Seriously this song is just perfect - in every version she does it says something a bit different, even though everyone knows what it's about. Lyrically, melodically, atmospherically ... all of it. She just nails those queasy, surreal after-effects of a short and intense thing with someone.
I agree that she's great at bringing out different mixes of emotions! That said, the lyrics suggest a longer relationship to me, where there was time for her to pile up a lot of baggage and dependency that makes it difficult to leave even if it's toxic. I guess we can get different interpretations.
What's truly remarkable about Phoebe is she can sing the same song, but always make it seem like it's fresh, new and exciting every time. We are witnessing an amazing artist and she's only just begun to flourish.
You probably dont give a shit but does anybody know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account..? I somehow forgot the login password. I would love any help you can offer me!
It's about Ryan Adams who she kind of dated briefly. "You were in a band when I was born" makes sense now, because he's like 40 something and she's in her 20's.
@@petepete9831 No it isn't. Phoebe has stated in interviews that it is about Ryan Adams. Phoebe released her first singles on his label and they slept together on his 40th birthday apparently.
I think this is my new favorite version of this song - a few little subtle melodic changes really bring out the ideas emotionally and the buildup (especially into that last chorus wtf) is so naturally done and then the ending holy shit
I hate you for what you did And I miss you like a little kid I faked it every time, but that's alright I can hardly feel anything, I hardly feel anything at all You gave me fifteen hundred To see your hypnotherapist I only went one time, you let it slide Fell on hard times a year ago, was hoping you would let it go and you did I have emotional motion sickness Somebody roll the windows down There are no words in the English language I could scream to drown you out I'm on the outside looking through You're throwing rocks around your room And while you're bleeding on your back in the glass I'll be glad that I made it out and sorry that it all went down like it did I have emotional motion sickness Somebody roll the windows down There are no words in the English language I could scream to drown you out And why do you sing with an English accent? With that hair she looks like the elf from Bright, haha. Great music, just came across this song a few days ago and it's great to see artists like her making a way for themselves
ooh my, this is soooOOOO fukin good, love love love it!! :) I guess we can thank 'Ryan' for this masterpiece (very indirectly of course :p )... I guess sometimes great things do come from total crap! This is a great example.... ...along with 'ALL' the songs on FM Rumors Album.. :) :P :O We love you in Big Sky Country Phoebe :)
Beautiful music. And if you like it (as I do, clearly), you owe it to yourself to take a look at Lori Carson's catalogue. Two decades separate these two artists, but lovely elements connect them.
"The song, she tells me, is about the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Ryan Adams, whom she met in 2015. “A mutual friend in LA was like, ‘Ryan would like you’. He really was just trying to get me recording and trying to get Ryan to hear me, but Ryan was like, ‘Let me see a picture of her’.” Bridgers says that she and Adams “ended up hanging out all night and recording a song together called Killer. Then, a couple of weeks later, he was suddenly trying to hook up with me. I was super-down and had just broken up with my high-school boyfriend. We slept together on his 40th birthday and I’d just turned 20.” She wrote Motion Sickness after they broke up. What did he think of it? “We were back on good terms by then but after I sent him the song he didn’t talk to me for 24 hours. Then he sent me a sweet text saying ‘it’s a great song’,” she says. “Yes, interesting character…”" telegraph interview. interesting!

took the words outta my mouth! exactly.

those back up vocals from the bassist and drummer are pretty slick..
Ikr. I actually thought it was Aaron Marsh for a sec.
Anna Butterss on bass, perfect!
I love how well Marshall's voice blends with hers. Her songwriting + their harmonies melts my heart.
P.S. whoever is playing bass also has an angelic voice.
Is he still in the band?

The sky cannot contain you Phoebe. Your artistic vision is unlimited wow!!
Loving the feeling of the drums on this performance
She plays pretty closed for most of the vid. Then toward the end a ferocity and passion peek through. Great song. Amazing musos. Phoebe is a force.
i’ve played this 30+ times today i love it soo much aaahhh
Girl SAME
Sounds better than the album version imo
The crew at The Current did a fantastic job with this! Talented folks.
Especially when she belts out that last chorus. That was amazing.
This and the KEXP versions 🥺❤️
She sounds good live and they mixed the production version really cold
You probably dont give a shit but does anybody know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account..?

I love the arm movement to find the note.

What is this about? I’ve noticed Apache always do that on that verse
I love when UA-cam gives me unknown/undiscovered songs in my queue. This woman's voice is amazing!
Imagine not following for the last decade...lol
Lmfao even
Damn Phoebe. That ending. Love this performance
Marshall’s vocals on this, we love to hear it!
I remember just having this video on repeat throughout my sophomore year of high school in 2019
I LOOOVE Phoebe Bridgers!
LOVE THIS WOMAN AND THIS SONG
I always come back to this version. I love it so much 😌
i love her . used to listen to her all the time.
Same. Not so much as of late, I heard she boomed quite well in the industry.

Hal Brenner it’s about Conor oberst

sooo lovely. she just blows me away
I’m crying this is so good
My favorite version of this song.
This is honestly incredible
Some great sound mixing!
I love her!!!
Fleetwood Mac drums combined with her nice voice. Just great
She reminds me so much of Neko Case and Elliot Smith mixed with Fleetwood Mac.
Current, I love the work you guys do.. please keep it up!
I listen almost only to his music, hypnotic, majestic, love the Band💌
Love ya song, love ya sound, love ya hair.... Miss my grandma
Beautiful song
Very interesting stuff. Hope to hear more.

Great song!

I DIG!
Amazing combination! Better than the album version.
BRAVO!
No spotify? No Joox? I fall in love with your voice.

THAT EXTENDED OUTRO OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDD

I hate you for what you did
And I miss you like a little kid
I faked it every time, but that's alright
I can hardly feel anything, I hardly feel anything at all
You gave me fifteen hundred
To see your hypnotherapist
I only went one time, you let it slide
Fell on hard times a year ago, was hoping you would let it go and you did
I have emotional motion sickness
Somebody roll the windows down
There are no words in the English language
I could scream to drown you out
I'm on the outside looking through
You're throwing rocks around your room
And while you're bleeding on your back in the glass
I'll be glad that I made it out and sorry that it all went down like it did
I have emotional motion sickness
Somebody roll the windows down
There are no words in the English language
I could scream to drown you out
And why do you sing with an English accent?
I guess it's too late to change it now
You know I'm never gonna let you have it
But I will try to drown you out
You said when you met me, you were bored
You said when you met me, you were bored
And you, you were in a band when I was born
I have emotional motion sickness
I try to stay clean and live without
And I wanna know what would happen
If I surrender to the sound
Surrender to the sound
¡Guatemala!
Most live versions of songs sound like $30 cover versions, but this absolutely feels right.
Wow! Her voice reminds me a bit of Gemma Hayes. Great!
❤️❤️❤️
How does she do that thing with her eyes? Whatever it is it's working
Dig the bassist's pick work, rad axe, and... Sun Ra pin????
dude i had a session on this same day also in st. paul mn... that's so fuckin cool
Totally thought that bassist was Maggie Rogers.
sounds a lot like the intro to one headlight by the wallflowers
Good harmony from bass player.
why does this only have 100k views 😾⁉️
She is wearing a Neil Young shirt by the looks :)
and not a David Crosby shirt hahaha

Ryan can afford it!
8 Ryan Adams fans out there still
LOL just noticed Jeff tweedy son is the drummer
The silence is dange. ~Deadmau5
I wonder who this song is about.
Anyone seeing weird glitches in the video or is my GPU just dying?
She wearing Neil Young T-shirts??
As a drummer, I can’t figure why the guy here is playing the chorus the cross-handed. Why not just play the floor tom with triples on your right hand?
Just another 0.1
Victor dee
Sucks
no one cares about your opinion 'jeff'
its pretty good song but Do you still love me babe by ryan adams is far better
She can’t sing that well live. Every live performance she butchers the first line and it’s never sounded like the edited song.
Let’s hear you, then…?
She… sounds like any friend in a car. I am usually impressed. This feels bad. Like quality.
