i dont mean to be off topic but does anyone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I somehow lost my login password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
I had one once that really enjoyed interacting with me. I noticed it would always stay by the front of the tank when I was watching it. I started out by putting the tip of my finger at the surface, and eventually it would come up and nibble on it. I then started putting my whole finger in the water, and this gourami would swim over and wrap its whole body around it. It changed my whole perspective on keeping fish.
Mine does it too.. This just freaked me out.. Cuz my chair is right next to my 55 gal and I swear he is watching me.. Had 2, 1 died.. This one I've had 1.5 years..
I bought two blue gouramis around five years ago. They were extremely close and peaceful, one passed away at 3 years old, so I purchased a opaline gourami and they got along perfectly plus very peaceful around my other fish. Now that the oldest blue is getting slow and weaker the opaline almost acts as a protector. I noticed a tiger barb that I had would nip his fins and the opaline would chase it off! The tiger barb is now gone and he’s living out what I think will be his last year!
I love them too but I have had problems with a disease that affects them from breeders. I need to find dwarf gouramis from a good breeder that wont have the disease
My history with Gourami used to be dismal. All your don’ts mentioned were my do’s🤦🏾♂️. I could never keep them past a year. Now, I’ve been successfully keeping 3 large snakeskin Gourami for 9 months in a well planted 55 & they are very healthy if not a bit shy. Those guys have given me hope that I can finally return to permanently keeping them. After all, they’ve been my top 5 fave community fish.
I have 4 snakeskin gouramis and they are the best gourami out there. The 2 gold gouramis in with them quit being aggressive when I added the snakeskin. They're gentle giants and get prettier as they grow.
I’ve had my blue flame for about 3 years now. His name is Ricky and he by far has the most personality of any fish I’ve ever kept. He love eating food out of my hand and actually prefers it most of the time, or if I hold a pinch of food above the water he will spit at it and try and knock it into the water (this is how they catch bugs in nature). I would highly recommend a DG to anyone who likes the way they look (:
@@mrfish.- Hi, how is the fishkeeping going? Do you still consider yourself a beginner? If you are still considering a gourami, and you have a peaceful tank, I would highly recommend the sunset honey gourami. They are very calm, not at all aggressive, and provide just the right amount of colour, in my opinion, to look awesome in the tank.
I always have at least one Gourami in every tank I do. Very characterful fish. Lots of people look to Cichlids when talking of fish with personality, but Gouramis can definitely compete. As for aggression, I've only ever noticed it when they outgrew their tank. If they don't have enough personal space, I find they relentlessly pursue tetras and the like. Once my Opaline hit about 3.5 inches, it became very aggressive until I upgraded the tank size. It had all the same fish in there, but now with no aggression at all.
Followed you guys for a while now , just watched this video, I know 4 years old , however, I've had 2 male perl gourami in my 180litre tank for probably a year now , they chase a little but both seem absolutely fine and not unduly stressed . Tank mates for these are 2 flying foxes, a shoal of rummy noses , shoal of harlequin rasboras, otosinclus and a half dozen Cory cats . Tank is healthy and vibrant . Many thanks to you both , just love your weekly videos 😊
My Opaline grew SO fast. I thought he was gonna be a tank buster but he stopped around 6in, maybe a lil more. He is the most relaxed fish in my entire planted 40G. Never once shown aggression towards any of my fish. I keep him with an adult albino rainbow, two swords, two mollies plus a toddler, kuhlis, snails, and mystery shrimp. My albino rainbow has the tendency to chase my female molly (no one else, idk why, maybe because she’s always pregnant), but my Opaline actually acts as a shield between the two. I’ve seen him come in between them and then smack the rainbow with his antennae to let him know to chill out. He got stuck in a bridge ornament once and sustained some damage to his dorsal, and one of his fins got torn. I put a little aquarium salt in the tank, and about 2 weeks later, he was fully healed and back to himself. You can also HEAR when these Gouramis eat. It sounds like smacking water. Love this fish. Plan on doing a full tank someday.
My husband an I rescued an opaline gourami, who had bullied all the other gouramis in his tank. We tried mollies in with him, but after only a few minutes we took the mollies out. Thanks for this informative video
Man , 1st thank you so much for this video. I wish I had watched it before I had gotten my dwarf goiramies. I got a neon blue first in a 29 gallon. Then one guy at the pet store told me they need a friend to be happier, so I bought another one (red and blue colors) . They were getting along pretty well in the first week, then my nightmare started. Now I’m purchasing another tank just for the red one, he is bullying everyone in my 29 gallon tank. Totally opposite of my blue gourami that is totally peaceful and has lots of personality and is also well behaved. Thank you again for this video. I’m new in this hobby and I have been learning SO MUCH from you lately. ♥️🙏
Same experience a few years ago, when I was recommended to get 2 powder blue dwarf gourami, then watched one bully the other mercilessly. They died within a couple of days of each other, which I attributed to the stress of sharing the tank, as none of the other fish were affected.
When I first started keeping fish I bought two blue dwarf Gourami because I thought they would look nice with my other fish and then just like he said one of them started to get bullied, never made that mistake again
I rescued some Dwarf Gourami's from a pet store that had forgotten about their tank and I love them so much. They'll eat from my hand and so far I've had no aggression hoping it stays that way.
I have a powdered blue and a cobalt blue dwarf gourami in a 55 gallon with some schooling fish. I have some neon tetras in the tank with them. It’s a beautiful set up. I always wondered why they liked to be at the top of the tank so it is definitely a relief learning about them pulling in air. I was always worried that they maybe were stressed or hiding out. I’ve had this set up for about a year now and I haven’t had any issues.
I've had success with multiple Sparkling, Pearl and Dwarf gouramis. Gold/Blue/Opaline... not as bad as two male bettas... but I always end up with one - and that's in a standard 55. I've heard Moonlights are very mild mannered. A bunch of smallish (less than 2") South American tetras make a great display with a single Pearl or Moonlight in a 20-40g tank. Sparkling Gouramis are also known as the Dwarf Croaking Gourami... yep - they croak when kept in a group. Fascinating fish! Thanks for the video on these not-talked-about-enough fish! I find Gouramis are the easiest fish to hand feed; in fact, they will usually peck at my arm if I am cleaning the tank, and are the last fish to run away and hide.
I have a blue gourami and I have him all alone because I had him with my guppies and he ate them and he is very aggressive with any other gourami fish but he is beautiful and knows me very well when I approach the aquarium he will come towards me especially during feeding time. I love watching him he has been a real blessing to our home and especially to me I suffer anxiety and I no longer have to take meds for the anxiety its very calming and relaxing to just watch them. I've had him since it was about 1" and he's about 3.5" now I've had him for about 9 months now.
I love gourami, they're my favorite fish. I have found that snakeskin gourami are the most underrated type out there. They aren't as colorful but they have amazing personalities and interesting behavior.
I had two powder blues in my tank up until this last weekend. They both passed away. 😞. I did a small dose of peroxide to treat some algae and within a day they started having problems. Luckily everybody else is doing fine.
You video was helpful. I should've watched this beforehand, oops! I've got one that's been acting weird but your video answered most of my questions. Thanks!!
Hi there, I have 2 yellow, 2 blue orpalines, 2 pearls, and a red , powder blue female and 1 blue dwarf gourami male. I kept 1 male to all females so they won't get territorial. They are in a 85 gallon tank and I did get them all pretty small and they grew up together. They live with tank mates of cory cat fish and some angle fish. I guess I got lucky as they all stick together for the most part with not alot of aggression towards each other. I did plant my tank fairly heavy and with driftwood, as I tried to give them a natural looking habitat. Thanks for the video and the info. Keep up the good work
Ok so I have 4 female gouramis. 2 pearls and 2 gold , so if I add another and it is male it should be ok ? My girls are a little aggressive but it's not serious. My tank is a 60 gallon and I have a lot of tall very thick plants for hiding spots . I wanted a blue gourami this time . I think they are called three spot or opaline . I want a couple honey gouramis too. I also though the about just adding a male pearl this time . If I have all females than maybe one male wouldn't feel threatened , .
Just got a male blue and female gold 2 days ago. In a 40B heavily live planted tank with yoyo loaches, 12 tiger barbs, Panda Garas, Rubberlip Pleco and ast. Platies. They arent picked on by my largest yoyo who is 7 inches, which is finally a success. My big yoyo HATES sharing space with anything not a bottom feeder. So far so good and the barbs are in a large enough school to not care. Finger crossed they all get along!
I have two sparkling and two honey fire in a 20 gal community, they get along great, honeys like their alone time though. Thinking about getting one more Guorami type. What I love about them is that they notice when you're in the room and actually interact, cool watching them use their rays as well, I've heard they will even come up to you fingers and feel with their rays when you are doing maintenance on the tank.
I have a honey gourami (sunset???) that I thought was female until one day he colored up. He's gorgeous. He lives with 8 black neon tetras and a few male guppies. I made sure to create a territory for him...a big rock and a bunch of plants. It's his fortress. All the other fish just hang out whereas he has to hide.
Nice video man!! Been going through some of your vids and came to this one!! I have a powder blue in a 20 gallon long. Honestly ive had this one for about 1 year and half and i have them in a guppy tank and they have never messed with the guppys or the other way around. All fish get a long and not to mention that i have cherry shrimp in there as well and they have bred sooo many times!! The Gourami is def an eye catcher
Great video buddy, I have a bunch of sparkling gourami in a planted species only tank and I love to watch them....and they ALWAYS watch me watching them and spar for position up front...fun to watch for sure.
Great video very informative. I had one for about 10 years he was a great fish one of my favorites. He was pretty aggressive though with other fish I had to separate. But mine had a good personality he was a very entertaining fish, I miss him old silver boy.
I have 5 sparkling gouramis, 3 Pearl, and one blue straggler and they all get along fine. The male Pearl and the Blue get a little testy now and then but the 3 Pearls and the Blue are pretty social with each other. They all totally ignore the Sparkling gouramis. I have 12 glow light tetras in the tank as well. The tank is heavily planted so plenty of hiding places and things to explore.
I had several Grammys in my 65 great aquarium. Keep going. Community tank. They seem to treat each other on the train, but otherwise I haven't had pretty good luck with them.
I just added a dwarf female to my ten gallon with some guppies and a swordtail, she's been doing great and I'd say she's the star of my tank! She swims next to me when I walk past the tank too, so cute💕
My favorite fish. Regardless of what other fish may come and go from my tanks, I always keep a gold or blue three spot in one of my aquariums. They are beautiful fish.
I have 3 dwarf gouramis in a ten gallon tank..their great!..Their pretty much peaceful in nature...they liked to nip each other at first..but once they became more acquainted with each other , they became more friendly and less aggressive towards each other...their great tank mates with my Tetras..never bothered them.
the blue/gold/opaline gouramis can be tricky to keep together. Males will almost always fight and they tend to be relentless. Females will fight, but they don't normally take it quite as far. Keeping them in a heavily planted tank with lots of refuge and breaks in sight will be a huge help. That will keep the fighting down and give the weaker fish a place to retreat. Also works well for Betta sororities.
Just bought 4 females for my 10gl tank. It’s heavily planted in soil. Will be purchasing more lower plants for the shrimp and 2 dwarf frogs to hide in. They are amazing looking fish, do notice they eat a lot and start to nil at each other. Hopefully after a few more hiding places and feeding times in order things will change. We’ll see how it goes
I just introduced two gouramis to my new planted tank I had a lot of BBA and they ate it all along with some of the vegetation. Not too much aggression between the fish they were in the same tank when I bought them. For the most part they’ve just been keeping my tank clean
ive had my 3 gouramis for 4 months now, unfortunatly i had to seperate one of them (the smallest) because he was being bullied by the two larger gouramis, but ive have a gold gourami and a 3 spot gourami roughly the same size cohabitat in my fish tank with some tetras and corys. heavily planted in some areas of steam plants, and i found my gouramis dont tend to bicker as much in warmer temperatures like 26-28 degrees celcius and they get along great and their patterns and colours really pop.
My Blue Opaline Gourami lives in a fully planted 40 breeder with four black mollies and a Betta. All the fish get along great together. The betta likes to swim around with the mollies. And the gourami just does his own thing. Lots of floating plants like hornwort and duckweed. I wouldn’t add another gourami or betta, but I might at another three female mollies. It’s fun to watch them swim in a straight line across the front of the tank with the betta following along behind. Might add a single pleco as well.
I had a Snakeskin Gourami at one time and it was one of my favorite fish all time. It grew about 8 inches and had a nice temperament never bothered anybody.
I've had no problems with keeping blues and opaline varieties with Oscar's, geophagus and green Texas cichlids with no problem. Very underrated fish, full of personality and can definitely hold their own. Nice video👍
I’ve kept various species of gourami in the past.... Dwarf, Honey, Pearl, Moonlight, and Banded. Of those species, I would say the banded gourami was the most aggressive and didn’t stay in that tank very long, but was a beautiful fish. The dwarf gourami had some aggressive moments too, especially in a small tank. They were both kept as singles in a community with other gourami present in a 125 gallon tank. I had a small group of pearl gourami at one time and they were quite peaceful for the most part, even with other gourami present. At another point, they co-habitated with moonlight gourami, and the moonlights were fairly mellow also. All of them at one point or another were kept in the 125 gallon tank, so having that space really helped keep any bickering down.
You are absolutely correct. The blue gourami, the opaline gourami, three spot gourami and their all other colour variants(males). They are very agressive to other gouramis expecially males. In my experience the moonlight gourami is the peaceful among gouramis. Gouramis are one of my favourite aquarium fishes of all time.
I just purchased 2 more gauramis after my tank went downhill, and all my fish died except for 1 blue dwarf gaurami. I recently purchased a gold and black, and a 3 spot gaurami. When I introduced them into my 45gl, the dwarf gaurami was the one chasing the 2 new ones around for a hour or two. But since then, they seem to not be fighting or chasing one another. And I also have a 1 1/2 inch Pleco. I also have 2 air stones and a small filter with power head combined with my hang over the side filter. After watching these videos, I'm thinking of taking the small filter with power head out, so there is not so much current in water.
I wish I found this video before I got my gouramis. I got two golden gouramis in a 25 gallon tank. One kept chasing the other around, the next morning I found it dead. I got another replacement... sure enough the same thing happened again. Now he’s on his own with two Pearl gouramis... thankfully all is well at the moment but I won’t try adding more gouramis any more!
I must be doing something right. I have 9 male Blue Gouramis, no other fish, in my 55 gallon tank for almost a year. They sometimes chase each other. But, only a short distance. I have hiding plants in the back corners and in the middle. Seems like they all have a place they like best to hang out. This is my first tank. So, I am glad it isn't a problem
I love both the blue and gold variants of this fish, I kept them as a kid in a 20 gallon tank, however, I think I had multiple males as the most dominant one of the bunch always chased the others. I remember finding one dead stuck to the filter one day. Beautiful fish, but you need to pair them with ideal tank mates.
got my blue three spot gourami with a school of golden barbs and corydoras. I watched the gouramis at the store and picked one with a feisty enough personality that I knew it would be able to defend itself while also not becoming the tank bully. I'd advise you just take a moment to consider individual personalities, they are the reason people's experiences with gouramis are so diverse. But yea my wee gourami has been fine, she established herself at the top of the hierarchy so noone else bothers her and she doesn't chase or harass the other fish except on rare occasions when she feels particularly attached to a piece of food. She's been a family pet too, very personable and interested in humans.
I have a huge moonlight gourami, a blue two spot, and three pearl gourami. Initially I had one pearl, and it was resting at the bottom of the tank. I got two more, and now they're happy as ever, following eachother around like a little family. I don't see any agression at all between any of the gourami, but the blue is hands down the alpha, I think they're very confident fish
You may have only one or no male Pearl Gourami. Males, in my experience, fight constantly. Usually, the alpha will bully any other male to death. Mixing conspecifics is risky too. I mixed a Pearl, a Moonlite and a Blue, and got complete bedlam
Mine have been doing totally fine for the last few months, so its probably just a bad experiance for you, and I have males, all three pearls are males and get along fine. The pearls are the most shy fish in the tank, and I even keep tiny neon green rasbora in with the gourami. Never seen one of my pearls bully anything.
I've had Frank the powder blue dwarf gourami for a few weeks now. He's definitely tank boss, in a 20L with platys and ember tetras. Papa platy continually tries to mate with him and he gets angry and goes after Papa and Baby Girl (one of the now adult females - can easily identify as she's nearly solid black). But she keeps hanging around him and I think it's now a game for her! Regular platys can definitely hold their own with a dwarf gourami.
I have two dwarf gourami (1 flame 1 blue neon) in a 30gal they share with a small school of white skirt tetras, a bristlenose pleco, and a few mystery snails. They all seem to get along very well. I suspect both Gouramis are female is why they don't bully each other or the other fish. They tend to hang out with the tetras and take turns swimming over the long air stone in the back of the tank, riding the current up to the top. Then they all turn around and go the other way like a line for a ride at an amusement park! It's hilarious to watch and they appear to have a lot of fun doing it. Both Gouramis tend to eat slower than the tetras, so I tend to feed them both from my fingers to make sure the tetras don't outcompete them for food. Lovely fish and perfect for the little community of fish they share the tank with.
I’ve had kissing, blue and dwarf gourami at different times..they mostly got along well with the other fish only at times the kissing gouramis were aggressive and it would die down after a while
Just saw this video! I love Gouramies. I have a 65 with 3 Blue spotted, 1 Gold, and 3 dwarfs....with 4 angels and 5 firemouths and somehow.....its very peacefull. Granted, its a very planted/scaped tank with tons of rocks and cave systems leftover from convicts/parrots and the gouramies utilize all the setup. I know its not a "normal" setup....but it works. Wish I could post pic of "Goldie"...hes probablt 5-6"
I have 6 (1 male and 5 female) blue Gourami in a 450 liter tank with neon tetra, gold barb, platy and a few Ancistrus albino - and its such a wonderful chill tank and the Gourami is a great centerpiece fish
I had pearl guramis as a child and it was lovely! They came up to the glas to great me and everything! They were so gentle! 💕 After my pearls passed I got blue guramis and they killed each other off, and the last one standing died of stress. Then I picked out yellow guramis insteed hoping they'd be different, and they were calmer and lived longer, but it ended the same as the blues. 😔
I have 2 dwarf gouramies (male and female) in 17 gal. tank. At the beginning female was bit bigger, so she aggressively chaised male. I have planted tank, this helped a lot. In addition, I reduced the light a bit. Now both are same size and aggression is gone.
about keeping multiple in a tank, there is an exception: honey gouramis. if you get honeys I strongly encourage you to get multiple as they are a social fish
Gouramis are absolutely nuts. They say the Pearls are extremely peaceful but in my experience they’re just as crazy as opalines. They’re extremely territorial and aggressive towards smaller fish. I could not keep mine in a community tank they were just so mean and nasty. I ended up putting them with my South American cichlids. They do just fine. I like gouramis but they are a headache if placed in the wrong setting. I strongly recommend placing them in a semi-aggressive tank. But always monitor them closely. They have tons of personality and they’re incredibly hardy fish. They’ll make a great addition as long as you’re careful.
Oh I'm glad I checked! I bought 3 regular dwarf, and 2 platinum (one without one eye named one eyed willie). One platinum is a bit of a fast movie but they have left other fish alone so far. Then one regular dwarf died so I was thinking about going and getting more. I think I'll just keep what I have!
I had a blue gouramis/ 3 spot take on a firemouth and won..both fish were about 3- 3.5 inches in size. Firemouth started the fight the blue gourami finished it, at the end the gourami was chasing the firemouth non stop, this is where the back up -lan comes in quite handy. Extra aquariums🙂👍🏻
Thanks for your video. .A long time ago i kept them together (trichogaster leeri ) also the variant in blue together with discus and corydoras (aneus) it was the Best tank i have got. It was a 400 gallon paradise. .maybe you can make another video of the Varietés of the Most important gouramis? I love to watch this channel. .hope to see you soon
I loved my baby dwarf gourami, but he wasn't with me for more than a few months. During that time, he was an inquisitive, adorable fish. I moved him to a 5 gallon, at some juncture, with a female white-skirt tetra. They appeared to get along -- there was no overt aggression -- but he began to "fail" (hiding all the time) following the move. Where he thrived was in a 1-gallon Edgelit, likely because he was an "only," there, and he responded to the feedings. PTA (Prime Time) said something in the video about water currents, and I wonder if the increased current in the 5-gallon affected him (where there was zero current in the 1-gallon). Anyway, I believe in fish reincarnation, so I will look forward to having him with me again.
"Giant" gouramis? I didn't know they make those. Yes, I have heard of aggression in gouramis (inter-male). My dwarf (gourami) did not swim apace with the Buenos Aires tetras in my tank. They are too "boss" to tank-share with gouramis.
I have had the blue and gold for years. At first, I bought several. Big mistake! However, I gave the males to another friend who set up a tank specifically for them. 5 years later, I have kept 5 females together in a 75 gallon with lots of plants, caves, rock homes and bridges. I change it up and have noticed they swim around much more when I'm a little heavier on the decor. My friend has been successful in keeping three males, but absolutely no females in the tank. My Conclusion: It's ok to have more than one if they are all female. Peaceful community tank over here!
I have a Gourami tank. Pearls, Lavenders, Blues and Opaline. And a few black skirt tetras. I have not had any issues with agression. I think it is because I had my Pearls first, let them get big, then introduced the Lavenders as babies, then once they were big, introduced the Blues as babies then the Opalines as babies. The tetras were introduced after the Pearls and before the the Lavenders. I have them in a 125 with a good canister filter that doesn't create a lot of current and a bubble mist bar. If any of them ever become an issue I have other tanks I can move them too. 2 - 75gallons and a 55 gallon that all have room.
So, I i did exactly what youre not supposed to do. I put an Opaline with a Dwarf. The Opaline was a female and the Dwarf a male. I don't know if that is what saved me or I just got lucky but they love each other. The Opaline female is always putting her feelers on the Dwarf and they swim together. Worse yet; they're in a 29 gallon, lol. 🤦 I recently bought two female Dwarfs and they're in quarantine for the next 4-6 weeks. I am pretty-sure this will upset the apple cart. I decided I am going to buy 55 gallon and move the Opaline to that tank while the Dwarfs are in quarantine. Im going to miss watching 👀 the Opaline hug the Dwarf with those outstretched feelers. 🥰
You should do a video on the Croaking Gourami (Trichopsis Vittata) it's a beautiful, and one of the most peaceful freshwater aquarium Fish out there !! 🤎💚
Have totally different experiences with dwarfs than you do it seems / most gentle non aggressive fish I’ve owned. Never saw a nip so maybe there are some dwarfs I’ve never seen / own about 40 over 8 different aquascape tanks - good video though 👍
TRA A I had two and they FOUGHT LIKE CRAZY! At first they didn’t mind each other and then one day they just came at each other like crazy😭 till one died
Yes I did some more reading - I think because my tanks are 70% rocks and plants there are dozens of “territories”. For example, there is only about 9 gallons of water on one of my 20 gallon tanks - loaded with plants, rocks & wood. I think maybe when they have more territory options they seem to feel safer.
Had and brea them as well, never a problem. At the moment I have a pair of honey and chocolate gouramis, I'm trying to get them to breed, they peaceful, especially in a aquarium with plenty of vegitation.
Sadly I just lost my powder blue dwarf gourami today. I only had him maybe one month. I had him in a 10 gallon with two buenos aires tetras, one corydora (one inch), one VERY benign female betta (who is more like a puppy than a fish), one otocinlclus and two rescued neon tetras. I realize now that this was two small regardless of what store had posted. He seemed ( i supposed it was a he) to be very happy for 3 weeks, him and the female betta always hanging together, eating together because they were way more layed back than the faster moving tetras and cory. I also had three lava rocks with medium sized (varied anubias attached) for hiding and relaxing as well as a very nice arched piece of driftwood which also provided great cover/shading, etc. My lighting wasn't super bright as I have heard they don't do not like super bright tanks and also plenty of access to gulp fresh air. I had a calm water surface, so no overly strong flow.... and just within last 3 days I noticed a changed in behavior..not as ferociously ready and excited to eat..and yesterday he was down at bottom of tank under the arch of the drift wood, finally last night he was resing in an odd position but upon arousing him and monitoring he seemed normal. One thing I will note that was very unfortunate that happened within the first two days was pectoral fins (the feelers) were nipped off, not completely but almost half the length was gone. ( I assume that had to be the slow cause of death, but I thought they would heal with appropriate water changes and treatment for secondary infections with Erythromyacin(not sure i spelled correctly)....anyways I am devastated. He/she was so miled mannered and precious, no agression that I ever witnessed. So, I am a bit stumped with the sudden death (and he was still eating until yesterday) I heard too much protein based foods can be a problem, is this true?
i got two wild pearl gouramis, put them in a tank i had with 3 mollies and 6 long finned red tetras, and they're doing well so far. it's only been a couple of days, but they seem to know their bounds already. it seems like they are kinda indifferent to flake food though so i'm going to trying some bloodworms and maybe some fish tablets
I have a 30 gallon tank. I have a blue gourami & guppeys together. I've never had a problem with the Gourami being a mean or aggressive fish. My big mistake was getting a female and male guppey.they constantly breed like whoa slow down a bit.. I'm thinking of seperating the male from the female Guppy's. I just hav too many. honestly I want other kinds of fish as well. I should mention I used to hav a catfish shark. That was what it listed as the kind of fish it was. I was never told it got bigger and bigger. It got to be 15 inches. It died 2 winters ago (an accident) but there was not a problem with that getting along with the gourami as well. I was getting nervous on its size & at the time was looking fr a bigger tank but it died so I won't ever get that kind fish again . I enjoyed watching yr video. By now.Terri
I currently have three baby Gouramis two blue, one is black and orange w/ white stripes my personal favorite. Call me crazy I acclimated and put them in a tank w/ my sons Neon Tetras to grow and and understand community! They are very communal of the tank. Also as baby's can eat the same food!
Got some dwarf gouramis, we had a pearl but he would chase the others, since removing him and replacing with a small tetra dwarf gourami and adding some more smaller fish. So far so good bar our Molly who thinks he can play with the gouramis.
My first fish were a pair of platinum gouramis. One of them would chase the other all over the tank, even when I upgraded to double the size tank it would still chase it around to where I would need to separate them. Eventually the bully got stuck behind my sponge filter and drowned to death and the other could live in peace. I would never put two gouramis together again, they were flat out ruthless.
Mainly kept dwarfs but it is a toss up on behavior. Kept a bunch of females with 2-3 males in heavily planted tank worked out ok. You are right though about it being better to keep it to just 1 to keep it simple. Almost always get a pecking order when more than one in a tank together. Hardy fish but seems really susceptible to Fin Rot and just rapidly die when that occurs
I had my first experience with a paradise fish the other week.. got given it as a dwarf gourami... had no where to put it so it had to go in my big tank overnight.... it killed my big gold striped gourami and 3 tetras overnight... now have another 2 tanks with the kuller paradise fish and a killer cichlid... both given to me... dam wish people would research before getting aggressive fish and then giving the buggers to me!!!
I just recently placed several male dwarfs in a tank with some goldfish and they seem to be doing well. However I did notice that sometimes they linger near the bottom, so I may have to check my water soon. But so far all is looking well.
I have 2 pearl and a opaline gourami and moonlight and 2 angel fish in mine and an pleco and 2 gold fish they all get on so well so mesmerising to watch
I tried 3 times and got successful 3rd time. Currently have 4 gouramis 3 male 1 female living peacefully. 2 are golden and 2 are blue. The trick is to buy all from sams seller and add all at the same time. If they show aggression remove them and change the tank setting. Then try again.

Prime Time Aquatics I’ve had mine with loaches, Australian rainbows, mollys, blacktip sharks, silver sharks and tiger barbs. Got along well with all.
Great way to talk about this important detail!!!
I have 4 dwarf gouramis in my 20gal tank and so far so good.
Thank you again!!!!!♥️🙏
i dont mean to be off topic but does anyone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account??
I somehow lost my login password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
I had one once that really enjoyed interacting with me. I noticed it would always stay by the front of the tank when I was watching it. I started out by putting the tip of my finger at the surface, and eventually it would come up and nibble on it. I then started putting my whole finger in the water, and this gourami would swim over and wrap its whole body around it. It changed my whole perspective on keeping fish.
It's funny how some fish have awesome personalities!
Mine does it too.. This just freaked me out.. Cuz my chair is right next to my 55 gal and I swear he is watching me.. Had 2, 1 died.. This one I've had 1.5 years..
@@CarsonPalmerFan what other kind of fish do you have it with?
Same thing with my angel fish lol
I just adopted my first Blue he does the same thing.
Interesting
The Dwarf variety is so beautiful, my personal favorite.
I've had some b4, they are beautiful.
Genisis Armstrong are they aggressive? I have platys and danios. I might get 1 Gourami
7:32 What kind of gouramie is it?
@@brandonpen1165 I have a male dwarf and he's left my cory school alone. They have tons of personality
Glad it's working out better!
I want to get one sooooo bad, but the internet says they are fragile and not quite beginner friendly :(
Do you think I can keep multiple of DG (m/f) in a reg 40?
@@mrfish.- Hi, how is the fishkeeping going? Do you still consider yourself a beginner? If you are still considering a gourami, and you have a peaceful tank, I would highly recommend the sunset honey gourami. They are very calm, not at all aggressive, and provide just the right amount of colour, in my opinion, to look awesome in the tank.
Do you think I can keep this cute fish with my neon tetras?
@@davesuals what size tank?
I always have at least one Gourami in every tank I do. Very characterful fish. Lots of people look to Cichlids when talking of fish with personality, but Gouramis can definitely compete. As for aggression, I've only ever noticed it when they outgrew their tank. If they don't have enough personal space, I find they relentlessly pursue tetras and the like. Once my Opaline hit about 3.5 inches, it became very aggressive until I upgraded the tank size. It had all the same fish in there, but now with no aggression at all.
I’ve had the same problem with having 2 Guoramis together. They would always chase each other and peck at one another. Great video!
Are they both males? If they are then they will kill each other
I have 2 females, one 3 dot, and one opaline. The females still chase eachother lol. Dont understand
@@baileytadlock1623 Your female gouramis are in a small tank or the tank is not heavily planted so they battle for territory. I'm pretty sure
Sayed Gaming how can you tell the difference
@@baileytadlock1623 aren't 3 spot and opaline the same?
Followed you guys for a while now , just watched this video, I know 4 years old , however, I've had 2 male perl gourami in my 180litre tank for probably a year now , they chase a little but both seem absolutely fine and not unduly stressed . Tank mates for these are 2 flying foxes, a shoal of rummy noses , shoal of harlequin rasboras, otosinclus and a half dozen Cory cats . Tank is healthy and vibrant . Many thanks to you both , just love your weekly videos 😊
Pearl Gouramis are usually ok together. We have a group of 15 in a 55 gallon and they do well together!
Thanks for watching! Glad you are able to straighten everything out!
I've heard them make that noise too! : -) I like the moonlights a lot, but for whatever reason had a hard time keeping that particular fish alive.
A gourami in the right environment can be very relaxing!
I love gourami, they're my favorite fish. I have found that snakeskin gourami are the most underrated type out there. They aren't as colorful but they have amazing personalities and interesting behavior.
They are cool!
I had a wonderful honey gourami and some powder blues. I agree they are the canary in the coal mine; sensitive to water parameters.
Have always love these fish.
My dwarf gourami is named dwan he was my favorite fish i had him for 3 years he was so cool he lived with a bunch of fish
Absolutely love my 3 spot. Does well with everything in my tank. Almost like a playful guardian
I've had a male and two female pearl gouramis in a moderately planted 40 gallon breeder for several months, and so far it's worked well.
Good to hear - thanks for sharing!
Gourami is my favorite fish all time. Then comes oscars. After that are a tie for various loaches/bottom feeders.
Kaiosama_Mrio good to hear!
Great video buddy, I have a bunch of sparkling gourami in a planted species only tank and I love to watch them....and they ALWAYS watch me watching them and spar for position up front...fun to watch for sure.
That’s cool! Ours do the same thing!
Great video very informative. I had one for about 10 years he was a great fish one of my favorites. He was pretty aggressive though with other fish I had to separate. But mine had a good personality he was a very entertaining fish, I miss him old silver boy.
Mine now likes to try and attack some of my South American Cichlids in the 150 gallon. : -)
Wow.... Love your dark blue or black gourami. Very unique colour. 👍
I love the personality of these! Have 4 atm
Very nice. Just keep an eye on the gourami and the swordtail. Sometimes they like to fight a little. It might be ok too.
My favorite fish. Regardless of what other fish may come and go from my tanks, I always keep a gold or blue three spot in one of my aquariums. They are beautiful fish.
I always have at least one too!
They are angry
Good to hear. Would love to hear how they are working out once they get established (and larger). Thanks for sharing.
Have a couple of sunset graumies and they are fun to watch no aggressive behavior at all.
ive had my 3 gouramis for 4 months now, unfortunatly i had to seperate one of them (the smallest) because he was being bullied by the two larger gouramis, but ive have a gold gourami and a 3 spot gourami roughly the same size cohabitat in my fish tank with some tetras and corys. heavily planted in some areas of steam plants, and i found my gouramis dont tend to bicker as much in warmer temperatures like 26-28 degrees celcius and they get along great and their patterns and colours really pop.
Something to think about when the time comes....thanks for sharing....
Thanks for the very informative video! I’d like to have a honey gourami one day. I’ll definitely be referring back to your video!
I've had no problems with keeping blues and opaline varieties with Oscar's, geophagus and green Texas cichlids with no problem. Very underrated fish, full of personality and can definitely hold their own. Nice video👍

Glad I can help 😀
Nice video. I currently have 2 Pearl Gouramis in my 55 along with Angelfish and some Julidochromis. Fairly peaceful.
They’ve been the most peaceful of the large gouramis for me.
Appreciate you sharing your experience.
Ya, I have gouramis that challenge some larger cichlids.
I've seen it done and your setup is usually when it's most effective - lots of them in a tank. :-)
Good point!
Lots of good info. Very relevant. Thanks.
Glad they are working well for you!
That's cool! Glad it is working!
I have 6 (1 male and 5 female) blue Gourami in a 450 liter tank with neon tetra, gold barb, platy and a few Ancistrus albino - and its such a wonderful chill tank and the Gourami is a great centerpiece fish
That would be cool to watch!
I had pearl guramis as a child and it was lovely! They came up to the glas to great me and everything! They were so gentle! 💕
After my pearls passed I got blue guramis and they killed each other off, and the last one standing died of stress. Then I picked out yellow guramis insteed hoping they'd be different, and they were calmer and lived longer, but it ended the same as the blues. 😔
I’ve had a mixed gourami and angel tank now for nearly six months all doing well and some pairing has started.
I have 2 dwarf gouramies (male and female) in 17 gal. tank. At the beginning female was bit bigger, so she aggressively chaised male. I have planted tank, this helped a lot. In addition, I reduced the light a bit. Now both are same size and aggression is gone.
about keeping multiple in a tank, there is an exception: honey gouramis. if you get honeys I strongly encourage you to get multiple as they are a social fish
absolutely agree! I’ve got 2 females and a male and their group behavior is so incredible to watch
@@ameliej6690 I have 2 females, they're a lot of fun.
That's probably a good idea.
Thank you! That sounds like an awesome set-up!
That Bala Shark is so awesome
I have had the blue and gold for years. At first, I bought several. Big mistake! However, I gave the males to another friend who set up a tank specifically for them. 5 years later, I have kept 5 females together in a 75 gallon with lots of plants, caves, rock homes and bridges. I change it up and have noticed they swim around much more when I'm a little heavier on the decor. My friend has been successful in keeping three males, but absolutely no females in the tank.
My Conclusion: It's ok to have more than one if they are all female. Peaceful community tank over here!
That was my experience years ago. Thanks so much for the info. ONE it is!
Hey Rebecca - thanks for sharing your experience.
Very informative Jason. I’ve kept them before (blue) had 3 of them in a 55 years ago.
Cool!
2 - 75gallons and a 55 gallon that all have room.
once I separated mine from the angels everything was fine except he often chases his refection and I worry that he'll tire himself out too much
Wouldn't It stop if it got tired?
So, I i did exactly what youre not supposed to do. I put an Opaline with a Dwarf. The Opaline was a female and the Dwarf a male. I don't know if that is what saved me or I just got lucky but they love each other. The Opaline female is always putting her feelers on the Dwarf and they swim together. Worse yet; they're in a 29 gallon, lol. 🤦
I recently bought two female Dwarfs and they're in quarantine for the next 4-6 weeks.
Lots of surface plants too.. with long vines that touch the bottom nearly... : )
First! Awsome video sir thanks. Happy fishkeeping
Sorry that happened. Tough to say if it was the food or something.
i got two wild pearl gouramis, put them in a tank i had with 3 mollies and 6 long finned red tetras, and they're doing well so far. it's only been a couple of days, but they seem to know their bounds already. it seems like they are kinda indifferent to flake food though so i'm going to trying some bloodworms and maybe some fish tablets
That tinfoil barb is amazing!!!
Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I currently have three baby Gouramis two blue, one is black and orange w/ white stripes my personal favorite. Call me crazy I acclimated and put them in a tank w/ my sons Neon Tetras to grow and and understand community! They are very communal of the tank. Also as baby's can eat the same food!
Help me name my Gouramis
Got some dwarf gouramis, we had a pearl but he would chase the others, since removing him and replacing with a small tetra dwarf gourami and adding some more smaller fish. So far so good bar our Molly who thinks he can play with the gouramis.
Best gorurami video on themtube, thanks again.
Thank you!
Great fish!. My first tropical was a Paradise fish, lots of personality. Another great video, hope you have a great day mate.
Cool! Thanks
I've had 2 males and they are great together
I have a community tank 29 gallons
And I have a blue Gouramis And I also have five bottom Fish and two catfish and they all get along just fine
