I wish ECT it was more common as a outpatient service. The university hospital near me that offers it, only does it inpatient. It's extremely frustrating for me because I'm very treatment resistant. I feel like I'm running out of options and definitely doesn't make things better. I just want to feel 'normal'.

The treatment doesn't work only it messes your brain up. The only reason they say it has below average success rate is because patient are not allowed to discontinue the treatment once started if they do not state the treatment worked.

I honestly wish is was a front line option for treatment. Have you tried ketamine infusions?

@@mgthetraveller3799Some depressions are not just a "talking your troubles away" kind of mood disorders"; Do you not think these people have tried that already? Or do you think theyre waiting for magic happy pills? Chemical imbalances in depression where medications have tremendously failed and have sometimes worsened it with their horrible side effects, can only be "resolved" with extreme measures such as this and for resistant depression, it may need ongoing treatment.
The stigma for ECT that Hollywood has given it, has to dissappear and make this treatment more readily available and affordable for everyday people who are seriously struggling with these type of illnesses...
