  • Here is a demo of the very cool Triple Shot humbucker ring made by Seymour Duncan. With it installed you can get 4 distinct tones from your humbucker. All without installing push/pull pots or drilling holes in your guitar for toggle switches.
Visit my web site for more information on the Triple Shot and getting it working for you.

For this demo, and for all of my guitars that have Triple Shot rings installed, I wire the Triple Shot in reverse so that the coil splitting switch positions make sense to me. Instructions for standard wiring and reverse wiring can be found on Seymour Duncan's web site and on my web site as well.
The first guitar is an Ibanez 540S Saber from 1987
The second guitar is an Ibanez SF420 from 1996

I have had these in a few guitars for years. Here are some things I can add to help out. 1) The creme rings have black switches and it's easier to tell where you're at. The black is difficult to keep up on while playing, you might silver Sharpie or Wite-out them. 2) These are great for short wire pick-up rescue as once it is installed you have plenty of new lead wire to fit whatever axe you please. 3) If you have a pick-up with plenty of wire, there is room to wrap the "real" wire around the pickup a couple times to keep it long and just send the triple shot wire to the controls. This has not interfered with height adjustment for me. Wrap them before you solder to the board. 4) humbucker coil splits work, but individual humbucker coils are smaller than true singles and size matters. 5) different brands of pickups have different wire colors, so Google pickup wire colors and find the Duncan chart to cross reference them. 6) a small soldering heat sink clamp is handy to hold wires in place on the main pcb. The solder likes to stick to the duncan solder pads, just be precise. Once you tie to the triple shot board the control cavity wiring is uniform and simplified down to 3 wires. 7) I have never had a triple shot switch ring fail, and they have proven reliable.

They seem cheap, how has the quality stood up on these switches?

@@bluwng mine have all continued to operate with none ever failing. It seems like older switches had a better detent and clicked back and forth but newer sets are more squishy from side to side and can move during palm mutes at bridge. On my last build I just faced them towards the controls since I never really shift on the fly. Truth is I find no matter which guitar I always prefer full humbucker at bridge and it doesn't even need a switch, neck pickups I will split when bridge is on and I'll be running "3 coils" at times.

I think the riff is cool and all, but I would have liked to hear some chords so we could get the full effect.

Do Ibanez S series have enough space for a push/push or should I buy on of these?

A question, If I have two humbuckers, each with a Triple Shot ring, and with the selector switch on the guitar in the middle so they are both on,
I can set each to parallel or series (within the pickup and still in humucking mode) with the triple shot, right
Is there any difference in the resulting tone compared to setting them to parallel or series but between each other with micro switches? Or is it the same thing?
I am not an electrical engineer, just a guitar player, the thing is that I have seen videos that show mods on how to put two pickups in parallel or in series but they always say like....the two of them in series or the two of them in parallel in relation to each other .......not within the pickup.

I always thought the coil under the screws was the one that became active when the pickup is split and the screws are usually towards the bridge and towards the neck on the respective pickups. Have I been mislead all these years?

    Great demo, very well organized!
Do you have any idea on how to install this, or a similar device, on a Gibson SG with a pickguard? Originally no mounting rings.
    Thanks a lot!

Has anybody actually managed to listen to the whole video, or has that annoying riff made you lose the will to live? This video had so much potential to be useful but the sample sounds make it unwatchable.

@@ashbass5 I should apologize for the harshness of my comment. I was having a bad day and that riff was getting in the way of what I was hoping would be a great demo. The information and the way it was presented was good, but the riff didn't really show the product to its full potential. If you would like I can delete my comment.

@@ccjmusic your initial criticism actually rang as ironic comedy as I was reading it. I think this is supported by how carefree the lick actually sounds like.
