Why I Never Made a Video on this MAJOR Steering Upgrade... Hydro Assist!!

- Why didn't i make this video sooner!!
Alot of you guys have asked me about my Hydraulic Assist setup.
In the past, i always told myself that this wasnt "The Best" setup. But clearly it has been working out perfectly fine for me!
Hydro assist is the best way to beef up your steering for larger tires.
Not only does it give us more turning power, it also takes a huge load off the steering box and frame.
Once you start looking at 37" tires and larger, this is an upgrade that you really need to start considering. You can build a setup like me, or even go with a full kit from PSC.
Here is a link to PSC, and as you will see there are alot of different options for steering box upgrades. If you have any questions about different options, feel free to ask me in the comments!

Here is a link to my DIY hose chafing gear. This is a great way to add some protection to your lines.

Redneck Ram is also a great choice for steering boxes and rams. They are a little more budget friendly. www.westtexaso...
No matter what you choose, hydro assist will be an amazing upgrade for your Jeep Wrangler. It will help both on road and offroad.
Its not only a "RockCrawling" Upgrade either.
An overlander with larger tires and extra weight will benefit immensely.
Thanks for watching! And be sure to check out Cassies channel Jeep Gear and Gadgets for the LJ axle swap!!
Fluid Film, this stuff is amazing, just very stinky haha amzn.to/39gljVz
Finally, a youtuber here to spread knowledge and not just sell sponsored items.
Great content - as always. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! Stay healthy and safe.
I couldn't of made this comment without my apple phone and high speed internet connection . Use me code sellout5 for 5 percent off internet and phones 🤣 . That's usually when I'm
Like alright I'm out
What's wrong with selling sponsored products, every UA-camr dreams of getting sponsored by someone who has products that they are using.
UA-cam can be an actual career if you have lots of subscribers & a sponsor to pay you for what you love doing & not need to have a primary job. Sponsorship is an awesome thing to have.
I would not pass up a sponsorship & I doubt you would pass up that opportunity either
Love this channel because anyone who does work on their Jeep in crocs and shorts is alright with me! UA-cam is about DIY. If I want fluff I can go over to Lite Brite.
Lite Bright is the worst. Just a channel about ritch folks running their vehicles into the ground and throwing cash away. I had to ban that BS channel.
@@kg2995 They don't throw cash away everything is given to them.
K G how about “Mr and Mrs Overlander”? That channel hurts my brain.
Randy Pruett because he puts his wife in the light with tight clothes.....
@@sbranham86 I don't think he forces her to do anything. She seems perfectly capable of making her own decisions. As long as they are happy with their channel that's all that matters. No one is required to watch.
If anyone is taking advantage it is the companies that see a new form of advertisement. You see the same products everywhere. I am sure some of them are good and there is nothing wrong with receiving a product from a manufacturer and trying it out. The only thing the viewer can ask for is the knowledge that a product has been provided for no cost.
EVERY SINGLE TIME I have an issue I search UA-cam and your video is exactly what I needed to see!! You think of everything! Thanks for sharing!!
i see youre a man of culture with those wrenching crocs
Please never stop making videos! I’ve learned a lot!
I got 42"s with a PSC ram, a stock gear box I drilled and tapped myself, and I use the stock GM Saginaw power steering pump. No cooler and no reservoir, been running it for 2 years and with not a single hiccup. I didn't find a need for anything else, keep it simple
Which GM pump? Part number?
Bolt in?
Thanks!
Which GM pump? Part number?
Bolt in? Thanks!
If you’re going to do an LS swap and the big bore box are you going to have to move the box forward 1inch,do it before you put the motor in, yes that is the voice of experience !!!
you're not our dad
we do what we want
Greaaaaaaaaat. Now I have to hide a PSC from my wife. 🤷♂️ Thanks Ben
Just installed the PSC big bore kit with pump and cooler. Didn’t do the ram because they recommend not flat towing with the ram connected. I tow behind my Motorhome a lot. I’m running 37’s with a Rubicon 44 axle. I love this setup and yes I did get it upgradable to the ram later. Awesome video, I love the way you describe why you do what you do. Keep it up and maybe someday you’ll be as good as Cassie!
It should be called “hydro demand”, because it does what you want!
I’ve been waiting for this video for a while!!!! 👍🏼🤙🏼🤘🏼
Thanks for trying the FluidFilm. The smell is Lanolin oil and it reminds me of a horse barn. The smell goes away after a couple weeks but the protection lasts months.
Great job showing us how it works.
Great video need more stuff like this to watch while on break!
I did the psc xd big bore box with the ports. Made a huge difference. Ram is next
Awesome video. Been waiting patiently for a new video
100% best jeep jk channel on youtube!
Really digging the black sox and crox !!
I want to see the TJ unlimited, that will end up being the best out of all of youre jeeps
That's on his wife's channel Jeep gear and gadgets.
James Cagle it could be if it was manual but it’s got the auto...
@@ivanfromtheeast4709 It's really a personal preference though, mine's manual but I'm kinda jealous of how easily my buddies with auto crawl over things.
heyyyy nice ! not far from there myself. we’re over in south east mass.
Just got my PSC ram in two days ago. Will be
drilling and tapping my gearbox hopefully this week if time allows.
Thanks for some cheaper options for hydro assist....the pricing for a full kit (whic I don’t need) is incredible. I’m sure it’s worth every dime if you need it. I’m only turning 37’s 😉
Learned lots of good info !! Great job explaining how it drives on road , I’m currently saving up for few big upgrades ; psc hydro assist being one of em thanks to you 👍🏻
yop seem to be the man on this. At some point perhaps you could find a buddy that has a WJ that really needs hydro assist. Routing of the hydro lines in a WJ with the 4.7 V8. Lifted WJ's turning 35-37's are prime examples of DW looking for an excuse to happen on road.
Look under the Garage sale on psc website to do a kit on the cheap.
very cool. i was wondering about yours - i had a feeling it wasn't a full kit... GREAT info! i've got the PSC Big Bore XD set up i'll be doing a full install video on. haven't seen anyone else really have a video about it!
14:25
I'm sure it's somewhere in the 192 previous comments, but if not; do a 180° barrel roll on that bottle so the opening is on top and you'll almost immediately break the pressure on the bottle for smooth, even pouring with no guzzling.
One day. We will have this. Thanks for another great video.
Like the video I’m about to get the full package psc kit and I wouldn’t of thought to check the ram before installing to make sure the lines are correct, last thing I would want to do is blow something up, 👍
I love the channel. Very informative !! You guys be safe!!
Great video, I actually just picked up a PSC pump for my YJ. I ended up having my box rebuilt and tapped by blue top steering gear. I need to get a ran but I’m swapping to tons eventually. Actually going to be using your videos for my regear. Thanks for putting out these great how to videos!
The 74 GMC 6000 school bus I had was equipped with a hydro assist system and i put a 90s gm truck steering wheel on it and i could palm it parked lock to lock on pavement with 900x20s
Love the jeep! Great videos.
Great video. One of the best upgrades I have done to my JK.
Never knew this was a thing. Now I have a solution for when my wife complains about The jeeps being hard to turn.
Hi! How did this work out?!
at local hose shop they have black cloth like material tough like plastic wrap tougher then plastic and tigher and better fit on hose
Not in my price range but still informative. Keep em’ coming.
Looks like you could just buy the new end with the wiper seal and it would be good. Minor pitting should be okay. Love the channel!!
I looked into it. I think the shaft pitting had something to do with killing the seal (Rough surface plus contaminates getting into the seal surface from the pitting.
It would be around $80-100 to fix, whereas the new ram was $160.
Maybe we can rebuild this one and save it for the LJ? we will see. Thanks for watching Adam!
JK Gear and Gadgets might be worth it and adding it to the LJ!
Another great video Ben, I suggested last year for you to do an "A" Pillar Dual gauge install (oil and voltage). You said you were looking at doing that but I haven't seen a video on that yet....I'd love to see a video on that, thx
I guess your too busy to respond....thx anyway
Cool set up
Hoping to make this one of my next upgrades
Love the video, the things that went over and change was very helpful...
Fun facts about jeeps
ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO 👍 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
I got a new steering stabilizer yesterday. I'm only running 35s and it was a major difference from stock
Steering stabiliser or a hydraulic ram?
if above 35s, a hydro assist setup will be better
Great content. Don't apologize for talking. I'm finally learning some stuff I wanted to know. One question I have is: I recently watched a video where they put in new steering that has an orbital valve and a hydraulic ram but I didn't see a pitman arm or steering box. Is full hydraulic a thing?
1:52 Tell me about it! I sprayed that stuff down inside the body cavities where the cage B-pillars attach. Jesus! I couldn't drive with the windows up for over a month.
Definitely interested in going hydro on my xj. Gotta look up what it'll run me to get my box tapped. Or buy a new one.wonder if I can get into it for cheap lol.
Dude you know you stuff!
Very informative. Thanks
Great video man I love your vids you always do a wonderful job with info it nice to see how much you enjoy teaching us and giving such great info great video keep in coming love your jk
Redneck Ram has been great. I feel PSC is overkill and overpriced. Especially if you get the RNR overdrive pulley.
Facts that what I have
Explain this redneckram setup i got a jeep on 33 big 26 inch nigga rims and 1 tin tie rod stick steering gearbox cant handle turning anymore , lookn for upgrade
You are doing a great job!
I just ordered the big bore kit. Can't wait to get it installed. What turn signals are you running on the JK? They look awesome.
Great video but this is the first time noticing it’s a 6spd. Can you talk about 4 wheeling with the 6spd. Would like to hear your take on it. Thinking about get a JLU 6speed. Thank you
Have you ever seen the tie rod wanting to flop up and down due to the cylinder.
Nice video.
Cool channel.
So - the way you describe the steering onroad... sounds like driving an old Buick (ye olde land yacht).
If anyone’s ever driven an old Buick and knows what I mean and has also driven a hydro-assisted Jeep, let me know.
Great video!!! thanks so much for sharing.
questions as my off roader is also my daily driver - how does this work on road? On the highway at highway speeds? I prefer a loose steering wheel anyway, does this almost feel like a cadillac ?!
Thanks, can tell us which best hydro sys for JK, also can you show us a video of Antirock Sway bar installation- I guess the upper tie rod connected with a shift along in gearbox of steering it smees contacting with chase
I have a video of the Antirock install
great vid.
Love the videos but I’ve never heard someone complain about getting dirty so much when working on the jeep
Awesome vid Ben !!!
Fantastic vid!
Ecoboost swap 👍🏻🍻
Hey guys you two do awesome videos did you retire from UA-cam
Psc all the way!
Another great video psc big bore for $900
Nice video. Keep it up.
I have a PSC hydro assist setup on my XJ, with the HO pump and reservoir. I really like it but for the total cost I wonder if it's worth it. My turning radius is horrible with my 39's and King Pin 60. That particularly may be my fault in the setup on it, but I'm not 100% convinced. I see you have Antirock on your Jeep. I'm running no sway bars and its road manners are down right dangerous. How is the assist on the road for you?
You told her to say ram so she ran 😆
You don't talk to much. My wife does, when I'm trying to watch you tube videos!!🤭 love her tho.
My old mustang had hydraulic assist it leaked like crazy 😜
You're psychic I swear.
I’m thinking I need to do this upgrade I’ve been getting death wobble but only at 70 mph. I have dynatrack pro 60’s on a JKU 2012.
I'm very interested in this hydraulic ram stuff you are talking about and what happened in a gladiator axle swap
Just posting other stuff in between the axle videos!
I have been thinking about doing an axle swap on my gladiator
Hey I’ve been building my JK I put 1 tons under it. I have several questions about the Hydro cyst. PS C kit that I bought and how far you’re able to turn the actual axle with the gearbox
10:40 Thumbs up for that comfy foot wear. LOL! #Unapologeticallycomfortable.
I’ve got a manual Saginaw gearbox on my ‘65 Gladiator. Can I do hydro assist with my gearbox?
Great video! Is there a hemi swap coming in the future? Lol
If you put a PSC kit on your gladiator, how will it affect steering while towing?
Great video big fan watch all of your videos. I’m in the process of adding assist to a built 44 and I purchased a ram with a 8 inch stroke you mentioned there’s a way to limit internally if you could some how possibly do a video or offer info much appreciated
You will have to have an aluminum spacer machines down to slide inside the ram, and have it drilled so it can slide down the ram internally
If you don’t have access to a machine shop, or have a friend who can mill it for you, then it will be cheaper to sell that ram and get the correct length.
JK Gear and Gadgets thanks I have some aluminum tubing left from another project I’ll have to machined to spec I’m guessing it just needs to slide on to ram and be 1and a 1/4 to equal to 6.75
@@timmy16358
Hi
Same thing here . Did you ever did that aluminum spacer ? Or did you just ran 8” ?
Let me know thanks
Steering Stabiliser versus steerng cylinder?
Do you still need both?
How much flack am I gonna get for asking this. . . I have a 2013 jku with 33's and my steering box at 123k just started leaking and the sector shaft is worn out. I'm thinking of getting a new box that's ported for hydro. How do y'all think this setup will be just having the box ported and a ram without the cooler and upgraded pump. FYI the power steering pump in the JKU only has 30-40k miles on it.
Hey can only the box be installed without the hydraulics on a gladiator jt for better steering feedback given it’s so much beefier than the stock one? Would that actually be better than the original box?
I have psc full setup. Works great! My jk handles terrible on-road, tho. Lots of roll. I have 6" lift with a cheap sway bar. How does the anti-rock work? worth the $?
I have anti rocks front and rear on 5.5" of lift on a 2017 JKU. There is a lot more body roll from them. All it really took was minor adjustment in how i drive to over come this. I think they are worth the money for how much i go off-road, no discounting, just air down the tires and go.
I would also agree that the PSC system feels terrible on the road. It takes the feedback from the road out of the steering in my opinion. But it does amazing off-road with locked 1 tins & 40s
Hi amigo ,you put jk stering box xd2 psc big bore SG688R, l,want buy this part ,,,kit i s alot money ,,,cuestión works Well ,thank you..
Hey, Ben, you may have this in a prior video, but I missed it...what lift height do you have on your jk?
Hey man what flares are you running on the Jk? Love them!
Heey brother , can u tell shoot me a message on what set up u are running I really would like to run that same exact set up not a full assist, I would appreciate it broo
nice can you tell me how long are your hydraulic line thanks
All I wanna know is... why is my mount bracket welded to the toe adj sleeve by previous owner? And do I need an aftermarket bar to fix this issue?
That setup will work, you just have to adjust the ends individually for alignments
Great video as always. I just picked up a ram on eBay. How do you measure it to know how long the stroke is? Thanks!!
The measurement is how much chrome shaft is exposed.
Pretty much how far it can move in and out
what is cassies channel?

What headlights are these? And are they good bright headlights?
I'm in the market for a Jeep. I love the Rubicon but have a Willys Budget. I keep hearing the Willys is a poor man's Rubicon.. What are your thoughts? This would be my daily driver.... but I do want to get out and have fun on the trails.
Honestly, I would do a sport with the interior features you want. And then in time, upgrade suspension and add Offroad upgrades as budget allows
@@JKGearandGadgets Thank you!
Last question. With your knowledge do you see anything in the Willys configuration that is better than the Sport configuration as far as an off-road capability?
Making video's rewarding! (free stuff) I love your video's! Did I win anything :-) Watching you from the JL hood latches on the JK!
running some more giveaways in the next few videos!
What is your ram throw?
Where did you get your switch panel on the a pillar?
