I watched the Ann Harvey Coast Guard tie up to the government warf in Corner Brook, where I worked, many times. Now thanks to you, I know exactly who the name refers to. There is so much history in this beautiful province. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Thanks for sharing your day. 👍👍👍
That was quite a story. Thank you Ann Harvey. My relatives, the Norris 's saved many people when a sailboat carrying 100's of passengers were rescued off the caost of Prospect Bay, just outside Halifax in the late 1800's . They were fishermen too. The World needs more people like Ann and the Norris 's ❤❤
Thank you for the history lesson. I knew an Albert Harvey and family while growing up in Ingonish in northern Cape Breton. Albert was originally from Isle of Mort. I was told his dad was a hero who had rescued many people from a shipwreck. Albert was sent to Ingonish as a boy after his dad was drowned and the family was split up. Albert was a fine man. He served in the Canadian army and landed on Juno beach on D day. His fine wife Susie and son Clyde were lovely people that I am proud to have known. Albert worked at Parks Canada in Ingonish and fished lobster with his son Clyde. Sadly they have all passed. I had the privilege of fishing with Albert and Clyde for 2 years back in the 80s. They are forever in my heart. I truly relate to all of your videos. Keep living the dream of life in Newfoundland. Take care and have fun.
What a wonderful story about a brave young woman! Planning to research her family's story more! Thank you for sharing your part of the world with us! It's beautiful!
Thanks for the history lesson. Enjoyed the video. Your story telling is getting better with every video. You can tell you take pride in your piece of earth you call home.
Awesome history lesson. I actually learned something from this video. I can say that I was part of her construction being a machinist at Halifax Shipyards when she was being built back in 1987. I can say that I was part of the crew of machinist that bored out the stern tubes for the main shafts for the propellors as well as the posts for the rudder installation. Also did other parts as well. Nice to know that I was part of history. Keep on with your story telling. I truly enjoy learning about a part of Canada that I have only stayed and visited just a few times in my 63 years of life. Always wanted to visit Ilse au Morts but never got there. The day I was headed there, (my girlfriend at the time) had to rush her father to the hospital in Corner Brook with a heart issue. We never got a chance to reschedule that trip. Maybe will get to do it sometime soon now that my wife and I are now retired. If I ever get up that way, I will try to look you up and go for a coffee, or in your case a cup of tea.....lol
Hi Bob , I love the cabin , hunting , the wilderness . I found Anne’s story to be truly the best part of being a Canadian . Thankyou Sir , much more please , a hearty hello from Alberta .
There should be a movie made based on this young ladies story. Very interesting history. I bet there’s many more historical stories on the coast of Newfoundland. Thanks for sharing this Bob.
Lived in Blanc-Sablon for three years a long time ago. Have crossed to NFL often. I have often dreamed of retiring there. It’s still as beautiful as I remember it. I’m glad I found your channel….it keeps my dream alive and I hope to visit again next summer.
This was absolutely amazing to watch and so educational to say the least..... I only discovered you a few months back and started watching your videos and let me tell you they are amazing and I wouldn't miss watching to save my life.... the way you tell a story is so captivating... keep up the amazing videos my friend.... im hooked 😊
Thank you once again for a excellent video. Loved the history lesson, now wondering why we didn't hear these tales in school. Looking forward to the next one.
Great story, if there are more you’d like to share please do. I’m presently on the OBX/NC Cape Hatteras and there are plenty of sea rescue stories but the ruggedness of your shoreline made your story fascinating. Well done, friend.
Enjoyed your video. It is always nice to learn the local history. It was interesting to learn about the damage of Fiona too. I just got back from PEI and the folks on the Island said they couldn't sleep during the night of Fiona. Their houses were shaking all night long so they dared not sleep.
Very excellent and informative video. I was in Isle aux Morts this past summer , first time in over 40 years and today I drove the water front in St.John's and saw the Ann Harvey so the timing of your video being there for me tonight was great.
Awesome video! Beautiful scenery on the islands. i'm a bit ashamed being a Newfoundlander I didn't know that story. Great history lesson and told exquisitely. Thanks!
The only Utuber I know to actually reply to every comment made!!! I love your trout fishing adventures, rabbit snaring etc and that was a couple of my favourite things growing up in Nova Scotia. My grandparents lived and died rowing out to sea for a few cod, haddock, etc, beautiful old times. Please keep your videos coming
So enjoy your videos and your history stories. Every one of your videos is so diversified and shows a little bit of this and a little bit of that which I think is great. Surprised you don’t have a lot lot more of subscribers with your content. You are very knowledgeable in many things you show and I have learned a lot. Thanks.
@@thenewfoundlandoutsider6354 any good mushroom spots out by your cabin? Curious if you get any pine/chanterelles etc! Maybe an idea for a new episode lol
I remember going down to these Islands when i was very young and having a Sunday dinner, not up the Sand cove all the time, i remember the headstones because my grandmother would tell me not to go to close to them, that was a long long time ago thank you for a wonderful story and a fun memory for me thanks for sharing.
Really great to hear the story and history of your area Bob. Your videos are great and you enjoying the cook ups is great to watch. All the best and look forward to the next one.
What a story that was. Nice looking lunch, too. Always enjoy your videos, but telling history is very cool and interesting. Thanks. From Northern Ontario.
Once again Bob you have managed to intrigue, educated and entertain, Bravo. The Ann Harvey docks in the harbour of carmanville where I live quite often. Its nice to hear the story of her name sake.

Great story. It’s too bad she died young. That’s one brave woman. It was very interesting. I’ve been googling it and reading all I can about it. Thanks
It was so different back then. 50 was today's 80. She lived 49 years, which would be 89 in today's years. Their physical bodies were worn out by 40, just by the strenuous work everyday.

There is a grave marker for a George Dicks in the boughs at 2;16 of your video. It is hard to read put I believe it says he drowned in Codroy in 1874. I spent a lot of time around them islands. Spent many cold winter mornings on Tinker Island duck hunting. Great video.
Great story, but how come so much credit to the kid, and not so much as a mention of the dads name? Pretty sure he played the major role in the rescue.
