I'm a GM guy, but I absolutely LOVE the GT40. Made just out of spite of a salty Italian insulting Ford. American muscle stuffed in a British chassis to make one of the best and most iconic machines ever made. In my opinion, one of the most important cars in history, especially American history.
Im a Ford guy and I hear you. I grew up during that time period and also appreciated what Jim Hall did with his Chaparrals. What an innovator with ground effects and aero. It was the golden age of American racing.
Not really truly a British chassis. A collaboration with a Brit in the beginning but most engineering in Dearborn. Early cars built by FAV (Ford Advanced Vehicles) in UK because no one in US for the job, Holman Moody with to much to do already and Kar Kraft was not in existence in 1962/63. I'm a Ford GT owner and Ford racing historian.
I grew up riding in/driving a 390 bored over to 406 big block 67 Fastback. Which I THOUGHT until today was the best sounding V8 I'd ever heard. I changed a 30+ year old opinion because of this video
Absolute masterpiece on Fords end with this car ! And the same respect for the editors of this video. Unreal how good this sounds with headphones on. Straight out the devils workshop!
I have always been a GM Man, growing up in Flint, Michigan, where the first Corvette rolled off the assembly line. That was on Van Slyke Rd. I worked there three years but, The Ford GT-40 would cause me to stray, I absolutely love that car. Never would it be touched with snow. I have a 2004 Harley Davidson Motorcycle that's never been rained on.
Was this one ever in Orlando? We live on a busy corner and I hear a hundred V8s with loud exhaust go by every day. But one day I heard a glorious noise and ran from the back of the house to the front door, sliding around and knocking shit over like a cat, to see a GT40 a couple blocks up driving away. The driver must have sensed it, because he made one more pass making a U-turn right in front of my house. It was... beautiful.
Back when people built cars, they built sure enough fucking cars. The kind that required every ounce of your attention if you didn’t want to end up wrecking or killed. When the thrill of driving was raw and such a beast could only be tamed by the most seasoned drivers. Such an amazing machine from a time long forgotten.
Most likely a Ford FE 427 big block. It looks like a mk2 and not a mk1, u can tell from the rear snorkel ducts on the engine cowling. Mk1 had the Windsor in it, mk2 was redesigned to fit the FE big block. Mk2s can still have Windsors in them but from that sound I want to say it's a big boi.
I have always been a Ford guy and GT40's are awesome. Having said that Lambo's and Ferrari's are rolling works of art too. I love them all and appreciate them all. I would be shocked if someone that loves the GT40 wouldn't like a F40 or a Miura also? They are all art.
That car is so cool! One of my favorites. It would be awesome to shoehorn that drivetrain into the middle of a 1968 Mustang Fastback! With enough money it would be doable.😮
Very close! the 289 in the 1966 Mk.1 was stroked out to 302ci=4942cc when the GT40 Mk. 1 went back to LeMans in 1968 and '69. Technically not a 5.0L, but if it were, it would be disqualified those years for being that large. It won both times, consecutively. Against Porsche.
HEADPHONES ON YA'LL
Ves bro 😊
How did you recorded the sound mate? Put a recorder on the back of the car?
Really, honestly, who would be watching a GT40 clip without headphones?
Yes whit headphones on its just 🔥
HARDCORE TO THE MEGA
I could honestly listen to this all day.
Same lol
So true bro. I keep dreaming about this car.
i did, my gpaw had the mk2 and just reminds me of good times
the 11 people disliked are ferrari fans
Dude as a Ferrari fan this is just amazing lol, the GT40 always has been one of my favourite cars!
lambo is better anyway
I am a Ferrari fan but this has always been my favorite car
@@Sharky_0456first off it’s Lamborghini* saying Lambo is childish and stupid and Lamborghini is not better than Ferrari
@@StockTurboN20 you sound more like a child than me lmao
No goofy elevator background music, no stupid commentary. Just sound and fury, love it
My goodness, the cinematography on this was amazing. Perfect shot a 0:42 of the rear closing down. Chef's kiss
No introduction, no narrator telling me what I'm listening to, no vanity shots of the driver. Pure fucking _bliss._
Well over 200mph down the Mulsanne Straight in the late 1960's. What a superb machine!
