- The great Carnatic musician MD Ramanathan (1923 - 1984) was a maverick who infused his performances with a soulful depth and fervor all his own. His voice, a rich and resonant baritone, had an almost mystical quality, blending tradition with an avant-garde spirit. MDR's concerts were spontaneous journeys, each note a unique brushstroke on the canvas of Carnatic music. Beyond the stage, he was a quiet seeker of truth and beauty. His legacy is a timeless tapestry of innovation and devotion, a beacon for future generations of musicians and dreamers alike.
‘The Boho Baritone’ is an intensive 2-part documentary on the life and legacy of MD Ramanathan, curated and produced by MOPA Foundation.

Such a man who rendered great music was left without money and struggled towards end of life.Unfortunate that Kalakshetra and Government did not take care of this great treasure.
Perfect truth. MDR Sir was not an exception. Most artists and great souls who have devoted their life for the benefit of humanity were less recognized when they lived. They all made their creations out of deep passion and selflessness💛💚💙. Such creations only remains immortal. The people who lived during their time were unfortunate to tap the benefits and cried over the spilt milk later by themselves or by their descendants😞😞.
I wish this documentary presented current musicians from the younger generation who have done tremendous justice to MDR’s exemplary compositions and style vs. the ones presented here.
M.D.R was an innovator, developed his own style , in short he was a class by himself.A rare fenius among Karnatak musicians.👌👋👍🌹🌷❤
Awesome. Thanks for this documentary
MDR is truly the universal muscian from the carnatic world. Thanks for this effort.
L.E.G.E.N.D!

Great.. Awaiting part 2.
What a majestic musician he was! Thank you MOPA for sharing this invaluable treasure 🙏🏼❤️
This is one of the most golden treasures and tribute to the all-time great musician, master, Guru, and the torch for all generations of classical musicians, music lovers, and listeners of music, not alone Carnatic music. I adore the great master’s personality, simplicity, passion towards music, efforts to achieve perfection, dedication, simplicity, conviction, confidence, knowledge (vidwath), etc. were all reflected in his music renditions. A great immortal legend who enthralled true music lovers and listeners, who still lives in the hearts of innumerable music lovers, and whose fragrance is spreading across the universe as time pass on. Kodi kodi pranamams to MOPA for taking the efforts to create/compile this great video and for sharing it with music rasikas💛💚💙👋👋👋🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏. We eagerly look forward to Part 2 of the creation🙌🙌🙌
