      The arrow might be full of air so it floats up when it hits the water. I bet if u filled the arrow with water or something non floaty it would work better

    You should build a one-man pallet wood fishing shack/cabin next to the pond. Those videos would be great especially in the winter.

      that would be good! could also use the small cabin as an ice-fishing hut :) winter trout...

      The spear you are using has caught A lot of fish over the years. It is slow tho compared to the more modern ones. Watch the following video and you'll see. Pay special attention to how far up the spear he holds and how fast that spear is. My favorite 3 prong is a cawabunga a hybrid around 9 feet. About 125 us dollars.ua-cam.com/video/q2haLo-R78E/v-deo.html

    So helpful! I clocked this to learn about using a slingbow, and instead, watched you play with a spear! So cool! Glad you titled this video right, otherwise people wouldn't be able to find what they're looking for!

    Full stop. I love watching all your videos. Pond, cabin, living off the land, off grid, off grid, you do a lot. From alone times to family time. With friends. You have an amazing life I am glad to be part of your life. I am sure you do so much more not filmed. Keep up doing what you do and all that you can. Your videos brighten my day. My Dad taught us to spear fish with a frog spear. Some people call them (gig spears). They come in 4 and 5 prongs, he preferred it because the prongs were closer together and prevented misses like you had! Plus they were stiffer made it nice with a large pike.

    Hey dude , 1st of all you are amazing , really love the Pond vids! 2nd I am from Bulgaria , and in my village we have a pond too, it's not necessary to dig the pond deep , just put a tube maybe 2 meters over the pond , and make sure fresh water is pumping from it into the pond , it's important to be over the lake not in it , cuz it makes more air when the water falls into the lake, and a current , which the fish love and enjoy ! The trouts love fast moving , cold water. I hope I helped with this comment , and I am sorry if I made any mistakes, my English is not that good 😁

    • @TheWoodedBeardsman
      @TheWoodedBeardsman  5 років тому +1

      Your English is really good! We don't have a flowing water source...just want's flowing underground, so it does change over, just slower.

    • @ЙорданШкалов
      @ЙорданШкалов 5 років тому

      @@TheWoodedBeardsman Thanks for the reply man ❤! Well if you make some flow , the water won't get that hot . Also forgot to tell you about changing their food, from pellets to natural baits, put some more small fish into the pond that can reproduce fast , the trouts will love them and their caviar , it will be cheaper for you ,they will grow fast aaand it will make them more active 🐟! About what you said , for something eating the fish , you can try installing an electric shepherd , it's not that expensive and not dangerous for humans or bigger animals ! Good luck , I am waiting for the next video impatiently 🧔😆

    just found your channel, loving it. Ive been going through these pond videos, kinda out of order. But you could introduce lots of freshwater shrimp, they will keep the water clean of debris and algae and stuff, plus if you have any casualties theyll break it down quick. The shrimp would also be good food for the fish. You could also research native clams and introduce them to help be filter feeders and keep the pond clean. Then lots of freshwater plants too because those will maintain the nutrient cycles and cool the water during th summer a bit if you get a nice mass of floating plants....those characteristics also help prevent algae and provide habitat for shrimp to live and reproduce and for fish fry to grow, and even for the amphibians that will show up.

    Re: suggestions on a spear. Get three long-shanked large fish hooks. Straighten them out then wire them to the tip of your spear. Solder the wire-wrapped hooks and then spread the hooks to resemble the trident spear you have. The fish you are after are not heavy enough to offer up enough resistance to a thinker, blunt spear tip. The ultra sharp fish hooks will pierce your trout and the barb's will do the rest. Also, re-sharpening is a breeze.

    A few tips I have seen using a pole spear. Add some hockey tape for grip near the end of the stretched band so your hand won’t slip and two twist the pole spear as you stretch the band it will help stabilize the spear and not let it bend as much. Hope this help better luck the next time.
