Glad you enjoy it! (Sorry for the months-late reply, I stopped getting YT notifications for some reason.) I am working on some updates for this, so stay tuned.
Unlimited copters?? I remember grinding level 1 to build a bank of 20+ copters before I even had a thought of a campaign.. that of which always died in level 9 or 10. With unlimited copters, you can fly willy-nilly w/o a care in the world. Need fuel? Nah, just kamikaze into something and respawn like it ain't no thang. The game is hard as heck, but unlimited copters breaks the game imo.
This is 100% true, and “copters are precious” as I’m sure you know is one of the game tips that scroll by. You should be able to purchase them with the H key, for 20 funds apiece. I have yet to implement that, almost a dozen years out. With the current “unlimited” setup, you have the choice of restraining yourself to three chopper losses and adjusting strategy accordingly-or not. I may add a “lives” option that enforces the 3 choppers, plus the ability to purchase them.
FYI, I've added an "unlimited lives" option in prefs which you can disable - and then you get 4 choppers as per the original Mac game, and "H" buys you more lives at 20 credits apiece. I don't have the UI for this on mobile yet, but this works on desktop. Also, playing the original game to test this out... On "Boot camp," it's easy to finish battles 1-10, but WOW, I am having a tough time just on "War Games" at Battle 8 - having my rear handily handed to me. Woof. ;)
Ah yes, it was in the original game but never mentioned directly! There were a lot of things in the game like this, from my experience. The manual encouraged players to explore and discover things as they progressed through the levels. The one hint in those bits of text that scroll by, though: “Clouds can be dangerous” - i.e., the enemy helicopter could be hiding in there. A very subtle hint!
@@scottschiller The version I have from ~1991 contains the hint "Try hiding behind clouds". But I thought the game was trolling me, never realized how powerful that tactic was.
@@maxscherzer9521 Another thing I have in the remake, I'm not sure if this was in the original (it's been a long time since I checked) - in the easier game modes, if you capture all standard bunkers, the enemy will stop ordering convoys. If you lose control of any bunker, then enemy production will resume.
Trying to get my kids to recreate this game on the PlayStation build-a-game game, “Dreams”. This was perhaps one of THE first MOBAs … I played the black n white classic on a Mac Plus!
Wonderful! Thanks for the note. I think this game was truly ahead of its time, and an under-rated / slept-on RTS-style game before they became really known with Dune ][, Populous and the like. It is also incredible how they had multi-player on Mac and DOS, and allegedly you could even play against people on both platforms. For 1990/1991, absolutely amazing. Thanks for putting this video up, this game is legendary I am about to play it for the first time since about 1992.
Fantastic; hope you enjoy! I threw this demo together for fun. In retrospect, the audio is a bit boomy / echo-heavy, I won't use that set-up again. :D
@@scottschiller yes I noticed that at first but got over it after a minute.
@@dana6677 Heh. Sorry about that!
Beautifully done - I've had this repo starred for some time and still find myself going back and playing once and a while.
Glad you enjoy it! (Sorry for the months-late reply, I stopped getting YT notifications for some reason.)

@@scottschiller updates? that would be amazing!
Thanks for bringing this great game back!!!
Thank you!
You're most welcome!
Did you play this with an emulator?
This is a web-based remake; link should be in the description.

I didn't make it clear. Copters are precious. Anytime you'd lose one was an, "Aww f**k" moment.

I never thought of banking up on the first battle, this is a good idea. 😆

Didn’t know you could hide in a cloud!

Ah yes, I think you’re right. I really like how the game had hints, but was rarely exact about certain game mechanics.

Can you choose enemy helicopter in the game?
