No, it's actually Terry Weeks, as a guest vocalist, who sings the first verse. Theo doesn't sing lead on this track. Compare the voice in the first verse to the lead voice on the Temps' songs, "Take Me in Your Arms" or "I'm Here" (also led by Terry). You'll hear that it's the same voice.
