Here's a different method when crossing larger lakes or fjords:
1. Inflate your drybags and pack liners, with your stuff inside. Seal your inflated packliner with the ducktape from your repair kit.
2. Tie your floating backpack, which include all the previously mentioned floating devices, to your person.
3. Inflate your sleeping pad and climb aboard your new ship.
