  • Back to Kingly Street and 'The Bag Of Nails' or Bags as it was known by in the 60s.
I am sure most people know the history of this club so I will not go into it here.
I was told that the Pinstripe club was on the same site as The Bag Of Nails but on looking on the net it seems it used to be at number 4 where The Bag Of Nails was at number 8.
I was not around when the Pinstripe Club was there so maybe someone will be able to clear the matter up.

I don't thinl that is the Bag O Nails as it was downstairs in a basement. Lloydy on the door only let in trendy people whether male or female. I know cos I went there often. I sat in there with Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Jimi Hendrix (yuk!) etc and the music was phenomenal.

I remember it well (I think!) It wasn't licenced, so toasted cheese sarnies and coke were the order of the evening. I'm pretty sure I saw a very young Queen play there once.

I was a DJ at "The Bag"O"Nails" alongside Needles who was the "man". On my nights off I would go to the Bag after I had been to the La Valbonne, Louie Brown was the owner then, who I worked for as a DJ at another cub he had called the Defeldermous in Carlise Street of Dean Street.

Al (needles) was the best DJ in London at that time, making sure no one ever sat down for a minute..he was one in a million..

Speakeasy was in Margaret Street on the north side of Oxford st
You went through a wardrobe to enter the club if I remember right.
Not one of my favs to tell you the truth.
Took me back in time with that one.

mario was on the door at the bag o' nails in the mid to late 60's..he'd be the one who'd let us in and tell us who was there that evening..jimi, eric burdon, sadie, the lesbian who'd arrive with her harem of 4 or maybe 5 girls..i had a chat with linda in the ladies(before she met paul, who was often there and sat quietly on his own) about her amazing snakeskin boots..

Did you work there then or just frequent? Did you know Mario well? My Aunt Maureen was there, so I’m interested in it’s history. She said she had a publicity photo taken there with Mick Jagger.
