I'd be interested to know how much the check valve does. I installed a catch can on my 2019 Veloster Turbo, same concept/motor. This is the first time I've seen an install with a check valve though. I just used a 3/8" mender splicer to connect where your valve is.
How often do you have to empty the catch can? Will it void the warranty? 🤔. With GDI you would think car manufacturers would start to include them from the factory to help with build up in the intake valves.
No it will Not void warranty. When it comes to emptying them, it depends on size of can and temperature. In cooler months there may be more caught because less will evaporate.

Sorry I do not know what the PSI rating is for the valve. This is a low pressure system so it should be plenty to hold that. The 3/8 fuel lines are rated at 50psi.
Sxth element doesn't have the same one on their website anymore, but it looks exactly the same just without the gt bracket logo and says it doesn't fit the gt models and only the sport models. Anyone with any thoughts?

The PCV is the side you want one on. I was shocked at how much mine caught in 1,000 miles. Which can you go with is up to you but something is likely better than nothing.

Over 1,000 miles twice now it was just enough to cover the bottom on the inside of the can. I have yet to check it again since its cooled off and more condensation should be building up.
Hey what do you think about the factory horn? I think it is weak. Granted it is far better than the sissy horn on the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport that I traded in. Any ideas from the GT crowd?

@@Elpaisitamaschimba I haven't really found any definitive answers concerning this. Some people say to do it and others say it isn't necessary. All in all I am very happy with the car tho. As long as you're not looking for anything fancy then i find it to be a great commuter car for a great price
@@mikebalasia1095 ive actually been trying to look into it, and havent found anything either, seems like most people put these on their 1.5 sport or turbos. I would of settled with the crc gdi intake cleaning, but the results that ive seen dont really stack up to a walnut blasting treatment, but those are expensive. Given they're GDIS im sure the intake valves will fill up with soot and carbon eventually. Will probably end up doing a hyundai service at the dealership for this only if I decide to buy, does the 2018 base elantra gt come with android auto?
Hi Justin I managed to order this can after watching your video for my i30 n line how often do you empty the can from the beginning of it being installed I’m curious mines arriving soon
During the warm months, maybe every 6-8 weeks I check it but there often is hardly anything in it. During the winter, I have to check every 4 weeks or so because the condensation fills it up quicker. It will get full quickly in the winter so check often.
Great job Justin. I wish Sxth would provide some different bracket options or longer hoses, because the one I got for my 2019 Veloster Turbo can only be installed in one location by the intake (which only works with their aftermarket intake).
Hey! Think this will work for a Tucson with the same engine? I don't mind fabbing a mount bracket... I wanted an N line but got a 2017 Tucson Eco because it fit me inside better...
@@JustinKelly well, the Tucson has the same Coolant reservoir and space for the catch cans in that corner, the only difference is the ground screw location, which this bracket needs... I'll come up with something, or SXTH can start giving the Tucson some more love lol.

Emptied mine today and surprised the amount of brown sludge in it. Unfortunately they're illegal to have here in California and under jan 2019 new vehicle code, officers have the right to pop your hood and inspect with no longer fixit ticket but a fine. These can extend to more than $1000 in fines if continued caught with it. First time they immediately send you to a smog ref which will be a $100+ fee alone to further inspect. I need to pull the air intake as well. Mines a dual cc with breather filter and screams mod painted red. I can paint it black and try and hide it. Its a catch 22... suffer a messed up turbo eventually stock, or pay the fines. Option 3 is moving out of state, definitely on my plan list.
I dont believe so. I dont know the heat tolerance for this hose but I believe its high enough to withstand the heat from the intake manifold and valve cover.
Nah man they are designed for heat, those hoses are fine. I have a Veloster N and the engine bay gets much hotter than the 1.6 and ive had no issues, i also run the SXTH Element catch can, best mod if u have a turbo or gdi car and u want it to last. Plus it looks cool in the engine bay lol
Ive set my elantra sport like this with out a check valve and went for a cruz for 30 mins and the bottom of my can had oil and gas mixture in it that normal
Like the video I have a 2018 elantra sport and just put on in the last 2 weeks the AFE stage 2 cold air intake and AFE scorcher gt chip but unfortunately my car just got written off due to a hail storm 😑

Man I sure hope it’s not too late on my 1.6t Tucson at 49k. Have not even done a valve cleaning job. Of course they don’t tell you this at the dealership and scare you away.......
@@eduardocortes4317 do it for sure your not too late if it still runs fine no issues. My 2016 Tucson suffered at 103,000miles but I started to have issues at 70,000 do it before too late and yes have those valves cleaned manually you can do it yourselfe. I run one on my 2020 now not making that same mistake.
@@eduardocortes4317 intake valves should be a worry but if your piston tops get covered with enough carbon layers your screwed engine will ping and you’ll have to use higher octane gas and if it’s that bad you could risk taking out the catylic converter with spray cleanings, manually clean those valves have them inspected first maybe again you can do it yourselfe, put a catch can on so you don’t mess up the compression of your engine. Carbon layers on your piston tops can increase the compression when these engine are already strained from being gdi. Don’t proscrastinate. I’m telling from experience least I could do is save some e else also every now and then make sure oil level is good can’t trust the gdi system if your oil goes low all this means nothing you’ll have to get a new engine if damaged.
And you have a turbo engine which makes this more dramatic rather than an naturally aspirated engine. Cleaning the valves manually isn’t that hard just do research I did it with basic tools nothing really special I’m not a mechanic but I’ve learned a lot about these engines.
@@JustinKelly sorry bro but your wrong, you don’t filter the air going into the catch can. The air should be filtered when coming out. After it passes through the baffle and cools the air should then be sucked through the filter back into your engine...

Yes it is definitely a preventive maintenance item which will help the engine health in the long run.

@@JustinKelly I mounted mine lower than the pcv valves so gravity could help pull cut cleanly I catch pretty a lot on my 2020 Tucson

I think its acceptable but no where near as deep and loud as others.

I am not entirely sure. I catch can wont hurt on all engines but some surely have more blow by than others.

Yeah my one hose was short too due to human error since they cut them all by hand I guess. Is there no other mounting options for the VT engine bay?

Yup! Only differences may be the mount and hose length depending on where you mount the can.

If its cold outside probably. Condensation will make up a majority of the fluid in colder temps.

It's never too late. It might be worth having the valves inspected and cleaned if necessary while you put this in as well.
