A magnificent video, MBE, as usual. This Band is really excellent and the music played too! A very good job I much enjoyed, thank you very much for filming and sharing. Have a nice evening!
Absolutely Spiffing as always MBE!! I was missing the sounds of a brass Band! Such a unique and uplifting sound in my opinion! Most enjoyable, hopefully they do some guard mounts soon! Did love all the static pieces. 'I want to break free' and 'Happy' were exceptionally good! Well done to all the Musicians on parade and those receiving the medals! Lovely to see Cpt. Peter Brydon once again!
Thank you as always Delvin! Yes, they had some great statics and played very well, great contrast in the pieces! You are right, it was good to see Captain Brydon again conducting for the first time since he left the IG Band and started in his new role over the summer!
@MilitaryBandsEverywhere You're most welcome Sir! As always you bring us something special and most enjoyable! Wonderful work throughout this year! Thanks again!
Thanks MBE for another enjoyable and informative video. With my own particular background, I always find it interesting to see and hear British Army bands in "brass band" rather than "wind band" format. For those that don't know, brass bands don't have the "woodwind" instruments (including saxophones) that are found in a wind band, but have, instead, extra types of brass instruments (where the sound is produced by the player's lips), such as soprano cornet, flugel horn, tenor horn and baritone. Congratulations to those eligible for the medal.
I thought something was off. I wish I could find the current manual or regulation. Every drum major seems to do whatever pleases them. It would be great to know who's following the correct way.
@@donaldyeung9658 I have a very old copy of the Drummers handbook (1980,s) that set out how things should be done at all times, including a standard practice when a massed band was led by more than one DM. Of course, when left to their own devices Drum Majors would use "handed down" movements that were peculiar to certain regiments. I remember noticing that the Royal Artillery DM had some unique mace signals and in the REME even more so. Having said that I think what we are seeing now is some individual style coming in because they can get away with it or no one bothers about it.
I was a military band drum major for over 15 yrs. the “standing orders” to which you refer are used when there is more than one drum major on parade so that their drill is harmonised . When a drum major is on his or her own the drill may well indeed follow regimental or band traditions . After all his sole job is to signal to the musicians behind him the commands needed to perform their role. I’m sure he would have discussed with the band members beforehand what signals they would like and what would work best .
Great to see a military band marching out of the South Arch. Pity it’s not the Royal Artillery Alanbrooke Band which played there at our passing out parade in October 1986. Although the Gunners have moved out to Larkhill, Woolwich will always be the spiritual home of the Royal Artillery to those of us who trained there. UBIQUE 🇬🇧
Yes, it’s still an unusual sight to not see them and of course BAB Tidworth is technically the RA Band as that’s one of the three bands that merged to become BAB Tidworth so can you argue it is in fact the Royal Artillery Band? I’ll leave that up to you! 🤷🏻♂️
Tks for info. My bro was with 19th 68-73 and was a piper.....when I contacted for info was told there never was a band! I'm still trying to get info and a decent photo to put towards his eulogy as he passed. Wd apprec if someone could give me this info. Gt respect to all our Military folks.
Hello! I'd have to agree, I do miss seeing and hearing the Royal Artillery Band! Still slightly upset it lost it's identity. I wish that when they amalgamated these regional bands that they kept their predecessors uniforms, and used them according to the regiment they were supporting. For example for Royal Artillery events they would wear the RA Uniforms. But, one can't have everything I guess! Not that I dislike these Regional bands I think they're wonderful. Although they were supposedly going to get Home service style helmets, which never happened.
Yes, agreed, technically this band has the lineage, but the RA Band had such historical importance, it just seemed sad that a stroke of the administrator 's pen did for it.
They are actually playing ‘An American Trilogy’ which was made famous by Elvis; which just so happens to have references to the American tune ‘Dixie’ in it. It may be worth reading this article, which explains how controversy around ‘Dixie’ first started in the 1960’s but then was reimagined in this song by country music artist Mickey Newbury. savingcountrymusic.com/the-banning-of-dixie-the-birth-of-an-american-trilogy/ Either way, this arrangement of Elvis Presley’s iconic song, is a favourite amongst many brass bands!!
The band does indeed play beautifully. You may be interested in this article which explains the relationship between ‘Dixie’ and ‘An American Trilogy’ and how it’s almost a reimagining of the song. savingcountrymusic.com/the-banning-of-dixie-the-birth-of-an-american-trilogy/ Either way, this arrangement of Elvis Presley’s iconic song, is a favourite amongst many brass bands!!
@kennethhannah4221 Whilst I agree on the careful use of commas to make the grammar correct and the meaning absolutely clear, when uploading to UA-cam there is a character-limit on titles which is relatively low - I've often been caught out by it myself and had to shorten my titles, sacrificing clarity and correctness, to fit within it! Sometimes one has to be pragmatic.

Thank you Alba!! I’m pleased you enjoyed. Yes really nice music on this video 👌

CPT Brydon is making an appearance? *faints* My second crush behind SDM Chambers

@charlottecunningham2141 Yes! He's directing the Band! Hopefully you fainted on something soft, like a sofa! Haha! Hope you're keeping well Charlotte!
@@delvinrodriguez3341I was on my sofa yes😂hope you are keeping well too😊
Another excellent video - thank you. Great sound and a fantastic choice of music 🤞🥁
Good job all. Tks to the reserves, your presence is greatly needed and respected. Band also did a wonderfull job.
Indeed, a great parade!
Perfeita apresentação, bravissimo.

That Drum Major certainly has his own interpretation of the standing orders and regulations for drilling with the mace.

Thanks for posting - great video, but really can't get used to it not being the Royal Artillery Band that marches through the archway - criminal!!!!

Yes, agreed, technically this band has the lineage, but the RA Band had such historical importance, it just seemed sad that a stroke of the administrator 's pen did for it.
Were they playing DIXIE??? That song is banned in the U.S.!!! Someone should have checked with the thought Police on that one.

They play beautifully. They might want to take 'Dixie' out of the American trilogy.

No. Leave it in.
@Scipionic1941 it's considered offensive
@ By many, no doubt. But many more are perfectly content with it.
Title grammar....thought there was a medal for serving in Tidworth...😔...the odd comer would help 😁.

Terrible mace drill!
Need to be more disciplined and fit
