loved Indiana Jones & Star Wars, including his other movies. I would love to meet him one day.❤
80 years old, blimey time flies. Scary. But the legend has fit 100 peoples lives into those 80 years and his still going.
Being a young teenager in the 90’s and seeing the Fugative for the first time was incredible..a defining movie growing up…then i saw Clear and Present Danger
I liked the Fugitive as well. Great cast. Still his work in Star Wars and Indiana Jones is what he will be remembered for.
What I like about Harrison is who he is when he's not acting, but he's also the greatest actor of his time! Blessings to you Harrison may you continue to keep on doing what you love for years to come!
One of the best
@@marvinhagler4721 THE GREATEST
@@moviefan8533 He was.....PEACE
1923 is an amazing series. Taylor Sheridan is a wonderful writer and Harrison Ford and Helen Mitren together are "perfect" together. (Sorry David) "Audacious and bold" story is a great description of the series. Thanks for this interview.
5 Star Wars movies, 5 Indiana Jones movies, 2 Jack Ryan movies, The Fugitive, Air Force One...the list goes on. Even in small dramas like Extraordinary Measures with Ford and Brendan Fraser, he is incredible.
Harrison Ford, class act.
I believe his is afraid to get tired. Love Harrison Ford and my Wyoming.
Harrison is the real deal, folks.
At 80 and STILL makin' it happen!?
Wow.
Bless him...
I know. He has multiple projects going on when clearly he could hang up his hat (literally) and take it easy. That is some hardcore work ethic.
He looks fantastic ❤
Literally just watched Raider’s of the Lost Ark yesterday👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Legend 🙏🏽✨✨✨ my childhood bests all Indie movies 🎥
Dang, you cute!
Fifth Indy looks absolutely prime -- cheers to Harrison Ford
Love 1923… very realistic… great actors
He should get the Kennedy center honors for his contributions to Motion Pictures and lifetime achievement in the culture of the world. He’s richly deserves it.
AGREE AGREE and AGREE!
Are you kidding me? They've probably asked him a dozen times already.
I'm sure they have already asked. And if not, I'm sure it's coming. But you have to remember, alot of actors have to agree to things as well. This could have happened a decade ago and he said no.
@@geneticfreak2411 and those who says thanks but no thanks realize it’s ridiculous. Ford has never had a lot of DEPTH as an actor but he carved out a great niche and we have thoroughly enjoyed all his work!
@@geneticfreak2411 Well....giving it to George Clooney was absurd...
I am a carpenter and I admire him too much
Hi Bob!
So you love working with wood, in the morning?
Excellent segment.
We like your job and we like you doing it and seeing the results .
Harrison Ford is the best. He’s awesome in Shrinking.
Just adore Harrison Ford
I think what has kept Harrison grounded is that he was 35 when he got Star Wars. He wasn't young. He was older than the directors George Lucas, and Indy director Steven Spielberg. Plus he had already been a journeyman tradesman, so he knew what it was like to work a blue collar job.
Great segment. Wish it would have been longer!
Super cool guy. What you see is what you get with him. I watched him carry a bag up two flights of stairs for a fellow passenger while he was traveling years ago. Humble man.
Great interview. Bob Mankiewicz did a great job and I bet Mr. Ford appreciated it.
What he said to the executive as a young actor was kinda legendary making. “I thought your were suppose to think he was a GROCERY DELIVER BOY”
HF seems much more open in his golden years.
He seems a lot happier here than in recent years. And he looks great!
Its exciting to see him in his element. In any other interview I've seen, he seems uncomfortable, on the edge of annoyed. This one was so refreshing! Very cool guy!💗👍
Fell in love with him as Hans Solo...he is a great like Sean Connery, Charlton Heston.
I still love the movie, “Henry”, along with several of your other movies, Mr. Ford.
Im 22 and Ill watch him
The horse part showed but for all I know he's fluent in Spanish.
He and Mirren really bring something special to an already exceptional show.
I love Harrison Ford’s movie❤
Legend. Hollywood greats of our time.
Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Tom Clancy's Jack P. Ryan, nuff said about Harrison Ford's acting career.
Without George Lucas would he have had the same career? Probably not.
I was surprised by how moved I was by this interview. I'm of the age group that first saw Harrison Ford on the big screen in 1977 as Han Solo, and have been a huge fan ever since. Besides Han, Indy and Deckard are my favorites of his.
I live in Los Angeles and have interacted with my share of celebs (by reaction only) and have shared space with Mr. Ford also. It seems like celebrities are in a predicament of wanting to be adored and being left alone.
Anyway, I do appreciate this man and his work. Also, Han did shoot first and deserved a better ending!
Good quote ‘Actors are good at lying’ on and off screen
Amazing actor and human 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Yes, he's Han Solo and Indiana Jones, but Witness, Frantic, and The Fugitive are great thrillers as well.
Wonderful piece. Ford is my hero.
Uff Ben gets to rub shoulders with legends.
But his daddy was a big shot!
A stage hand
American Graffiti And that was it
Thank you Harrison Ford
They forgot that movie. One of his first
So humble
Mr Ford best work is on 1923! Thank you for this part husband to Helen Mirren. The both of you are fantastic! The back drop of the West in the 1920's is something not seen much. But what has been lost is the devotion to ones family that your Duttons are showing. The love of family, the time[1920's] and the American experience is brought to life with such stunning colors ,Men and women with stories as big as the American frontier and the love stories.
Great Interview
Indeed.
And I like him, too! ❤️❤️❤️

I was in Butte when 1923 was been filmed in Downtown, which in Butte is actually uphill but anyway, the traffic was madness and cars zipping by full of extras, catering trucks going mad...You named,it was present.
I like that he’s also an aviator.
Love it! Love it! Love it! 👍
Legend
I hope he lives to be 100. I'm Gen X and loved him since I was a kid that wanted to be Han Solo, then Indiana Jones. I wept when Han died. Very much enjoying 1923.
Living in Colorado for over a year for work and going up to Wyoming quite often I believe when all my work’s over, that’s where I wanna retire.
He's one of the Expendables. He's the best.
He likes his job...
except for the fame...
which is the reason he has his job!

What kind of cap is Harrison wearing? I’ve been looking for that specific type of cap.
Harrison Ford classic
My uncle was a maintenance man in his apartment building in NY. Used to tell how he would buy them lunch on his way out of the building
Amazing Harrison still doing it. Once gave Daniel Craig one of my NM cartoon books since he and Harrison shot Cowboys & Aliens in NM. Look forward to Indy and the Ancient Irish Spring or whatever.
Great overview.
it is like Dallss jock e, jr own dad was the same too,
I really wish someone would ask him about his woodworking hobby.
Dutton ❤
Harrison Ford. Just a regular guy.
Ford's best performance was as baseball manager Branch Rickey in 42.
If Ben Mankiewicz spoke in an Irish accent he'd be a ringer for Bono.
One point of concern raised by this interview. It seems there's a danger to aging that I've seen evidence of for awhile. And not being that young myself, I'm concerned, and want give all older men a heads-up. Seeing the hat Mr. Ford was wearing outside at his ranch, I see again that even the most dapper male can, as they age, lean into looking more and more like Elmer Fudd every day. I've seen it before, with other men, and I believe it's a real risk of the aging process. Keep an eye on yourself, gentlemen.
I like Harrison Ford's Elmer Fudd hat.
He has 'aged well.
Yup, pretty hard to try and observe people going about their lives if they stop what they're doing and instead watch you.
Can Humans be Tamed?
We need to develop ourselves as human beings beyond our animate level of existence, and it is possible with a certain kind of education.
Developing ourselves as human beings means learning and balancing ourselves with the integral laws of nature operating on our lives. If we learn how to positively connect among each other in human society, with altruistic attitudes replacing our current egoistic attitudes, we then develop ourselves beyond the animate level of existence and become human beings in the fullest sense of the term.
First, we need to provide for our animate lives, giving our physical bodies the food, sex and family that they require, then after taking care of those essentials, we can begin our human development. We then need to learn who and what we are, where we are from, why we exist, how we can develop ourselves, how we can control our human development, what our attitude to our surrounding society should be, what society’s attitude should be toward us, and how we can develop together harmoniously, i.e. us in relation to society, and society in relation to us.
We need to supply ourselves with this development that will make us human beings. Unfortunately, I see nobody understanding what it means to develop a human being, and we thus fail to realize such a process. One of the outcomes of our lack of development into human beings is our inability to understand the younger generation. We become increasingly detached from them, and do not know what will happen with them or how to guide them in a beneficial direction. We thus let life unfold as it does, into a proliferation of problems and crises.
Very simply, we need to learn what nature wants from us, and to develop in order to balance with nature’s demands toward us. If we meet those demands, we can then build a harmonious and peaceful world, one that is in balance with nature.
Just a commercial for the show, which by the way gives you a free trial….right. Then to watch more you have to pay more to join up!
He’s Human (&Amrican!)
Sorry for the new and youger actors, but you can't stand a chance against Mr Ford, so damn charming, even at 80yo. What I would really love to do? Fly on one of his planes. Easy, right? 😁😁😁
hard to believe he's only ten years younger than my dad.
synergy huh? boy i don't know
Rest in peace Harrison 1942-2023
Star Wars
5:53 "I don't want to put bull***t in the way"
Shows a pile of horse***t
It's the little things you notice when the Editor is having a field day.
Indica Jones
You notice they didn’t really mention Star Wars bc harrison pretty much hates his role as Han Solo.
I wonder how he maintains any privacy living in a town with only 10,000 people.
Too bad they passed over the Butte superstar (or I got thwarted, my devices hacked and profile prevented, it’s going to stop at some point!)
for a movie star, Harrison is as unpretentious as it gets.......,
He kinda always plays himself. This is not a bad thing.
Thanks for your continuous love and support❤️. Where are you from and how long have you been a fan of mine?
He clearly did not take the Kool aid
"Making the ordinary, extraordinary "????
That phrase is honestly, kinda stuupid!!
get off my plane
Too bad Helen Mirren is in this show. What a ham,, she overacts.
“extraordinary”?
Cooper is lame
2 shows about the glorification of old men with really bad attitudes. More poison for our subconscious. I've watched movies of a similar genre from Sweden with plots that develop into harmony and eventual friendships between previously conflicting factions. Always stressing the value of civilized, reasonable solutions over hate, violence, stupid machismo and discord. Good over evil. Good is always better, that's the moral of the story. Frank Capra believed in that formula and it certainly went very well for him.
let me call you a wahhhhhhhhh-mbulance
@Arturo Guerra-Mondragon agreed. I like Ford but not Yellowstone or 1923. You have to understand that many of my fellow Americans love to become obsessed about whatever is popular regardless of whether it’s good quality or not.
I watched the first episode of 1923 and found it boring honestly. How many westerns do we need with the same predictable characters and stories?
Taylor Sheridan is overrated. 1883 was a grim version of Lonesome Dove too. And Yellowstone is just Dynasty/Knots Landing in Carhart.
It's an anthology everything Sheridan directs is very grim and straightforward.
Ok, finally some people telling the truth here.
Oh I love the way Taylor Sheridan weaves the injustices, done to the indigenous community, in the past and present in his stories. He is not writing just predictable old westerns, cowboys against Indians. His characters have depth and culture.
