Played hockey for 13 years. Was a hockey ref for 7 years. Hockey players truly are cut from a different cloth. The trash talk is on a whole different level. The old joke was "Soccer players pretend they're hurt. Hockey players pretend they aren't."
The sport is borderline medieval and pugilistic, like American football or rugby, but perhaps when you add in ice, high speeds and a puck that reaches faster speeds than a pro baseball pitch, that has rigid edges and is fired almost point blank at you. Soon you realize your pads are merely there as a joke, especially in professional hockey.
@@squirrelz6117The pads in hockey merely create the illusion that your safe until you come to the hard realization that you aren’t when you leg is broken by a 90+ mph heater from the point. Hockey is still a very fun sport to play, you just have to accept that getting hurt while playing is sometimes part of the experience.
I spent 24 hours in Toronto as part of a baseball tour back in Sept. '94. The city was very clean AND the people most polite. Love to visit there again.
There is a funny show called Letterkenny that features trash talking hockey players. There is a spinoff show called Shorsey. Yes the crowd can hear it.
I'm from Canada and i find it so funny when people from other countries react to hockey I freaking love it...lmao yup that's us just another day in Canada hahaha oh lord
2:00 In the Swiss National League, teams can only dress a maximum of 6 NON-Swiss players per game. So that's why the guy was yelling: "You wouldn't even have a job if you weren't Swiss!"
Born and raised Canadian here. When we grow up, we are taught to skate. So if you can't skate - think about the level of fitness, strategizing and superior skating skills these guys have. When you see it live, it's amazing!
when you see all the writing(ads) on the helmets and uniforms, you know it's a European team. That's why the Canadian playing there is so pissed about the diving.
My fav chirp I have in my inventory was for the refs when they were being trash and calling games inconsistently. It was “Hey ref can I get a penalty for thinking? Ref - no. Me - good cause I think you f***ing suck” the refs really loved that one cause half the time they’d get even more pissed and the other times they’d just start laughing.
The name on the jersey wasn't Rampage, it was Ramage ... Rob Ramage, a defenceman who played 15 seasons in the NHL for the Colorado Rockies, St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs, Minnesota North Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens and Philadelphia Flyers.
First 😂 Hockey players are a different breed and I should know I'm from Toronto and when the boys were young they took their street fights to the Hockey rink cause everyone I knew played Hockey and they would get even with each other. The Code❤ The chipping is great. Love it. Great reaction as usual my friends and Peace out ✌️ 🙏 ☮️
Welcome to Canada's national sport. It's a very competitive, emotional and passionate sport, and It's all part of the game....lol. If the competing players meet up in the pub afterwards, they'll probably buy each other a round...lol.
You have to remember that 85% of hockey players are Canadian!!! I'm 52 and I broke so many collar bones of other teams. Trash talking is key all game long!!!
I liked this video. A good deal of the trash talk is actually rather light hearted, but lots of it is really intense too. But lots of cursing regardless. 🤣
The fun part about growing up in this sport and being in enough fights. It was always hand shaking at the end. You were always the bad guy if you did not be respectful after a fight or game. Hockey is one of the last sports where no matter what happens you are expected to be respectful before and after. You dress professional and act it.
One of the best chirps I have heard of was Brad Marchand saying to another player that if that players son wanted an autograph from a real player Marchand would give him one after the game.
A funny movie to watch for the hockey culture would be "SlapShot" it's set up as a minor league hockey team trying to survive and get back to Old Time Hockey rules...lots of fights and trash talking
At the beginning they guy saying what are you going to do? He Wilson is hilarious, because Wilson is known for being one of the top fighters in the league
My favorite one not on this video…, Sean Thorton of the Boston Bruins is on a mic saying “Wanna go? You wanna go? I’ll let you pick the hand that I beat the shit out of you with…“
You guys should for sure watch NHL Playing Through Pain, Electrifying Playoff Goals, The Highlights of the 2010 Hockey Olympic Gold Medal Game, Previous Cup Champs winning the Cup, and should watch some individual player highlights of Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, The Hughes Brothers Quinn, Jack and Luke, Connor Bedard, and Auston Matthews and if you want to this years first overall Macklin Celebrini! Should also watch some highlights to where other sports get involved in NHL plays, and should watch some highlights of previous IIHF World Juniors! That's all for now lol
Guys going at each about 30 miles an hour. Hard hitting and the padding doesn't always work. Lots of players take the Puck or a stick to the face = no teeth. Love my hockey.
Canadians are always seen as super nice. Hockey is a small insight as to how Canada acts during a war…Fun fact, a decent amount of things written in the Geneva conventions that you can’t do was because Canada DID all of those things in WW1 🤣
“In North America, diving is not a thing”. For most sports this is true but in NBA basketball, diving has become just as prominent as in European or South American football. Lebron James has lead the charge to make diving normal.
Diving is repulsive & is seen as "rat" behavior. Canada Soccer just played Argentina & 1 of the Argentinean players became a meme up here in Canada for rolling around like he'd been hit with a land mine after he was barely touched. Diving is why soccer isn't bigger in Canada IMOP.
Played at all different levels in Canada for 35 years, every league has this type of chatting. I said things to other players that I`d def be embarrassed to repeat anywhere else. Lots of death threats, questioning of sexual orientation, ugly, lack of skill, and body-shaming comments. Most of it is ignored and greatest number of fights are in response to a `dirty` play against you or a teammate.
many of those clips were not NHL players just a bunch of big mouth lower league wannabees who never drop the gloves and walk the walk. real goons talk with their fists.
The trash talk today is significantly toned down. They'll get fined or a suspension if it's too politically incorrect. Hell, we said sh!t on the ice as 10 year olds that players would never say today. Calling someone a f@g or calling him a queer would always start a fight. Speaking of fights, you should do a video of hockey fights, the best ones are Johnathan vs Bouchard and Probert vs Coxe.

How could you get hurt with all that padding 😂
@chopsquotes9326 they shoot the puck so hard they can break a guys leg through the pads.

Can you imagine meeting some of these guys on a battlefield. You never get no sleep they be up all night trash talking the enemy.

You should do the most exciting NHL playoff goals of all time
The ref's rarely get hit. That is why they stay back and let the punches fly. Once they slow down or someone falls, then they can safely step in.
In hockey taking a dive is a penalty.
To hear gold standard Canadian hockey chirping check out a show called Shoresy. 😂
that wasn't Rampage. It was Rob Ramage.
There's nothing scarier than a Canadian on ice, I don't care if they're figure skating 😂

Canadians are 42 percent of the NHL actually. Still the largest percentage but no where near 85 percent

DUDE! CANADIAN SPORT! CANADIAN!

The most foul-mouthed footballer would pale in comparison to a hockey player.
4:09 There's Doug carpenter back when he was Head Coach of the N.J. Devils.

Hockey is mostly played by Canadians. It’s not just Americans. We also call it soccer too just to let you know 👍

People forget that Hockey is technically a combat sport. And hockey can be deadly. So that’s another reason for the fighting. To police each other.

You can hear the trash talking, it's mic'd up at ice level.
In the Swiss league you have to have a certain number of Swiss players. So basically if they didn't have that rule he wouldn't be playing.

There definitely is diving in Basketball.
