You’re correct. The iPhone 3GS had storage size printed on the back in 2009/early 2010, until it was sold alongside iPhone 4 in mid-2010 when only the 8GB model was available for purchase - that’s when the storage size was removed.

2 years ago, the house we own has tenants that had rented the place. They we’re moving and they literally threw out a brand new box with 10 of those AppleCare Replacement boxes. The guy who was there, used to be a Apple Authorised technician, so these boxes were unused, even having the guide on how to pack the iPhone for the customer, and ways to provide the customer with the best experience. I later gave 5 of them to a few friends who also had interests in Apple Boxes, and sold 2 of them, one for £40, as it was dented on the bottom, and one for £100. As it had everything inside, and packing guide. Anyways interesting video 👍

I replaced the battery on one of these and it is super easy, I think it's ok to do it, you need just a suction cup and a screwdriver so the phone won't scratch. I think it is a better choice replacing it than trying to manipulate with some cables and still when you somehow activate the phone it still won't work as intended. I think the storage symbol is not on the back, because it is a newer model that came out with the 4 and the 4 doesn't have it.
I replaced my 6 Plus battery...no problems at all with that. My iPhone 2007 4GB, I think it would be just as easy...maybe even easier. I have to try this out someday. My 13 Pro Max, my battery is NOTHING like it used to be sadly...terrible battery drain now. Since Health is not showing 80% or below (It's 84%), Apple wont do this for me. -- smh!

Yeah you need a external voltage regulator, or a power usb hub. The reason why it won’t turn on without the brink is because the laptops will only provide 5V 1A, but the brick can go up to 7W of power. So if you manage to put a little bit more power on it while connected to a computer it will work
My older cousin had this back in 2009 and then at the same time I asked my dad to buy me an iPhone like her's. He came home from a deployment abroad and got me an iPhone 3GS with a lot of fake apps that doesn't do nothing, and especially removable back, dual-sim, and microSD card support. He bought me a knockoff one since I was just a child :'(
The 2009 models had the 16 and 32gb labels on the back but in 2010 when the iPhone 4 came out they released an 8gb option as a cheaper alternative and it didn’t have the label to match the aesthetic of the iPhone 4 which didn’t have them.
Maybe try a power bank since they output less power, maybe you can get some juice into it and then plug it into the macbook and it should have enough charge 😊
This makes me nostalgic of when I worked at an apple store in 2014; being able to swap phones on the spot really was something else, just drawers and drawers of phones and replacement ipods

I have a 3gs 32GB that's absolutely immaculate, it was from a joblot and had a faulty backlight. Still running ios 3.0.1 so a pretty rare find. When you search up the imei it says its been replaced with an apple care replacement, which is pretty cool. (The device I have is the original not the replacement)
Looks like the Apple Care Replacement iPhone needs a replacement of it’s own…the battery. I hope you can try to get the battery fixed maybe if you even will try to do that.
Try getting it to recovery or DFU mode. It can do that with a super flat battery, and I’ve revived a few iPhone 2G/3G/3GS batteries with this method. It doesn’t always work, but it’s worth a try.
Have you heard of the UA-cam channel DankPods he does a lot of apple and iPod stuff and one thing that I learned was that the old cable for one of the old iPods needed a USB & FireWire cable. That's what you need for that iPhone. FireWire to charge it and USB to sync it.

Try a 30 pin to FireWire + usb cable. Connect FireWire to charger and usb to computer. U could also try just a FireWire cable but I think the iPhone didn’t have ability to transfer data over FireWire.
Thats what Apple will do one day is just have very small amount of paperwork and SIM tool and that's it and just the phone inside as again Apple will say everyone has a charging cable and as it's shifiting to USB C this year with iPhone 15 series so there wouldn't be a need to provide one

you could take the cable apart, connect the power connectors to your power brick and the other cable in your pc for the itunes part, should work
U could cut the cable and connect the 2 power cables to another cut usb comming out of a wall charger and connect the other data cables to another cut usb coming out of the laptop
you might be able to connect it to itunes if you use a firewire cable to charge it first. the battery may hold a charge long enough for you to connect it to your computer
use a mac with firewire and usb then get a split cable with firewire and usb, it will have enough power from fire wire to boot up and the usb will handel data
I guess there is no storage size marked on the back in order to use the same replacement back every iphone 3g/3gs no matter the size
Try tapping i on the slide to unlock screen, I’m sure there won’t be an IMEI number
The reason why is doesnt accept to charge the phone due to the phone being too old try a older mac like a 2006 macbook
