I've NEVER Decoyed MALLARDS This CLOSE.. | MN Duck Hunting 2022

- You're more likely to see Bigfoot than huge flocks of mallards on the east coast, so when Cory and I got under a massive flight line of greenheads on a recent duck hunting outing I was quietly losing my sh*t. We had walked into a MN public land slough that a buddy of Cory's had seen mallards & pintails piling into the day before and once we hit the open water the show was on. Within minutes of us setting out our decoys I could tell this was going to be mallard hunting like I'd never seen it before. The decoying action was unreal and while our shooting wasn't quite perfect, Bonnie brought back every bird we pulled up on. Gonna be hard to top this for the rest of the 2022 season, but we'll try.. Hope you enjoy!

As someone who has lost hearing due to a couple people I am glad that you’re aware of the mistake. I never hunt now without it. It’s a little too late now as I constantly have ringing in my ear. Ear protection is definitely priceless 👏
I never liked ported chokes or muzzle brakes. Too loud
@@richhauxwell7848 .........huh ?? lol.....my ears are shot too from being young dumb and full of cumb and no ear plugs, save your ears fella's listen to the ole moss backs like me..... LEARN TO CALL DUCK WITH EAR PLUGS IN !!!
Nice Hunt. Lots of birds and excellent weather - Good job by the Energizer Pup!
Thanks Nick!
Awesome video ! Love the one handed shot! Hits home with that one haha.
That was crazy with all the Ducks flying out there enjoyed it Thomas
Thanks Chuck! How much longer till you get to chase them down there?
Super Storm Sandy, my brother and I tried to get my nephew to take the day off. The hunting was beyond belief. We'll never forget the pintails that day.
What state were you hunting during Sandy?
Loved it, what a great hunt, keep those videos coming, I'm stuck at work this season and cant get out to do my own!
Thanks Rick! Gonna try my best to keep them coming every week!
Thanks for the video, Thomas...another good one. As for shooting a banded bird;I was hunting in mostly Louisiana and it was 54 years before I was certain I shot a banded duck. (male Pintail 5+years
was in the same blind for 9 other banded ducks)
Calls? I have to laugh for me the ultimate and only judges are the ducks and geese! What works one day in what ever part of the country probably isn't effective some where else. I'M glad you see the great value of a hunting dog. In Louisiana without a good dog (we had Labradors)you would pick up about none of the cripples in the marsh and only the dead on the water.
Now my 4 legged hunting partner IS my total enjoyment of a morning in the blind.
Thomas as I have said you are a great role model for you generation of waterfowlers.
"Don't move they are coming in. "
Thanks Sly! It definitely seems like the further south you get down the flyway, the lower the chances of encountering a band are. Where was your banded pintail from?
@@HokeOutdoors Chaplin SK.Canada
I think I’m the only one picking up on the trailer park boys references, we’d get along great haha #TeamHoke
Haha I’m glad someone is getting them! There’s always a few made on every hunt so I’ll have to try to slip one or two in each video
What call is your buddy using it sounds amazing
He’s blowing a DRC Rev
Now your duck hunting kid!!! I been watching for a long time..Been waiting for you to do it right..
Sweet video man that's alot of ducks. I have shot 3 ring necks with one shot before, they were flying just right. it was my first season duck hunting and that hunt really got me hooked .
Thanks Brandon! That’s a heck of a feat to pull off, especially in your first season
@@HokeOutdoors it was all luck lol they were just right, my buddies couldn't belive it. That was the best season so far that was about 4 yrs ago Connecticut hasn't had the best season the past few years.
Awesome hunt buddy. Not sure how you can ever go home after this season.
Thanks Chase! It’s gonna be tough but I do look forward to chasing some black ducks around the Virginia swamps later this season though
Epic! Shot a banded black duck this morning! Great video as always!
Heck yeah brother, congrats! Are you going to mount it? I think that would have to go on my wall
@@HokeOutdoors I 100% would mount it but half it’s face is missing… oops lol
Muy excelentes lances de cazerias amigos saludos chebres caza
What DRC call is that??
We’re both using a Rev, they’re out of stock right now but we’re working on turning more very soon
Do you use a body external mic on your gopro? Or only on that big camera?
With the way o listen to music in my truck I do t even weee testing bro out in the field I’ve had my buddy shoot with his muzzle right next to my ear lol 😂 but goog for callin you’re self out in it
What wood duck call was blown at 12:55?
Nothing wrong with a bunch of mallards 🤙!!!
Never gonna hear me complaining about it!
I knew I should have gone out last weekend. I guess I’ll have to get my deer quick this weekend and get back to duck hunting.
How did the deer hunting go? Looks like these next couple days are gonna be the last chance to get on ducks this season
@@HokeOutdoors no deer. Might have to skip this weekend and do duck.
Great video! Curious as to what video editor you use? Started a channel myself and need something more reliable than windows editor that keeps crashing. Haha
I appreciate it! I use Final Cut Pro, but if you're editing on a PC I'd look into Da Vinci Resolve
@@HokeOutdoors thanks man!
What brand of gun do you use ?
Was this filmed with a GoPro? If so, would you tell me about it? The quality is awesome!
Still pounding em I see. Keep after it!
Awesome video!
Thanks brother!
Did the drainage pipe for the mullet pond work in controlling the water level or was it too small ?
Millet
It worked at getting the water off but I don’t think they buried it quite deep enough so it didn’t drain the pond down very far
Any idea what wood duck calls Corey is blowing?
I was blowing the wood duck call, it was a duck commander "woodie"
What kind of duck call was the first initial calling of the video??
DRC Rev. Out of stock right now. Building more...
Why ground swat with all those ducks flying around?
What duck call are you and Cory blowing in the video?
Sounds awesome, Pretty sure it's DRC call Co. out of Minnesota, that's the owner in the vid--
We were both using a Rev on this one
@@HokeOutdoors I do not see them on the website.
What type of shotgun cam are you using ?
It’s called a ShotKam
Those are Cory's DRC calls, but witch one? Man they sound great!!
I would imagine Corey made that call himself, at the call company he owns
@@benblazek3305 Yes, but wondered which model Duck call, I only see one on the website...
@Rob Lacitinola maybe a prototype
Thanks! We were both using a Rev, unfortunately we’re out of stock on them right now but we’re working on getting more turned in the next week or so
What call is your buddy using?
We’re both using a DRC Rev
We shoot bkue wings into November. Not a lot of them, but here and there.
That’s wild, I’ve never even seen them in Virginia past mid October before. I wonder what makes them hold out longer up here
@@HokeOutdoors my thought is either a local population, or they are coming from.much farther north. I don't know though.
Mallards bunched up like that or wood ducks landing in the decoys???
That’s a tough one but I gotta do for mallards bunched up just because I haven’t seen it much before
Any new mounts?
Got a couple that I’m waiting to get back but that’s all at the moment
How much was your hearing protection
Mine are about $150 since they're just passive protection. Cory's are around 1k since they have an active component
Where can i find a sled cover like that...been looking for 2 years with no luck
It’s made by beavertail I believe
@@HokeOutdoors thank you
Hey great hunt. Can’t believe they didn’t flare but y’all were hidden well
Cant imagine the show if you guys were out their setup at daylight
Might’ve been a good show but most of these ducks go out to field feed so we might’ve messed up the whole hunt by busting them off the roost
How come in all you’re MN videos you’re getting to all the spots in the daylight
Most the ducks were targeting up here field feed so typically we wait to setup until they’ve left the water they’re roosting/loafing on
🇪🇨🇪🇨👍
Water swatting into a group is a great way to cripple the others.....
I’d agree if it was a whole flock. In this case I had three birds heads right next to each other. I would’ve killed all three stone dead but just pulled the shot high
4 shots?
No plug needed?
Where did you see four shots?
No where I guess. Lol
Watched again. My bad.
You looking at homes in the MN area? Lol. Few things in life rival bearing witness to thousands of mallards like that.
Haha not quite yet, gotta see if I can make it through a MN winter first. Mornings like these are going to make it hard to leave though!
First
If you’re only using 12 decoys why use a sled? Way easier to just carry a bag on your back then pull a sled on dry ground.
We use the sled to hold our blind bags while we're hunting. We're standing in knee deep water and there's no trees to hang them from so its really the only option
@@HokeOutdoors I commented before I saw you guys were kneeling in water hunting. Lol makes complete sense. I also use a sled if we will be standing in the water.
Wait til you field hunt. You will think this is far.
I’ve gone on a couple field hunts this season. It’s fun working them close in the field rig but I still enjoy hunting over water more
No sportsman shoots ducks off the water……notice you didn’t show those on your slow-mo, red dot camera footage.
Im a small guide in south texas come hunt with me down here for free. Love watchin the videos and ive learned a few spots from you up in north texas. Ive got room for you +2 or you +1 and a dog if youd like!
Shooting ducks on water is very unsporting not good practice asides from that good quality video
Oh god. Corey again…. Please before I make harsh judgments could you give us some sort of background on the guy.
He wears a full neck strap of goose bands. Nobody who spends that much time out of the blind has ever shot a band unless it’s pure luck. I know people who’ve hunted ducks and geese religiously for over 30 years and still only have 1 or 2 bands (most hunters I know have zero).
Also he spends so much time paying attention to the dang dog he doesn’t even shoot half the time if not more.
And he doesn’t know how to blow a duck call.
I just don’t buy it. He is everything I dislike about dog hunters
Sorry. He really really really doesn’t know how to blow a duck call. Like woah that’s insane 😂ive never heard that before
@@TristanBapst not all states blow calls the same. Just as hunting as a whole there’s different types of styles. Different ways to blow the calls and different type of ways the calls are made. Ducks also don’t react to the same calls thats ducks in other states will. He’s most likely blowing a cut down style call which is why it sounds so different then what your used to.
How many bands you get depends on where you live and just how much banding is done on your flyway. I live in southern Ontario Canada and most hard core hunters get bands every year, mostly from Nunavut. We also get green money bands from private clubs, we calll them money bands because the club pays you $50 for calling in the information.
Dudes a national champion at calling geese and owns drc calls 😂 he’s there to work his dog not hunt
@@TristanBapst
I hope so badly that you are actually serious.
