I am forever upset that those kids were murdered from someone they trusted and the police not taking the social workers call seriously!! So frustrating
Same here
You wanna know what’s sad? So I love a few houses down from where he murdered them and we have a fire station at the entrance of our neighborhood... it’s so close
@Ban Me Nots, I Want You To Remember but wouldn't it be wiser to take all of them seriously? better safe than sorry
I would blame it on the 911 operator. I’m not sure how it works but I would think that the 911 operator had to tell the cops “oh just take your time it’s nothing extremely important” or something like that.
@Ban Me Nots, I Want You To Remember I can attest after having to speak to west valley police before for a wide range of issues you have to be extremely specific and really make it out as a serious situation even if you’re not sure so they take it seriously.
the father in law is literally the creepiest man Ive ever seen vom
My moms friend was neighbors with them when they still lived near there. She said that she would catch him (the father in law) looking at the women in the neighborhood through their windows. So creepy
Iam thinking with Steve keep saying that Susan is attracted to him too,we all no that's bollocks, but what if that's why Josh killed her, god, the whole thing,is horrible, poor kids,Susan..😧😢.Josh an Steve 💩💨💨😈👿👁️👀👀👀👊🐍🐍
That video with him talking about rubbing her feet....wow...that was so incredibly creepy. Creepy isn't the right word for it. It actually made me a little sick to my stomach
Omg Queen Gina
Did you ever hear his song he sang about her? I feee you haven’t believe it or not you haven’t heard the creepiest thing ever.
I'm so pissed that none of the family ever reported josh's suicidal texts, could've saved the kids.
"Anyone who knows me, knows I'm a good dad" bro you starved your kids 😒
exactly. and legit killed himself with his kids. fucking egoistic and condencending. didnt let anyone live just to save his own ass. awful person josh is
Im literally cringing everytime Susan's father in law talks about her. He is making me uncomfortable myself😬🤢

It bothers me how careful we have to be when choosing a partner. Even then, so many cases are about spouses snapping out of nowhere and there was no way to see it coming. Sometimes when the relationship is abusive, like this one, you can kinda see how it could go so wrong, but I don't think most people expect murder to happen.
Yeah I feel like one of the most dangerous things you can do as a woman is start dating a man 🤔
As I was watching this I thought: living with a man is like having a loaded gun in your house.
Not sure if you have seen these around the internet, but many women, myself included, have created "If I Go Missing" Folders. People include details about their social media accounts, recent head shots, medical/dental records, banking information, identifying scars/tattoos/birthmarks, contacts etc. It is sad I even must say this, but people list off potential suspects that could be involved as well. It is devastating that this is what the world has come to, but it is a precaution I recommend we should all take.
@@liviyahorbatuik6186 i’ve made a list like this and i’m so careful about letting my friends & family know where i am at all times. i’ve regularly thought about how i need to react if i’m ever attacked again, and it feels like i’m reliving trauma over and over.
i hate that people have to do so much just to protect themselves on a daily basis. even without factoring in having a partner!
Wow😞
that "wait a minute, you can't supervise yourself" sounds like something straight out of some stupid mock comedy film, I admire how calm the supervisor tried to remain
Yes it's completely obnoxious but I do understand why he said it now that I've listen clearly to it it's because right before that he asks her who's exercising the visit meaning who is having the visit with the children she says I am I think she just misunderstood the question because her mind was racing and she was panicked and that freaking idiot operator did not bother to just move on past it
I mean I can understand why as a 911 operator you would want to clarify hey but you're not supposed to supervise your own self if you're having a supervised visit but at the same time he should have grasped quickly that she made a mistake because she already explained to him that the dad was having the visit so he should have caught on that she just misspoke and move past it to get those children help
Josh's dad was a really cruel influence to him. He really learned how to be cruel from his own dad. It's disgusting.
Like father like son.
Hearing Susan's voice made me really sad, because she sounded like somebody who I would have loved to have as a friend 💖 And she is gone, totally needlessly.
these kids were getting murdered and the operator wants to play 20 questions
Because the operator had no idea what he was supposed to do..he tried to win time by asking the same questions fifteen times.
Right? He was a fukwit
Little glass of Rose. I hope that, that call operator was fired. What a complete incompetent dick!.
I was honestly freaking out listening to that conversation. I doubt it would have made a difference, the house was set to blow up, but my God, what the hell. I truly hope that he was fired!

The dispatcher sounded desensitized on the phone. He was so disconnected emotionally and intellectually, I hope he found a career since this incident that he is passionate about...
he accused her of being a witch, she liked making her own tea.... I know that this is an incredibly tragic case, and Steve is an absolute monster, but damn that line made me laugh
It’s so sad that the grandparents out lived their child and grandchildren. Can’t imagine the pain they went through all because so many people were negligent and willfully ignorant.

I remember listening to this 911 call a while back and I hope that dispatcher was fired forever. He was unhelpful and just.... Dumb. Not to mention rude and condescending. Like, how could you not classify that as a life-threatening situation????????????? And there are children involved..........
He seriously was so confused about the simplest thing ever. He just wanted to be a dick and talk down to this poor woman trying to help these children. Idk how he lives with that

Cases like these remind me that when I do start dating to LISTEN TO MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS
The little boy's drawing of them in the truck with the mother in the trunk could've very well indicated she was in the trunk as they drove 2 hours to the camping site where they roasted smores.. being the late time of the night the boys were likely tired and perhaps had fallen asleep and gave Josh the opportunity to dispose of the body before driving back home with the boys.. I wonder if the truck was ever tested for DNA??
In the end of the video it is actually Josh's brother Michael whose car might been used to move the body further. Based on that he left it to be taken to parts on the junk yard on the day when Susan disappeared.
I met Susan. She was so cheerful and fun. She mentioned how bad things were getting at home. It was chilling when I heard that she was missing.
Hearing these 911 calls on these cases you do and I'm like...how can you hire people this incompetent? I was listening to a podcast the other day and they played a 911 call clip and this operator was being so rude and dismissive to the caller it was really sick.
That call....omg somebody should charge that freaking emergency operator!!!! I'm so frustrated
The dad is such a creep and for him to be so delusional to say that she came on to him
Like the look in his face was so disgusting ugh wth
I have listened to others talk about this case and that 911 call pisses me off every single time😬😡
They would trade every dollar to see their grandchildren and daughter again.. I hope the lawsuit caused some change in the system in some way..
I'm Mormon and was married to a man like this for thirty years. I made it out alive.
And your name is Susan too
I've seen this story somewhere else. However you have a unique point of view. Thank you. I now have a better grasp on this case.
Not only should have that 911 guy have lost his job but he should have criminal charges pressed against him. That was horrific! The man is more than dangerous!
you’ve got me so obsessed with fun earrings. i just bought some popsicles and watering cans! i can’t wait to wear them in the warmer months
Biggest early red flag is all the photos of him gripping her neck, it’s such a controlling gesture compared to arm around the shoulder, back or waist!
I watched a special on this several years ago. My heart aches for those little boys and Susan. Just imagining the fear they all suffered at the hands of their dad/husband.
If there is anyone interested in this case, there is a podcast called "COLD". There are tons of interviews with the lead detective, tons of audio clips of both Josh and his father, taken from their video journals. Its a really, really good podcast and I highly recommend it.
All the men in this family are so shady. I think they were all in on it in some way, whether they helped Josh after he killed Susan or covered for him afterwards. Those videos of his dad makes my skin crawl.
I also cannot fathom why Josh would hack at his children's faces before setting the house alight - what horrible horrible men. It's so sad that these boys and thier mother were taken this way. Horrific.
There’s a whole multitude of things in this case that are frustrating but that 9-1-1 call had to be the most frustrating part! Omg
its so heartbreaking that they still have not found her..
😭
I can't even imagine the amount of horror and frustration that social worker must have felt after ending this infuriating phone call and seeing that house blow up before her eyes. Definitely one of the saddest cases I've heard in a while.
This is my family…distant but family for sure. Let’s talk about how upsetting this 911 call was 🤬 IT WAS LIFE THREATENING
She looked so beautiful at the wedding... this poor woman
One thing I noticed during the husband's interview was he said 'I was a good husband', in the past tense. When people talk in the past tense as though the person is in the past and at that time there was no evidence of her being dead.... just alarm bells, every time!
Nobody
Josh: “people who know me...”
I don't believe in ghosts or after-life but I feel so sad thinking about Susan and her seeing what is happening to her children and how literally everyone (besides the grandparents) failed them.
The cases Bella covers: making me feel more and more unsatisfied and disappointed in humans with every episode
I think this is the case that has affected me most. It’s so upsetting in so many ways. Truly evil people out there. So sad.
26:19 the father in law literally talked about her in past tense during the interview. It seemed like he suddenly caught himself, started fumbling with the words and then starting talking present tense. I would immediately be suspicious and think he knew she wasn’t alive if I heard him talk like that.
i audibly gasped when u said the boys died and that they never found susanne's body- that's genuinely so heartbreaking
OKAY THRONE OF GLASS IS JUST INCREDIBLE I LOVE IT IM LOSING MY MIND YOU HAVE TO KEEP READING IT
That 911 dispatcher should also be charged. If he wasn’t acting stupid in the phone someone might have gotten there in time to negotiate with him . I doubt it but it could have. If not charged then absolutely FIRED from his position. That is disgusting 🤢
Absolutely love the direction you’re taking your channel in. I appreciate all the effort and research you do for these videos. Happy new year Bella x
Highly recommend listening to the Cold podcast about this case. It goes into great detail about everything. It was the first podcast I ever listened to and it was so good that I listened to it all in one day.
Is it on Spotify?
I definitely think he poisoned her. It was said by the friend who visited her right before she went missing that josh had made Susan pancakes. Which was weird because he would never do that for before. So I think the whole poisoning theory is definitely plausible.
Yeah and I think after she died from the poisoning he took her and the kids and put her dead body in the trunk and drove them somewhere to dispose of her body, that’s why one of the kids said “mom’s in the trunk”
And his brother helped dispose of her body that’s why he took his car to the junkyard and eventually committed suicide
He also probably killed the kids because they witnessed him murder their mom and he didn’t want them to say anything
@@aniyahporter7177 100% agree

What happened to the damn dispatcher….he should be locked up and fired

i hope this 911 operator guy thinks about this every day and the fact that he said it was a “non life threatening” emergency
The 911 operator is incompetent an he made me mad he should be charged as well

10:54 it's called (ty-thing) it's basically that you give a certain amount of your income to the church. Sometimes people will just give money to the church as tithing separately. I remember putting $10 in an envelope and giving it to my bishop when I was little.
Whenever you put audio of the creepy dad talking all I could repeat in my head is “ew I hate him, I hate him, I hate him”
Every time I view this case I scream "Susan!" "Why didn't you leave, run earlier?!??" The Powell men are complete freaks!
This is the first true crime case video that I’ve watched that made me tear up, such a heartbreaking case
Same I actually really like true crime and this is only the second one I’ve ever cried about
This case is so heartbreaking and disgusting at the same time. When I saw the videos of Steven talking about Susan it made my skin crawl.
This has to be one of the most infuriating cases I've heard. Literally not a single piece of evidence pointed to the innocence of Josh or to anyone else being responsible for it. It very much feels like police knew it was him and just let this man walk free....and because of that two innocent children also died it just makes me so angry
Ok...I have to know, my mother is exactly the same. She can't have quiet around her, actually finds it unsettling, especially if she is home alone. She walks into a room she immediately turns on a radio, TV, or something playing on her cellphone. So, I'm curious: do you think all your studying of true crime leaves you unsettled, at least on an unconscious level, so that being in silence is unsettling to you? (My mother loves true or fiction crime shows, too).
Hearing the responder pissed me right off! I hope he got fired
I’m so EFFING MADDDD listening to that 911 phone call !! What the hell was that. Wow
That video she did seems depressing you can tell she hasn't cracked a smile in a long while
When you explained the 911 call, I got really upset. But then when I heard it, I realized what he meant. He thought she was one of the parents.
The operator clearly thinks the supervisor is the mom of the kids, since she says she’s making the visit. You can’t be the supervisor for your own kids. It clearly doesn’t add up. Seems like the operator thinks he just caught her in a lie and she’s just having a normal divorced couple fight and is trying to lie to escalate it and get Josh in trouble.
The operator definitely could’ve handled this call better, but I feel like I get what he was thinking.
the way you pronounced puyallup correctly pleased my washingtonian ears thank you

Yes, he was worried about the wrong things and should have been fired.... smh
I'm dying to know if he faced any kind of disciplinary action.
He was reprimanded, with a letter. Ouch, must have really sucked to be him and get that letter, after waiting 8mins to actually dispatch the police and another 13mins for them to arrive due to him applying the non emergency rating. Poor guy. The letter included the administration agreeing with him that there were many things out of his control and that he should just 'do better'. Oh, and they said, this whole situation should have a corrective nature and not a punitive nature. So, overall... he barely got a smack on the wrist, was provided excuses as to why he sucked so bad, and wasn't punished in any way, just corrected. We'll never know whether the children could have been saved if the operator had acted like a human being and understood the urgency. Although, them arriving only 13mins later for a non emergency call means, they were pretty damned close. But then he did only dispatch the police, not the fireman. So, even if the police had arrived, they would have had to wait for the firetrucks.
@@Angel-vv9xo ok mr. perfect, also she was doing a bad job at explaining the situation, she trembled a lot while on the call which might lead him to believe this is a bit strange and not a real emergency, unfortunately it ended in tragedy for the poor kids and now he is being pointed by you the perfect human being to be " guilty ", " bad at his job " and the such you are just a trash letter on the youtube world if you are so good just apply for the position who knows how many lives could be saved everyday with such a smart person like you on the other side of the phone! I thought the exact same thing. Almost like she knew that he would do something horrible to her. So heartbreaking.
Yes, she knew. Nobody writes a letter like she did if they are not suspecting it. But she did not believe it actually happening, because else she would have escaped with the boys. Only, he would have got the custody...so she just stayed as it was easier and it is very hard to believe that the husband that you loved and married would actually kill you.
@@SatumainenOlento she writes in the letter that her husband won't divorce her and Warned her that if she tries to leave, he will ruin her. In the process he will ruin himself too, but Susan would not be able to live with her kids.
I think she was too scared to leave and just wrote that letter and made the video to atleast document her fear. Wished she could have escaped, fled to another country with her kids or something. But then maybe she was also worried her husband would trouble her family and keep looking for her. Who knows !

I watched another video about this case. That person reported that this dispatcher went through extensive training and took full responsibility for what he did wrong and now is a dispatch trainer and plays that God awful video for the new dispatchers to teach them exactly what NOT to do. It is extremely hard to listen to. He will have to live with that for the rest of his life.
@@Jhoomers Right!? It was like he was messing with her or something 🤷♀️ He was so confused about the whole supervisor thing which didn’t even matter at that point. So odd.
He was retained and seemed to feel horrible about it, but I still get so angry. When I saw this title, my first thought should have been sadness for Susan and the boys or rage at the majority of the Powell family. But my first reaction was anger at the dispatcher.
Maybe it's because those are the people we turn to. The courts shouldn't have allowed visits, lots of things went wrong but that call is so powerful and frightening. Every call should be treated respectfully and seriously. I hate bad dispatchers. They pop up occasionally in true crime but fortunately the vast majority are properly trained and do care.

To me, this is the most disturbing case I've ever heard, and I've watched alot of true crime. It just haunts me 😢
Seriously she was giving hints to people about her husband and no one really stepped in like i believe she wanted
I know. That really breaks my heart. If I had a friend who didn't have food for her kids and had to ask for it, I couldn't call myself her friend unless I tried to help get her out of that situation. And like the letter of if anything happens to me it was my husband who did it, like who just accepts that letter? Like if your concerned enough to be writing that something's wrong and I want to punch whoever received that letter in the face for not helping her. And I wish they had some kind of foundation in her name my heart aches at the thought that her life was stolen and her children's lives were stolen, I'd really like to see some kind of program in place that supports woman in similar situations and there have been many truce crime instances where they have done that very thing. Or else for example there wouldn't be an Amber alert.
Indeed, all murdering cases are disturbing but murdering your own kids is another level of sickness and cruelty, you can check the case of the family Watts, is revolting and heartbreaking.. there's a documentary about it on Netflix.
