I must say that there is one HUGE advantage to experience prop firm trading: it really enhances your discipline. It forces you to be conservative and stick to the rules, otherwise kiss your 500 bucks goodbye! You do learn the importance of consistency and not over trading.

It's completely the opposite. Prop firms breed scalpers and people that over trade without worrying about blowing their own account. You simply trade like the Wild West and if it doesn't work out you pay the reset fee. Prop firms will teach you absolutely nothing about capital preservation because as this video already explained, you don't own any in the first place. There also wouldn't be such a massive failure rate for folks using prop firms if the rules they provided had any value with actual trading.

Ok, 10% per month is quite unrealistic. I was using that as an example. All I was trying to say is that if you go for a prop challenge and pass, you will get 20 times more capital than trading with your own money.
So based on those numbers it is worth it.
But on the other side, the rules on prop challenges are very difficult. It is hard to pass a challenge and get a payout. And you may also not get paid. This is the biggest red flag of prop firms.
If it wasn't for this difficulty, paying $550 to get access to 10% of $100k is a good deal.
This is what I was trying to say.

Must say i 100% disagree with you on this one Nick. Firstly by selecting a propfirm with a high rating on trustpilot allows you to have a certain amount of trust in them regarding payouts. Secondly many of these prop firms now offer single evaluation phases meaning one challenge phase after which you are funded. Thirdly the time limit has been removed meaning that unrealistic target of 10% per month isnt required for example: Im a recently funded trader I took a single phase challenge that costed me 60$ for a 5000$ funded account it took me about 3 months to pass it meaning roughly 3.33% a month going slow and steady with some good trades. After passing I had a 4% month meaning 200$ after profit splits and fees 150$ meaning I am already in the profit from my initial 60$ investment. I feel taking these challenges should be a long term option for traders that are low on capital.

Patrick Nil has been on Robbin's cup leaderboard every year since I think 2019 or 2020 and if you calculate his avg return it’s about 10% a month. It is very hard and very unlikely you'll consistently get an average of 10% return every month but it is possible... especially if you take the account size into consideration

I’d say if you’re short on funds for your own personal account, get a funded account with a reputable firm, stay disciplined and make like $5,000-$10,000 then fund your personal account. Still keep the finder account but don’t be surprised if your payouts ever get rejected.

there is a huge misconception with propfirms that you need to make 10% in a month. it's not 10% you need to make its 100 or even more with a 100k account you have a 10K drawdown (wich is basicall all you can lose) and you need to make 10K so you basically have 10K to make 10k thats a 100% return in a month its not happening

I got into trading through a friend who showed me trading and trading with prop firms. I am now trading for the past 1 1/2 years with a propfirm. I took the smallest account they had (50$/month at the time) just to get into the trading world. To get a feeling for trading real money, I created an account at the same broker, the prop firm uses. I lost the 400$ that I had on there. Now I am trading a "50.000$" account (not funded yet) with only micro ES and micro NQ contracts. Just to get a feel for my strategy. I know, that this way, the evaluation will take some time, but I can build the foundation. And even when I am funded in the future and the prop form does not pay out, at least at that point I know, that I am cosistant profitable and could do the same with my own money.

It's difficult to trade. Even more difficult to pass a challenge and even more difficult to reach payouts. But with all this said... using a prop firm can make you a better trader. I started in a simulator for 6 months straight. I studied and looked at the market for 10-12hrs per day. The last two months I was profitable and had both a good P/L and success rate. Then I joined and did a small challenge, risking only $100. I passed it on the first try by managing risk, calculating my position sizing, making sure I didn't blow my account and building a cushion. Today I have two accounts. One prop and one private. I feel confident in trading, thanks to learning how to be very very careful, thanks to the rules from prop firm trading. When I trade my private account I have the same rules and it's assuring me that I will not blow my own money. Trading is risky... but I would rather risk a small amount of money learning trading by following rules, then risking a larger sum on the market on my own. At least in the beginning.

  • @XDosShane

I definitely still think props are worth it. Being able to trade without the time limit now puts the patient and diciplined trader at an advantage, so getting through the various stages from the challenge to the payout doesn't neccessarily have to happen quickly. Provided you are trading with a prop firm that has a solid reputation, the main goal should be to pass and withdraw your initial investment. Anything after that is risk-free and you have the account for as long as you're able to maintain it at no extra cost.

  • @FXTrader247

I agree with you on the most part. I spent nearly a year trying to complete a challenge account (which i passed and then blew) only buying the small accounts for like 50 bucks. I do believe it helped me in the long run because it made me realise how difficult trading is and i learned so much.
So my advice to new traders would be to try the lowest account size if you want. But dont expect to pass and use it for more of an experience to trading

Heck, just making 4% a month makes you a top elite trader. If you can make 50% a year, then that puts you up there at professional level. Hedge funds would be salivating at your skills 😂 Renaissance Technologies averages 60%, if I remember correctly.
New traders do NOT understand how much 50% a year is. If you compound that every year, you'll become VERY wealthy very quickly over the span of a few years. This also proves that your strategy doesn't even have to be this crazy, complicated thing. Let's take trendlines and candlestick patterns on the daily chart for example. That should be enough, as long as your risk-to-reward is dynamic according to market conditions.
These new people who claim that 10% a month is possible simply didn't multiply that number by 12 to find that that is utterly unrealistic return. 120%? From some bro trading from home? Get outta here... 😂 They aren't taking this industry and themselves seriously.

So if you know the formula/arbitrage you eliminate your risk and get yourself for 550$ a capital of 10k(10% of 100k) that you can trade/play/gamble/yolo whatever suits you. That is the only way you should treat these propfirms. The companies are not here to help you get to bigger capital, they prey on the weak who dream for a better financial life. Just a fact from last year statistic( from the biggest prop firm) : out of 5000 challenges bought 4 people/traders got to actually receive a payout, so that is 99.92% of traders lost their money...just food for thoughts.

The reason why 10% per month is "impossible" is due to risk of ruin. It's a lot better to blow a prop account, then blow an account with your own money. You can take risks you wouldn't take with your own capital. You can scale prop accounts with copy trading. This is an oversimplification. There is also the psychological aspect. Trading with a $550 account just sucks. With such small amounts, your risk of ruin isn't even a big thing to worry about anyways.

For every trader like me who dont have money theres trading academy on Top tier which gives you an opportunities to understand trading better and once you complete your course they will give you free 5k account, so if you are serious about slow reasonable progress you have nothing to loose
Have 5k free account and push until something . Prop firms gives us opportunity to scale up and benefit as long you have the right one by your side. My opinion "if a prop firm is willing to give a free challenge for you to test your abilities that means it is prop firm for people and it is there to push us for success". I am not promoting anything i an just presenting the opportunity that other prop firms have like free competition to win accounts . Obviously we will have rotten potatoes here and there. Give it a short you will never know
1% of 5000 account it is way better than 1% of 50 dollars
To trade with personal account requires money so choose what it is best for you

Trading a prop firm is almost the same as trying to flip an account with high risk.Take a look at this you are actually given a daily drawdown limit and it's the daily drawdown that makes 90% of traders who failed to fail. So in reality you actually have only 4% of your prop firm capital to trade with. If you have a 5k account you only have 200$ to trade with and if you even risk 1% of the 5k you'll blow your challenge in just 4 losses for the day and 0.5% will take you out in 8 trades so that's mentally draining especially to scalpers. So why not just risk 25% of your personal account if you think 1% in a prop firm challenge is "risk management"

At minimum I’ll give em credit for promoting low and slow growth. ( speaking of monthly percentages ) Thats good advise across the board.
But 10-20 even 30-50 is possible with proof lol
      Especially with leverage.
Those bigger 100% and greater, tend to be one offs and on occasion after many fails kind of things.
Oh we got that manual and passive….hands down! Not just me either…. Our community too.

Sorry but apart from the unrealistic 10% a month projected return the guy has a valid point. Before the No-time limit rule you would be correct that trying to pass a challenge within a month or so is not guaranteed but Prop firms became worth it when they scrapped the Time limit rule.

Hii Nick big fan of you, Since covid watcing your channel and guest comes to your channel are awsome. Trading prop firm is best in my point of view reason lets take example of Nick this year you have made consistent profit XYZ percentage I am assuming 10% for this year for your capital size it was great return. what about those who have less capital skill like Nick can they take this opportunity because they are profitable they have capital problem not skill. you should see this as one extra opportunity to invest your money to earn more money. If you see only negative side today you are not profitable trade because in market we have positive and negative side profit and loss not only profit. Love from India

Hey Nick, this was a nice video.
Can you please give some insight about what you think is a decent percentage profit per month? Reading the comments I understand that making 5% a month in average makes you already a very skilled trader, specially trading for a prop firm. What are your thoughts on this?
Its important to have realistic expectations, specially when you are a newbie.

1-2% per month avg gains would be phenomenal to achieve for any trader. Most traders never come close to becoming consistently profitable at all, and average negative returns per month. If you become very very good, with many years of experience, 2-5%!

they are worth it if you ACTUALLY have an edge. but most people don't so it's just a way to slowly drain their bank accounts for them. unlucky I guess
(this is of course all assuming you're using an actual trusted prop firm, but why would you not???? like legit is using some 1 month old shit firm worth the 20% discount over something like FTMO?)

    • @kenz-c2j

Most prop firm traders keep buying accounts on new prop firms which keep promoting huge discounts and suddenly having a problem with them.
That's why it is better to stay with old prop firms because they are truly genuine companies like Audacity Capital, FTMO, and 5ers.

Anyone watching this please listen to Nick. I've spent over 20k on prop firms. I'm massively in debt thinking it'll work. Before I started prop trading I had money to risk on a personal and I decided to risk a bit extra to make more money on a personal. That's why I went more on props but if I had a choice over props and personal. I'd of stuck with personal capital. I've lost alot and it's my biggest regret throughout now. It's caused alot of stress and I'd do anything to get that money back that I originally had. Hope that made sense. Great video Nick, thank you 😊

Imagine a prop firm that had no rules, only guidelines, no loss of the access to trade. They let you trade anyway you want, and give a weekly report and a score. Obviously, when traders see the score, they will realize they own the responsibility of the trading. It won't be long before they blow the account or show themselves worthy of an account of larger size and live trading.

A 5th issue with prop firms and this argument is that while you might do 10% on a live account the prop firm will typically keep 10-20% of the profits made. So the 10% above 100K payout which normally would be 10K becomes 8K.
