  • A video of Andrew Dodge's (Master Model Railroader) On3 layout depicting the Denver, South Park & Pacific Railroad (DSP&P) in Colorado in 1882. Andrew's layout is an historically accurate representation of the DSP&P in the proper 3 scale foot gauge.
You are taken on a trip over the line with commentary by the owner.

I have a dear friend, Leonard Walmsley, who is a retired Rio Grande and UP engineer whose retirement home site is situated on the DSP&P's right of way in Pine, CO, so that makes this incredible video even more interesting to me personally.
Sad to learn from the video that Andrew's South Park, just like it's prototype, is no more. His creation and the almost superhuman effort and patience that it represents is something that the vast majority of modelers could only dream of. It stands as a monument to the five decades of vision, unbelievable attention to historical and geological detail, and indefatigable devotion to goal of a remarkable and eclectictically skilled craftsman. All of us model railroad geeks the world over are very fortunate that Andrew's efforts have been preserved in this wonderful video! 👍🐻🇺🇲

Thank you so, so much for sticking with On3 instead of On30. Simply beautiful.

We have a cabin near the right of way between Buffalo and Bailey. The detail of the rocks and trees is so accurate . The Como Roundhouse is a nice inclusion and the tank on top of Boreas pass looks very realistic. I am somewhat surprised that this museum quality work no longer exists.

@0:10 Interesting logo the DSP&P once had. Such fine American narrow gauge locomotives, too.

    Beautiful layout !!
Sad to hear it has gone, seems like such a waste. This was built to such a high standard that it could have been opened to the public. I'm sure the new layout will be every bit as good and I hope we get to see it. I kept looking for those "train-set" elements that spoil so many large layouts but I didn't find a single one. This is a true, proper model railway.😁👍

Andrew is a prolific modeler; no moss grows under his feet! The successor to the DSP&P was Andrew's P48 Colorado Midland in 1897. Highlighted in another of my videos. I said 'was' because the CM is now gone, to be replaced by a model of Maine two-footers. Stay tuned!

Outstanding. Wire on the telegraph poles, yes. Scenery tops, trees, buildings tops. I would suggest crew figures for the locomotives.

I have to say you did an excellent job on the modeling. Both the scenery and the structures. Better than most of the layouts I've seen.

Masterful modeling of a unique railroad with great historical accuracy. I thoroughly enjoyed the narration, interview and video editing. Well produced.

Not many early renditions of Como, excellent to see, the Gilman Hotel shown did not have the porch all the way across the front at this time, that was a Pacific Hotel addition, the extension was flat roofed as shown but set slightly back from the original Hotel. The Roundhouse has a stationary boiler inside it at the back right and a tall chimney sticking out the roof.

Amazing video! I always loved this layout as a kid, was very sad to hear that it is long gone. Also, any way we can get a version of the video with just the trains? I do like the interview with Dodge, but I'd also like to be able to sit back and just watch trains run without needing to listen to the interview at times.

heartbroken its gone. I've followed this since the first time i saw it in the gazette, and it only made my love for the South Park stronger. Truly was apiece of art I wish I could have experienced in person.
curious if any part of it were saved?? i would have given mye eye teeth for the canyon section!

    • @2railoscale

Track width for On3 is .75 inch (36 scale inches. O scale running on HO track is On30 (30 scale inches between the rails.

Beautiful stuff! Narrator's note: "Boreas Pass"....should be pronounced "bore'-ee-ass"

What a great video but the sound quality absolutely sucks. We can barely hear the builder over the sounds of the locomotives. Next time please reduce the volume of the trains when the builder is narrating and visa versa. Beautiful railroad and great video but it sure was hard to watch and listen to.
