Jeep Wrangler TJ power Steering Pump Replacement.
Power steering cooler from Amazon: amzn.to/2TSjIRM
I upgrade the power steering pump in my 1997 Jeep wrangler TJ with a PSC Replacement pump Part # SP1205.

My original plan to install the Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ pump with an external reservoir. This plan didn't work on the first attempt and i didn't want to mess with it anymore. So i decided to buy a PSC pump.

Looks nice I’ll probably have to do something similar on my Ls Wrangler been bouncing around the idea of a cooler since I’m on 37’s and it’s not that difficult to do not sure yet how the gm pump will do but I feel it will probably be fine

I think the gm pump will definitely be better than the tiny factory pumps on the Tj. A cooler is a cheap and easy upgrade, and hopefully will give the pump some longevity.

Hello, and thank you for the video, it is very helpful..
I have a question , I have a mercedes c320 year 2001, and I have a power steering that is not so smooth as I expected for a mercedes . Have been told that on this model mercedes wanted to give a stiffer steering for a sporty sensation.......
Since I have a disability I need a lighter steering .. Do you have any tips for me, maybe changing and upgrading the power steering pump or more?It would be very helpful .
    Thanking you in advance,
    John

I have been thinking about doing this to mine. Thanks for the hot to. Also, who makes that electric fan you have? It seems like tons of space with the OEM fan and shroud gone.

The radiator and fan was just an eBay combo, I believe it was ASI. It was $195 for both radiator and fan. Thanks for watching!

I'm not fond of the steering in my TJ. Have you ever thought about getting hydro assist or going full hydraulic?
If you had unlimited funds and time what steering upgrades would you get?
I'm wondering why you would spend money on your steering and not upgrade it? Too expensive? Not a good thing to do?

This video was years ago, I built my own high steer setup and have hydro assist for almost 2 years now. Just buying parts as I can afford it.

What did you use for power steering fluid?

Maybe I misunderstood, did you hook the cooler up to the return line or the pressure line?

looking at the same PS cooler for my SAS'd explorer, do those little clips hold it on well enough while wheeling? was worried when I looked at them

Why couldnt you use the WJ pump?

    • @MuddyBeards4X4
      @MuddyBeards4X4  5 років тому +2

I wasn’t able to use that one because it had a threaded bung in the return feed, and I wasn’t able to get the external reservoir to feed the pump properly and it was starving the pump. Nate was throwing that pump away because it was noisy, and he had 3 other WJ pumps and he said they were all noisy. I had lofty goals of trying to make it work. I could have bought another WJ pump, but I decided to just go with something I knew would work. I drilled out the fitting to match the WJ size and swapped the valving into the TJ pump and It seemed to make no difference, that’s why I just went with a high quality “stock” PSC pump.

The only other thing you would need besides the pump and cooler kit would be the pulley puller/installer kit. Thanks for watching!
