This treatment instantly changed me from someone who could drive cars, ride motorcycles, fly aircraft, to someone who can no longer do any of the above, along with not being able to count money, read, or watch tv. Motion sickness stops me being able to walk more than a few minutes. Double vision, and intense headaches 24/7.
    Life is over.

I had a horrifically bad episode of depression in 2004. I would have tried anything, even ECT if I had access to it. Now I'm sure I dodged a bullet after reading the comments below. Using ECT to treat depression is like firing a cannon to kill a mosquito. I use the Neuro Flow device, tested and approved by the NHS, and it got my brain firing on both engines in days, not weeks. I still use it twice a week for 30 minutes. It's just enough electricity for the afflicted areas of my brain with no risk of memory loss and loss of function.
ECT is barbaric. It should go the way of blood-letting.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm sorry to hear about your struggle, but I’m glad the Neuro Flow device has helped you. Mental health treatments can be so personal, and I understand your concerns about ECT. It’s great that you’ve found what works for you. Wishing you continued wellness!

For anxiety disorder is it best or not?

    • @DrRozinaHappyandHealthyMind
      @DrRozinaHappyandHealthyMind  6 місяців тому +1

@apurbodey640, As a mental health professional, it's important to clarify that anxiety disorders and depression are distinct mental health conditions, although they can coexist. When it comes to considering treatments like ECT for anxiety disorders, it's crucial to recognize that its effectiveness isn't as well-established as it is for depression. If you're contemplating this option, I encourage you to consult with a qualified mental health practitioner near you for personalized guidance tailored to your individual needs.

I had 13 ECT treatments and they not only didn’t work for me, but 7 years after them, I still have Long and short term memory loss and some cognitive impairments. I lost my career in the healthcare field- very devastating loss and ruined my life.

I am sorry the treatment did not work for you and cause loss and suffering. Not every treatment works for everyone. Therefore it is used as one of the last choices. When a person is suffering, other things have not worked, and the chances of benefits are higher than the risks, then this treatment is chosen. There are newer treatments available and hopefully one of those treatments can help you

Barbaric. Complete rubbish what doctors say about it. They would never risk it themselves then recommend it.

What do you think? Is ECT for depression Barbaric or life-saving?

I was subjested to ECT. 30 times. No consent. It has destroyed my memory almost completely.
All this you hear is really nonsense. There is nothing to show why or how it could work. No reserch at all. Its not medicine. All he says here is completely unproven. It is a procedure that psychiatrists have used for 80 years with no clear science. It generates fortunes for psychiatrists who defend it, and like here they even try to suggest new indications for it, such as even dementia! Anything to generate more income. $$$. Stop it now. It IS barbaric.
No one knows how the brain works, let alone what thinking is. How can an electric shock help?
I promise you, as a retired consultant medic, that this treatment as with most of psychiatry, is not medical science at all. It really has destroyed my life and taken all my intelligence away. Do all you can to stop it.

@@phillipsmith4485 I am sorry it didn't work for you. Not all treatments work for everyone. There are many who benefit and as discussed, it is one of the treatments that is tried when many other treatments fail. There are newer treatments coming out all the time. Hopefully one of those would work for you

It was a totally inappropriate, unconsented, insult which leaves me without a daily memory. You can do nothing without some memory. Now that one american ECT manufacturer cannot obtain insurance for its devices, it looks like it is really the begining of the final end of ECT. Too late.

I will never allow a psychiatrist to attend me again. The pseudo specialty is indefensible.

      S.O.L., I'm afraid.😔
ECT is the the most effective you can get AFAIK. expensive and flaky insurance in my experience.
