      Excuse my stupid question, it's a philosophical one; can you tell me how do you feel about vomit the soul's apostles of inexpression album? Because even if is band 5002 of brutal death metal I still think they're awesome or more, I understood your opinion, this is not hate or promotion, It's just my take of saying we have to stay exploring for this gems in metal, what do you think?

      Pitting women against each other is not unique to women, it also happens with men in sports and music and films. I think the problem is people always have to introduce an element of competition into everything, even in something as subjective as music.

    I've been in the metal community for over 30 years and on the Internet about as long... and if there is one thing I can count on is that if the "metal community" says a metal band either isn't metal or isn't good, or both, then that metal band is going to BLOW UP and become a leader in the genre.

      The most hated is Ghost, and they won a Grammy... guess what, Spiritbox is nominated for a Grammy with Jaded... so is Ghost, again. By that metric alone proves your point and the "Metal Community" just is too uptight, we get it, these newer bands are going to outpace your comfort bands. Irony is majority of the reactions for Silent Planet's Anitmatter should trigger that group hardcore, I mean they went "Cyberpunk"

      Yep thats why there's been 10 fast n furious movies, 150 million versions of the walking dead, more "Lord of the rings/GoT" takes that you can imagine... Plus the endless supply of Star Wars getting barfed out for Disney+ trends that last for years and make studios Billions of dollars. "neat tricks and novelties" is what successful products have. Thats why so many people quit their day jobs and became Streamers and influencers. @ghostfacekurdkillah4147

    Yeah. As someone said in the video. You can not like a thing and still give a band props. Just because you don't like a thing doesn't mean it sucks. It's absurd to say Spiritbox sucks. And absued to say the same for Sleep Token. It's totally fair for you to not like either. But to say they suck tells me exactly what type of person you are.

    I went to highschool in Victoria BC with Courtney from Spiritbox. She used to play in a band called Unicron with her brother Jackson before she got discovered by Iwrestledabearonce. My first band played our first show with Unicron for their first show. Mike used to play in a band called Fall In Archaea way way long ago. I used to work at the hospital with his mom. Both of them are incredibly talented, but I have to say I'm more than a little surprised by the level of success they've had. Aside from Nelly Furtado and Steve Nash, Victoria is not really all that well known for turning out huge success stories. Courtney was always very polite and kind, I really liked her a lot. Our bands did a lot of shows together back in the day. Mike I didn't know that well but he played in a fairly generic chug chug breakdown mathcore band. Crazy guitar player, just not that original. Good for both of them.

But once upon a time they were in local bands playing around Victoria just like anybody else. Courtney's band Unicron started off a lot like RATM, her brother Jackson used to use a wammy pedal a lot, and then they basically became Iwrestledabearonce, which I think is a big part of how Courtney fit the bill for that band. Plus of course, a lot of talent and sheer dumb luck. Bill Crook used to play in a band called A Texbook Tragedy from Vancouver too. Also a band called Living With Lions. Textbook was way better than anything Spiritbox has done by a mile. But I've never been into the colour by numbers Djent thing so my opinion stops there.

I actually have a couple two three of RC's songs on my Viddy Well playlist. Those bands were all good bands imo. They kinda border on crust and gutter punk (some of em, like RC does), because the crust and gutter punk scene is all about marrying punk and rock themes like heartbreak, resentment, drug and alcohol abuse, depression, being broke, unemployed, and traveling.
    The gutter and crust punks play their folk punk with country and western instruments and influence (like C&W musical influence, melodies, chord progressions, song structure, etc), and some of these Texas-or at least, Southern-based "country rock" artists-or whatever you'd classify them ass; I think of these country-esque bands as more like... Idk, "neo-outlaw" (?)
    Idk if that's even a sub genre already or not, but they remind me of Hank III (grandson and son of HWS and HWJr respectively), which I see as the pioneer, or at least the best example of "neo-outlaw".
    Anyway, the gutter/crust/folk punk scene is almost the same type of musical direction as these new country rock (neo-outlaw) artists. The two subgenres are a ven diagram with a lot of overlap. And honestly, I don't really like crust/guttr/folk punk, like the Railyard Ghosts, or whatever they're called, like that whole corner of anarcho-punk, I can't stand it. I much more enjoy the more country side of this newish country rock movement. The songs (and definitely the vocals) are just a hundred times better 😂

    The reason why I hate people that miss genre bands is that it’s cringe. Do you really want to hear someone say “yeah I’ve been listening to that Punk band Metallica”, or “yeah I listen to Rock, I like Twenty One Pilots, Imagine Dragons, The 1975, and Portugal, The Man”.
    It’s fucking cringe hearing that.

    I'm a lifelong metal fan and the theatrics and visual aspects are one of my favorite things about metal. Most of my favorite bands are very theatrical- Cradle of Filth, GWAR, Arcturus, Finntroll, Nightwish, etc... Even though I'm American, the whole core and emo sides of metal were never my thing aside from some select bands, but I appreciate the aesthetics

    Gimmicks can be super fun and honestly keep the genre humble and fun. Without them I get the vibe the scene would take itself too seriously. Sometimes I want heavy but I don’t want it to be super deep, in those cases I’ll throw ECB or babymetal into the shuffle. ECB was one of the most fun crowds I’ve been in at a show too.

    • @TendyDefendy
      @TendyDefendy 6 місяців тому +2

      Sometimes gimmicks can also be innovative. Electric Callboy isn't the first band to combine electronic music with metalcore, but they definitely have the best execution of it. Combining elements from different genres is literally how nu metal was created, so it's fair to say that a "gimmick" like that can still be innovative.

    Gonna add some of my spice into the mix cuz why not?
    1: Kurt Cobains Influence is more negative than positive, he single handedely ruined everything rock and metal had built up ever since the 70s. His " I don't wanna be a star" mentality compromised a whole generation of younger bands turning them into a lot "fake depressed look at me bands we're just normal guys" that at the end the day has 0 personality, has nothing to say and stands for absolutely nothing. You're not nirvana, it worked because that whole thing was their deal and became that selling point. Don't ever look up to these people, look at how messed up they ended.
    2: TikTok did wonders for metal as whole. It added a humane aspect that severely lacked ever since 2010 when metal became more about musicians instead of the experience and the lifestyle . That's why bands like bands sleep token, bad omens are getting some attention, they are humane, they give you an experience and can connect with listeners at a emotional level.

    • @DragonKnightX12
      @DragonKnightX12 6 місяців тому +1

      I agree. This why assholes with huge personalities like Corey Taylor and Ronnie Radke are climbing to the top. Because they bring something too the table other than I'm a guy that makes cool music.
      I will say tho, I think it's unfair to blame it all grunge, because Thrash kind of pushed that image too. That's where all the metal gatekeeping started. Then got the Prog guys that have obnoxious sense of superiority berceuse they only like technical and complex guitar wankery.

Not because I couldn’t work with anyone I clicked with a bunch of people through out my years of playing on stage. And played shotloads of shows. I also do it on board meaning I don’t use a computer other than to transfer my files. So it has to be dead on time and nailed. I used a drum machine lol but it sounds more real than fake other than the standard decay of the drums.

    Talking about old hardcore shows.. so there was gonna be a show at the new local skatepark but the owner called it off because he felt the crowd wasn’t big enough to I guess .. make a profit.. so My brother tells them to just bring the whole show to my parents farm.. it turned out to be quite a show, we had a nude run into the pit, one band had a small school bus.. since we played instruments.. and the garage had been redone .. it served as the show venue.. it was crazy seeing a train of cars coming to the farm ..
