  • I get asked about brazing a lot and thought I'd do a quick how-to on brazing basics for anyone starting out. I hope this helps in some way.
    This is a full custom YJ (Tamiya body) that I've built using all the tips and tricks from this video.
    You can check out my Instagram for more pics of the finished build.

    Great work Ross. Very detailed and informative. I think it’s amazing to see how what seems like such a tiny simple join is so strong.

    Thank you!! Very nicely done video! I would definitely like to see the other stages involved in building cages etc. Thats how I came upon this video I looking to build some RC items so I'm trying to learn this process.

    Great video mate, I'm seriously looking into making my own tube work. Was thinking of gasless MIG but after seeing this maybe braze is the go.

    • @rossnaumov
      @rossnaumov  2 роки тому +1

      Hey mate. Gasless MIG I can't say I'm a fan of but it'll definitely do the jog. I like brazing because it's super easy and looks scale. The joins can look super nice vs migging, gas or gasless. If it's designed correctly 3/16 steel tube is really strong. All my rigs are tube and I give most of them hell.

    Great work. I use solid rod but very much like to see how you bend right corners in tube. It would be awesome to see a detailed video on this. Is your tube brake line or specific tube stock? Cheers and great video.

    New to the project , but a video of equipment needed , some things are obvious but it would be a good video , or is there one already ? I'm going to give a VEKTA5 cage a try , and I will be really watching your information closely , I've never done this so I've got the learning curve first of course , thanx much !

    Hi. Great video and project. I’m just starting out. Limited budget. Could you be more specific with the adding and heating of the flux and specifically which flux. I am using trade flame silver braising flux on copper. I find the flux bubbles and burns. Then nothing will stick with bunning silver solder. . Any advice please! Thanks. Pete.

    Just wondering, would it be better if rather than letting it air cool you dipped your frame or freshly brazed area in cold water for a fast cool down?

    Great video,
    Iv been planning on building a 1/6 Willys Roll cage, just never have tried Brazing
    Is the Flux a must when brazing?

    • @rossnaumov
      @rossnaumov  3 роки тому +1

      Definitely a must yes. You can get flux coasted rods too. I prefer to use it manually as I find the flux coated rods too thick for such intricate work .

    Great video - thanks. Why do you do brazing rather than TIG in this situation?

    • @rossnaumov
      @rossnaumov  2 роки тому

      TIG welding is a completely different ball game. They all have pros and cons. I actually TIG weld outside of RC projects on 1/1 cars. I prefer brazing as it's cleaner and a lot simpler. I use 3/16 mild steel tube whereas a TIG cage generally uses solid rod.

    What type of metal are the rods?
    I have aluminium ones & aluminium braising rods & they don't run tidy, normally a i burn & melt the aluminium & rods wont melt. Do i need a specific type of flux

    My father was a welder in the military for 23 years and of course after the military he did a lot of artwork so I gotta have some of that talent not trying to be conceited but I’m pretty handy I’ve been practicing and practicing I was able to get a hold of some good brazing rod with a really high silver content,……. I know this is kind of a idiotic question what is long has the rod or the lines that you’re freezing or clean don’t have to put flux on those right just the brazing rod??? I’m gonna keep going with that the only problem with my brazing rod is it’s pretty thick I want to say it’s 1.5 maybe two mil
