You could buy a bamboo at almost any corner store for 50 cents when I was a boy. Fond memories indeed. An apple juice can, a can of libby's beans, a can of vienna sausages if you were lucky topped off with molasses bread was what a trip in the country was all about. Thanks for sharing.

Didn't you just love it when you got your hook and line caught up in the top of a juniper or spruce tree,,, and that was the only line you had with you! You're fishing trip turned into a tree climbing expedition! Oh the memories, many baskets of trout with my dad in the late 60's until mudder ordered the two rod/reel with tackle boxes combination out of the back page of a comic book for fathers day! So ended the days of the bamboo pole for me! I still have one of the indestructible solid fiberglass rods and both tackle boxes that came with the kit, that's around 50 years ago

You brought back alot of fond memories of troutin in New Perlican ponds....Beaver Pond and Murphy's Pond and others.....and I don't believe you didn't get a "snag in the trees" on the backward motion!! The best part for me was when you took the rubber boots off and yer socks and pants are soakin wet!! LOL. Another excellent video and I'm homesick again.

Thanks buddy. This really takes me back. We used to buy these bamboo poles at the convince stores and gas stations for around $1.50. Expensive for us kids but much better than alders. Keep the vids going please.

what a wonderful video. I'm form the northeast coast and we did pretty much the same... It didn't matter if I went down the country with my father cutting fire wood or spending the day trout fishing there was always a mug up. And molasses bread had to be involved and if we brought can food it was likely to be vienna sausage and or beans. All of us yougsters had an old bamboo pole, they were great for trout and Kunners off the wharf. I subscribed.

I am so glad that I lucked into your videos. They are great. Often you bring back memories of my childhood. In this case I used an alder limb instead of a bamboo pole, but the same concept. Keep the videos coming. Take care and stay safe.

That was outstanding. I remember graduating from a bamboo pole when my grandfather gave me his old flyrod. I used the reel-less flyrod as a bamboo pole for a yr, and the next year he gave me his old reel. I think I was around 8 yrs old.

Great episode. Sadly I've been fishing for over 40 yrs, so I can relate. Good ole Canadian Chili dogs. Mmmm
I got a hold of a bamboo fly rod. It was a pretty expensive one when it was new. Brass fittings that locked with a half turn, hexagon shaped pole, about 8-9ft. It was at least 40 yrs old at the time, and this was about 25 yrs ago. I soaked it, to rehydrate it, cut off all the wraps and redid them (at least), new eyelets etc.. Took it up north fishing and after about 5 casts, I broke in half. It was rotten around one of the fittings. Man was I bummed. It was great practice for the rods I built afterwards though.
Anyway, the old stuff still works. I think even though you can't reach as far as with new gear, we're much more in tune with what the lure is doing. Much of the fishing gear is marketing.

I used Sucret tins also, and we put ferns in our creel to keep the fish fresh in Vermont where I grew up.

When deer hunting in Vermont, we took an apple, a peanut butter jelly sandwich, fig newtons, Vienna sausages, a candy bar, and a thermos with coffee or milk, and hunted from dawn to dusk.
