Actually Maybe Dream Theater has been inspired by Fates Warning; while maybe Fates Warning also gets some feedback from Dream Theater. In other words instead of there being one great band there are two. I don't see the reason for arguing I'm actually pretty happy with it, and think if anything we should celebrate (heck, maybe even to hope for some kind of jam, like halford and bruce). In any case that is my humble opinion. Cheers!
I don't know my advice to all would be respect good musicians both Fates Warning and Dream Theater have those both very different yet phenomenal bands let's enjoy the music and cut the bashing please!
Check out Mark Zonder's work on Major Denial of Greece! I am proud to have been the lead vocalist of this particular song in the project! soundcloud.com/major-denial/03-i-am-the-shadow
Everthing that Dream Theater has done, Fates was doing quite a few years before. "A Pleasant Shade of Gray" was the last of Fates's "traditional" progressive rock albums, of which they began with 1989's "Perfect Symmetry". Dream Theater, while professional at guitar noodling overbloated songs that go nowhere, cannot touch Fates in the songwriting department, and their best ideas came from Fates Warning's early material anyway.
I agree they would, but since my friend I am all thumbs, I think the closest I will ever get to a guitar is guitar hero, without the teacher wanting to quit on me.
2:43 to 4:06 Dream Theatre Stole Those riffs from Fates Warning! That's funny because I have never known that until I listened to Fates Warning just today (Monday, July, 29, 2013)

APSoG is more prog metal than prog rock.
The only FW albums I'd really call prog rock are Parallels and Inside Out.
Alder's voice is fantastic live. Oftentimes, vocalists struggle with a good live performance, but not him!
Auto-tune?
80's-90's DT=FW=QR >> every rock band existed
Not from this world!
