I grew up listening to Skid Row and took my daughter to see Sebastian not to long ago, she loved it. She took me to the Rockzilla show with Falling in Reverse and i loved it. We are Two generations of rocker’s. We love them Both. Keep on Rocking boys.
56 yr old musician and music fan here - took my 18 year old daughter to see FIR approx 6 months ago and I was impressed - stood side stage entire show - the crowd was seething for them and they executed - then I took her to see anthrax and BLS - anthrax was no show and Zach performed like he has been neutered - it's a new day and there are young wolves circling - more power to the new generation of metal heads, rockers or whatever you want to call them - but - don't get in their way - we need to push them into the pit - love, encourage and lead - not belittle them

Actually, Eddie has said numerous times that he refuses to see Kiss live because of that. He's even called them out on it.
He haven't seen a kiss show in years he been very critical of them for the lip sync and having tommy and Eric dress like peter criss and ace just look on UA-cam their clips of him calling them out 🤣🤣

As an aging pop punk musician, I definitely spanned the days of strait instruments and (later) incorporating some programmed stuff. Here's the thing: Ronnie, love him or hate him, is a multi-instrument musician who also played in bands with no programming or samples; that was then - this is now. Ronnie's much closer to 40 than 30, and he's still out there getting streams and selling tickets because he's relevant - 20 years after hitting the scene.
Sebastian Bach, though I love his work and Skid Row was my first concert as a kid, was lucky to be getting spots on VH1 20 years after 18 and Life...and the less said about his "Savage Animal" days, the better. So for Eddie Trunk and Bach to bash on the new generation just screams of "get off my lawn" boomer-speak IMO.
Here's another nugget of info to chew on: Corey Taylor has a number one album out right now, featured recently on a FiR song, and uses samples in his music - and he turns 49 in December. He's 6 years younger than Sebastian Bach...seems to me Sebastian (and a lot of the old gatekeeper crowd) could stand to do some reflecting on how the guy who played hundreds of shows with a mask filled with puke strapped to his face (CT) and didn't burn out after 25 years, could still be so relevant and successful - while he (Bach) was washed up just 3 years in.
Maybe Sebastian's career wouldn't have flamed out (and so quickly) if he'd concentrated his energy and influence on engaging the younger generation, a la Corey Taylor; instead, dude is coming off salty, and whether he wants the smoke or not, pretty sure his machismo wouldn't save him if he ran into a guy 20-years his younger who likes to work out daily.
Music is for everyone, but ultimately is a young person's game, and the only way to survive in that climate is to adapt. These Gen X folks should really listen to how they're sounding and remember how the first time they played a Metallica record that their parents heard - how their parents refused to consider it music; same sort of crap that is now coming out of their mouths. Get over yourselves, and be happy kids are as into music as ever before and creating more of it than before. I'm sorry you guys had to deal with crappy record company practices and pass out fliers, but hating on these kids for making their own way just comes off as sad and out of touch.

P.S. Eddie Trunk admires rocks stars and surrounds himself with washed up rockstars...yet he's not playing shows, and is essentially living through others. So I find it funny he wants to pop off about a guy who's been playing shows since the early 2000s and before and is still successful.
I've never heard any of Eddie's music...but I have heard numerous songs (and albums) written entirely by Ronnie, and so have thousands upon thousands of others across dozens of countries - and has done so many more years without laptops than with - so what's his point?
I'm not a huge FiR fan, but I am a musician, and I can say this: The bands Eddie Trunk worships would get SHREDDED by the guitarists from FiR; that doesn't take anything away from those bands, as they walked so others could shred; but if Eddie's point is that they're not real musicians? The guitarists that have played with/for FiR would demolish 99.9% of Eddie's idols on guitar...so I ask again, what is his point other than complain because...reasons. *OLD* reasons.
P.S.S. Eddie, I miss the 80s too buddy. It's okay, buddy.

And just playing without laptops is not an option because that means they not only dont have vital orchestral parts etc but they also dont have click tracks, lighting or special effects because all these things run from laptops. Also patch changes of guitars etc run over MIDI/Laptops
I saw them at Rockville last year waiting for Mudvayne to go on and they were decent. I don't see an issue with a band using tracks that fill out their sound/play parts that literally couldn't be played live like what Falling in Reverse does. It becomes an issue when certain bigger bands *cough* Kiss *cough* start using backing tracks to do vocals and other parts that could be done live because they've done it before.

Fact: no laptop required to rock.
You need amps? You need mics? You need instruments? You need vocals? Poser. I only rock pure! Acoustic guitar only, depending on the tech used to make the guitar and materials involved. And no modern singing techniques. The music in my head is pure and perfect like Rock should be.

More and more bands are using samples, tracks, programming or some sort of electronic elements. I played with a fellow local band a month ago and they use laptops. They couldn't get them to work rught,but played anyway and was TOTALLY different than what the song actually was. I used to be opposed, but now for them. Gives a bigger element to the song. FIR was very clever with making their state.

They do have some older songs with witch this would be possible. But besides Ronnie no one was on the band when they were written. Not sure they even know them much less know how to play them. Bands spend weeks or even month rehearsing songs for a set (they probably have recorded themselves at one point, other than in this case) before a tour. To learn a complete set of songs with only one rehearsal together? That's imposible and not fair to expect. When they don't even have the chance to control the sounds of the guitars because the reason equipment isn't there, it's even more impossible.
Falling In Reverse once did a whole acoustic set, so yes, they can do it, but not with that little time to prepare.
You're not alone. If they couldn't play without the laptops how much is the band really doing??
@@thewickedwizard They are literally playing their instruments. The laptop controls instrumentation that would be done by other people if it were all 100% live. There are a pretty large amount of layers in most modern music because of the electronic influence. I can't name a single falling in reverse song but what is wrong with you people? Def Leppard uses them. They have several behind the scenes videos and one showed the sound guy and he had laptops going and said everything goes through these.
I was at their set and thought it was hilarious. This weekend has been amazing. Papa Roach was killer. I’m sure from get pushed through the crowd but u did make it to the front.

My 2 cents as a 29 year old metal head who plays guitar and has been in the production game even in a slightest way: They could play their set without it. Being creative and spontaneous go hand in hand when playing live. I’ve loaded in dozens of bands, lamb of god had a laptop and so did BVB, behemoth, etc. the older bands like Stone temple pilots did not, mostly because their sets didn’t involve backing tracks and samples. There has to be a level of creativity on stage and in fact, I would love to hear Popular Monster or Drugs a bit more stripped down to an analog level. I bet they would sound just as great in a new light

Tech as a supplement to a performance is fine and more or less necessary with a complicated show. Tech as a substitute for performing, i.e. just pushing play and faking actual singing and playing instruments is, of course, B.S. unless it's clear going in that is what you're getting for the price of your ticket.
Where do you draw the line though? Starts to become a grey area when you have the lead vocal line mixed in very low, but to beef up the lead vocal. An extra guitar rhythm-part in the chorus, a snare hit etc. To me that gets eerily closer and closer to those rappers that don't even take out their vocals and use a backing track, but just shout over their Spotify tracks for thousands of people. Saw a band called Beabadoobee (?) who was also mumbling over pre-recorded vocals. In the end it will come around again, alternative people get sick of the polished pop shows, start playing garage punk etc, that will become huge in 5 years and cycle repeats itself again

I think that a lot of bands use some form of a backing track, and that's fine...as long as they're not lip-syncing or "fake playing" I have no problem with it.
Would be cool if Ronnie got a keyboard player and electronic percussionist to join the band to play all these tracks so they can do it all live

Ok makes more sense now but I went to rockfest last month for FALLING IN REVERSE!! I did not know they were not there till I drove 2 hrs and sat through half the other bands I had no desire to see. Major disappointment. When I contacted the ticket supplier not looking for a refund but for tickets next time they come around me and was denied. I thought that was crap as I don't have the cash to do much but to see them I saved!!

I think it’s your band, your fans. Do whatever it takes to get the job done. I went to see a band live that I was looking forward to seeing live. The drummer was in an accident and didn’t make the show, think he broke his arm. The singer pulled out a drum machine and the did the whole show like that.. that was great. But if you have a setup where you’re running backing tracks.. please have backups ready to go. Keep the laptop backed up onto a hard drive and bring it with you . Don’t throw your crew under the bud ever! That’s the bands fault for not being prepared for this situation. I certainly wouldn’t have admitted to what actually happened to have cause the cancellation. It’s just inviting ridicule. Just saying…I bet they don’t let that happen again.

I have to wonder: why is that stuff not backed up to the cloud? I'm just an average schmoe, and everything on my laptops that's important to me is backed up online. If you've got mission critical software and data, then back it up, in a way that's accessible online. Unless sheer size prevents? If this stuff is measured in massive TBs then okay, but otherwise, losing a laptop is not really an excuse.

Two totally different styles of music. I’d honestly go on a limb and say playing along with tracks is harder because when u play live you get amped up and sometimes can speed up or slow down to make certain parts of songs pop or whatever. Just my two cents. Two totally different styles of music tho.
They have 2 guitarists on stage! They could authentically, through musicianship, recreate the notes being played with the backing track! Real musicians would make it better! Then again, real musicians wouldn’t be in falling in reverse

Its not. Not if your music has vital orchestral parts, synth parts etc in it. Those cant just quickly be rearranged into a rock band context. Thats never going to work and cancelling is the only real respectful way to deal with it because your fans deserve to get the full experience. Thats what they pay for

they have live bass and drums lmao the laptop is for extra sounds not already produced by the instruments, it can operate their distortion pedals or add an electronic backing element for certain parts.

I'm sorry but if your music is heavily reliant on backing tracks and computers then it really isn't great music that will stand the test of time. There's putting on a show and then there is going to a concert to listen to music. As what Dave Grohl has indicated in the past, if you can't perform songs just as good or almost as good as the version on the record then it's not going to connect on that deeper level with the audience as well. The music will ring hollow.
That’s part of their music. Most newer songs have gone to the extras that are all computer controlled. Rap is all that way yet they don’t catch flak for it. It’s about dynamics in music over time. It’s 2022 who ever doesn’t evolve to use everything at their disposal today are not with the times. Face it the world is digitalized now from damn near every facit. How many songs can be made with the same sounds and instruments before it all sounds the same? That’s one thing I like about falling in reverse they do just that but don’t sacrifice or become main stream by selling out and going soft they still slap and radkey sings about real shit while the guitar solo and break downs are kept alive. That’s why they are growing not because they bent to the industry like many other famous recurrent bands out in the same class but not even close. FFDP sold out and whiny. Shit honestly can’t think of one other hand that’s on top like they are currently that didn’t weaken their music up to the point it sounds all the same.
And watching some rap and hiphop artist mumbling in a mic and one guy to the side controlling a laptop is like watching a bad karaoke.
