Just bought 2 new Genie garage door openers with battery backup. Now I can open the garage door without power! Was regretting not getting wifi but I saw MyQ for just $17 on Amazon so I bought it and hope it will work with my openers. Looks like it should. And if it doesn't, free returns, y'all!
14:56 BTW, could not help noticing how noisy your garage door was going up. Suggest you apply new grease to your Genie screw drive rail. Genie sells a specialized screw drive grease just for this very maintenance. I also replaced my carriage assembly, which interfaces between the door arm and entire screw drive and this basic maintenance reduced the noise of my garage door almost to point that I cannot hear it. Also your video was very informative, nice job!
Excellent video. Thanks for posting this. These are so handy. You'll keep finding uses for it after it's installed. Did you accidentally lock yourself out of the house and your car keys and house keys are on your key ring inside on the table? But you know that the door inside from your garage to the house is unlocked? No problem just bring up the app hit the button that says open and go in the house and get those keys. Reminding yourself how handy the app is and also not to leave your keys setting in the house and accidentally walk out shutting the door behind you and have it lock. How about somebody opens the door in the garage while you're gone away? You will know the app will give you a notification the garage. Door is opening. You can rush home or you can use the app to tell the garage door to close again. Surprising the hell out of whoever was opening it. I agree about not granting garage access to Amazon or any other vendor . It would certainly be good if you live in an area where packages are being stolen off of your property while you're not home But for me I don't have that problem so I don't need to have access for vendors.

@@dgendev I ran down and took a picture of it. H4000A, Make sure you follow the steps to the letter, I messed up the first time. I'll do some searching on that model and see if there are any quirks with it.
THANK YOU!! IT WORKED!!!! Almost when I gave up hope, I tried moving the hub, pressed all 3 buttons on the hub, and unplugged and plugged it back in again. And literally it worked! I think this Genie garage door opener is as old as the house from 1994 and if that's the case it still works with myQ smart hub. Amazing!

Those setup steps make you feel like opposite to smart. You don't know how things work together. If unexpected things happen, you would have no idea of trouble shooting, and only choice is have to start over setup process again. Sometime, it could be very frustrate to simple set dumb device to join you wifi lan. And you risk the app some day out of your control to simple stop working because vendor want you upgrade. they all have back door to their company. and that will allow company shutoff all device in seconds due to an server outage. Is there subscription hook, yes, it away coming in your way.

Thanks for the comment. I had been using an oil for garage doors, I changed it for a grease and it's alot quieter. Thanks again.

I have genie model 2028b. It works when you remove the existing led bulb. It causes interference
